44:1 Իսկ Դաւիթ՝ եղբաւրորդի Գագկայ, զոր վերագոյն յիշեցաք, սակաւ ինչ ամբարձեալ անհնազանդութեան մասամբ առ հաւրեղբայր իւր Գագիկ:

44:1 David, the nephew (by brother) of Gagik, whom we mentioned above, having become proud, decided to leave his uncle (by father) Gagik:

44:2 Ընդ որ ցասուցեալ Գագկայ արքայի՝ գնաց զաւրաւք ի Տաշիր եւ շրջան առեալ ընդ Շամշուլտէ եւ ընդ Վրաց դաշտ՝ քանդեալ աւերեաց զամենայն, զի յամեաց ի նմա եռամսեայ աւուրբք ի ձմեռնային ժամանակին, ի [ՆԾ] թուականին, եւ ընդ Գագ բերդ անցանելով՝ ել նա ի գաւառն Աղստեւ:

44:2 King Gagik, irritated by this, at the head of his army attacked Tashir, Shamshvilde, and the Iberian plain, ruining and destroying everything (in its path). He stayed there for three winter months in [450=1001] and, having passed through the Gag fortress, went to the district of Aghstew:

44:3 Եւ Դաւիթ, թէեւ միանգամ եւ երկիցս պատերազմել կամեցաւ, եւ ոչ կարաց առնել ինչ յաղագս սակաւ լինելոյ զաւրաց նորա առ բազմութեամբ զաւրացն Գագկայ. այլ միջնորդութեամբ հայրապետին Տեառն Սարգսի եկն ի հնազանդութիւն Գագկայ արքայի, եւ հանդիպեցաւ նմա յաւանն Շիրակայ:

44:3 Although David tried to fight twice, however, due to the small number of troops, he did not manage to do anything against Gagik’s large detachment. Then, through the petition of the patriarch, lord Sargis, he expressed his obedience to King Gagik, whom he met in Shirakavan:

44:4 Եւ ուխտ խաղաղութեան հաստատեալ Տեառն Սարգսի՝ կալ ի հնազանդութեան Դաւթի, իբրեւ որդի առ հայր, եւ Գագկայ՝ հայրենի խնամով սիրել զնա:

44:4 Bishop Sargis approved a peace treaty, as a result of which David had to live in obedience in relation to Gagik as a son to his father, and Gagik had to love, take care of him like a father:
