 1:0 Opening speech. - Enthronement of Ashot Bagaratuni:

1:1 Զմիշտ եւ զանսպառ խաղացմունս ի մեզ աստուածայնոց շնորհաց ի գերագոյն էութենէ գերալիր լրութեամբ ծայրածաւալ ծագողութեամբ, ի դարս դարուց եւ ի ժամանակս ժամանակաց քան զբնաւ իմաստս իմաստնոց գերազանցեալ, եւ անհասական ի հասութենէ մտաց մնացեալ:

 1:1 The everlasting and inexhaustible outpouring of divine grace on us from the highest Being for many centuries and times surpassed (all) understanding of the sages and now remains incomprehensible to the (human) mind:

1:2 որ ոչ միայն բանիւ ընդ իմանալի բանականսն պատուեաց զմեզ, այլ ի կերպ անկերպութեան իւրոյ, իշխանական կերպիւն զմերս զարդարեաց տեսակ՝ անդուլ խորհրդով խոկալ հասանել հանդերձելոցն անճառ ճառիցն գիտութեան եւ բերել զյիշատակ հանդերձելոցն ճշմարտապատում պատմագրութեանցն:

 1:2 It (the highest Being) honored us not only with reason, (decorating) us among rational (beings), but also adorned our appearance with its ugly image with his divine image (so that we) with our tireless thought (could) reach (on the one hand) to the understanding of the future, and (on the other) in the right story to convey the memory of the past events:

1:3 Երեքկին լուսով Երրորդութեանն պայծառացեալ՝ զերից ժամանակաց անստուեր եւ անմոլար ճառեսցուք զճառս, զանցեալսն եւ զներկայս եւ զապառնիսն. զի մի՛ ի յանցեալսն՝ սուտանուն փիլիսոփայիցն ստապատում բանիցն հետեւեսցուք՝ ինքնակայ զաշխարհս ասել եւ առանց նախախնամութեան եւ ինքեամբ բերիլ ամենայնի:

 1:3 In the triple light of the Trinity, we will unswervingly and unmistakably tell the tale of three times: past, present, and future; for (in this light) in the past, we will not follow the false stories of impostor philosophers who say that the world exists by itself without Providence and that it produces everything by itself:

1:4 եւ մի՛ ի ներկայումս սուտ հաւատոյ հերձուածողացն հանդիպեսցուք եւ ի բարեաց գործոց արտաքս անկցուք. եւ մի՛ մոլորեսցուք ի մոլար բանս հեթանոսաց, որք զյարութեան յոյս հատանեն յանձանց եւ արդար դատաստանին Քրիստոսի ոչ հաւատան:

 1:4 in the present, we will not encounter the false faith of heretics and therefore we will not go astray (from the path) of good deeds, we will not go astray at the false words of the pagans, who take away the hope of the resurrection from themselves:

1:5 Այլ մեր զճրագ պատուիրանաց Տեառն եւ զլոյս գիտութեան առաջի աչաց ունելով՝ իմանամք զամենայն եղեալքս յոչէէ էացեալ յԷէն Աստուծոյ եւ նորին նախախնամութեամբ խնամեալք. եւ գովելի գտեալ նախահարքն եւ արդարք ի դարս դարս պատուեցան յԱստուծոյ՝ յիշատակաւ գրոց փառաւորեալք. իսկ ստերիւրեալքն ի կամացն Աստուծոյ ցասումն աստուածասաստ ընկալան, եւ վատ անուն յիշատակի մինչեւ ցայժմ պատմի:

 1:5 no, having before our eyes the light of the commandments of the Lord and the light of science, we learn that everything that exists came from nothing through the existent God, that it is guarded by His Providence, that the patriarchs and the righteous (men) for their meritorious (their life) were awarded (mercy) from God , (as a result) their memory, (surrounded) by glory, (remains) in books; while those who deviated from the will of God received the wrath of God, and to this day there is a bad rumor about them:

1:6 Եւ նոյն լուսով գիտութեան ի ներկայումս ճանաչեմք զՃանապարհն ճշմարտութեան, որ է նոյն ինքն Քրիստոս, որով առ Հայր ուղեւորիմք՝ ի բաց կալով ի հեթանոսական անհաւատութեանցն՝ ի բազմախաբ հերձուածողացն մոլորութենէ:

 1:6 With the help of the same light of knowledge in the present, we come to know the Way of truth, that is, Christ Himself; (The path), leading us to the Father and moving us away from pagan unbelief and from the many-seductive delusions of heretics:

1:7 Եւ նոյն լուսով հանդերձեալ յուսոյն զլինելոցն սրատես ակամբ առաջի աչաց տեսանեմք, զզաւր նորոգման արարածոց:

 1:7 With the help of the light of hope for the future, we see (as it were) before our eyes the day of the renewal of (all) creations:

1:8 Այս է խորհուրդ քրիստոնէիցն, որով զանցեալսն պատմագրեմք եւ զհանդերձեալսն մարգարէանամք ըստ շնորհատուողին Աստուծոյ:

 1:8 This is the mystery by which we Christians depict the past and foretell the future with the help of the grace of God, the giver of gifts:
