9:0 The Council of Nicaea; Concerning Arius; and the Retirement of Saint Grigor:

9:1 Զայսու ժամանակաւ յայտնեալ լինէր Արիոս Աղեքսանդրացի, որ դաւաճանեալ ի դիւէ անտի՝ ոչ գոլ ասէր զՈրդի ի բնութենէ Հօր եւ ոչ հաւասար նմա, եւ ոչ յառաջ քան զյաւիտեանս ի Հօրէ ծնեալ, այլ՝ արարած եւ յետ ժամանակի գոյացեալ:

9:1 At about this time there appeared Arius of Alexandria who was deceived by the demon and maintained that the Son was not consubstantial with the Father, not equal with Him and not born of Him before infinity, but rather created and begotten after time:

9:2 Վասն այսորիկ իսկ ապա ժողով եպիսկոպոսաց լինի ի հրամանէ Կոստանդիանոսի ի Նիկիայ Բիւթանացւոց, ընդ որս եւ մերն Արիստակէս կոչեցաւ:

9:2 For this reason a council of bishops met in Nicaea of Bithynia at the order of Constantine and among those who were summoned was also our own Aristakes:

9:3 եւ անդ հարք [ՅԺԸ] ըստ Հոգւոյն Սրբոյ տուչութեան ի քակտել զաղանդն Արիոսի՝ նզովեալ մերժեն զնա ի հաղորդութենէ եկեղեցւոյ: Իսկ նորա զարժանի ամբարշտութեան կրեալ հատուցումն եւ խառն ընդ գարշելիսն ի վայր զփորոտին վայթեալ՝ սատակէր:

9:3 There three hundred and eighteen church fathers through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit anathematized and rejected Arius from communion with the church in order to destroy his sect. The penalty that he paid was worthy of his impiety, since he died (as a result of) his bowels gushing out with his excrement:

9:4 Իսկ ապա մերն Արիստակէս դարձեալ անտի՝ գայր բերելով ընդ իւր զարժան ընկալն քսանական կանոնեալ զգլուխս ի Ժողովոյն, ընդ որ յաւէտ խրախ լեալ Սրբոյն Գրիգորի՝ յաւելոյր այլ եւս գլուխս ի նոյն ի զգուշութիւն վիճակելոց իւրոց:

9:4 Then our Aristakes returned from there bringing with him the twenty chapters of the canons of Nicaea which were worthy of acceptance. Greatly rejoicing at this, Saint Grigor added other chapters for the protection of the flock that was allotted to him:

9:5 Բայց յորմէ հետէ եկն սուրբն Արիստակէս ի Ժողովոյն Նիկիոյ՝ այլ ոչ եւս յաւել երեւել Սուրբն Գրիգորիոս մինչեւ ցվախճան իւր. այլ երթայր բնակէր լռելեայն ի Մանէ այրս՝ ըստ գրեցելումն, թէ ի նաւահանգիստ փութայ նաւ խռովեալ, եւ անձն ժուժկալ խնդրէ զանապատ:

9:5 Subsequent to the return of the blessed Aristakes from the Council of Nicaea, Saint Grigor no longer appeared until his death; he quietly retired to the Mane caves in accordance with what is written, namely that a chaste person seeks solitude as a ship in trouble hastens to her haven:

9:6 Իսկ ապա լուսաւորութեանս մերոյ նահապետի սրբոյն Գրիգորի եւ առաքելական աթոռոյն նախաշաւիղ ճանապարհի՝ յսկզբանց անտի կալոյ յաթոռ հայրապետութեան մինչեւ ցայն վայր, յորում ոչ եւս յաւել ումեք երեւիլ՝ ունին ամք երեսուն:

9:6 The period from the time when the blessed Grigor, the author of our enlightenment and the precursor of (those who sat on) the apostolic throne, ascended the patriarchal throne to the time when he no longer appeared to anyone is thirty years:
