23:0 Եւ տիրէ փոխանակ նորա Վլիթ ամ մի եւ կէս:

23:0 Hisham was succeeded by al-Walid (Vlit’) (al-Walid) [II, 743-744] who ruled for (one and a half) years:

23:1 Եւ նա էր այր պնդակազմ ուժով զօրութեան եւ վարէր ըմբշական մենամարտութեամբ, եւ ուր ուրեք լսէր զարութիւն զօրութեան ուժոյ՝ առաքէր եւ առ ինքն տանէր, զի փորձ անձին իւրոյ գտցէ: Վարէր ընդ նմին արբշռութեամբ անարգել գիճութեամբ իգախազութեան:

23:1 He was a powerfully built strongman who enjoyed single-combat wrestling. Whenever he heard about some (other) combatant, he had him fetched so that he might test his own prowess. Furthermore, he occupied himself with drunkenness and unbridled, lecherous sex:

23:2 Իսկ համատոհմ նախարարացն տեսեալ զգործ իշխանին իւրեանց, զի վարէր անպիտան զազրալից պղծութեամբք՝ հարցին ցհաւատարիմս հաւատոյն իւրեանց որ անուանին ի նոցունց կուռայք, եթէ որպէս խորհիցեն վասն նորա:

23:2 When the lords of his clan observed the deeds of their prince who was steeped in such senseless and loathsome obscenity, they consulted reliable (wise men) of their faith, whom they styled kura, asking what they thought of him:

23:3 Իսկ նոքա պատասխանի տուեալ նոցա ասեն. «որովհետեւ անարգեաց զպատիւ իշխանութեանս մերոյ, եւ էանց ըստ հրաման օրինադրին մերոյ, եւ վարեցաւ զազրալից պղծութեամբ՝ արժանի է մահու, մեռցի՛:

23:3 They responded: “Because he has insulted the honor of our caliphate and deviated from the precepts of our law-giver (Muhammad) and deports himself with disgraceful behavior, he is worthy of death and should be killed:

23:4 Իսկ նոքա ըստ հրամանին զոր ընկալան ի կուռայիցն՝ մտեալ յարքունական ապարանս՝ գտին զնա թմբրեալ գինեզեղխութեամբ եւ սպանին զնա սրով. եւ փոխանակ նորա կացուցին զՍուլէյման ոմն ի նոյն ազգէ յարքունեան տոհմէ:

23:4 So (the clan members), accepting the command of the kura, entered the royal palace, found (al-Walid) in a drunken stupor, and slew him with a sword. In his stead they elevated (to the caliphate) a certain Sulaiman from the same branch of the royal clan:
