39:0 Յաղագս Գումանդ Շապհոյ` որ առաքեցաւ ի թագաւորէն Պարսից տալ պատերազմ ընդ Հայս, եւ սատակեցաւ ի Մանուէլէ զօրօք իւրովք հանդերձ:

39:0 Regarding Gumand Shapuh, who was sent by the Iranian king to war against Armenia, and how he perished with his troops, defeated by Manuel:

39:1 Ապա թագաւորն Պարսից արձակեաց ի վերայ Հայոց զԳումանդ Շապուհ քառասուն եւ ութ հազարաւ, գալ առնուլ աւերել զերկիրն. եւ եկին հասին նոքա մինչեւ ի սահմանսն Հայոց` որ յատրպայական կուսէն էր:

39:1 Then the Iranian king dispatched Gumand Shapuh with [48000] troops to go to Armenia, take, and ruin the country. They came to the border of Armenia which is on the Atrpayakan side:

39:2 Ապա իբրեւ զայն լսէր զօրավարն Հայոց Մանուէլ, եւ գումարէր զզօրսն իւր ըստ բռշոպ ժամանակին որչափ եւ եկն ի ձեռն իւր` քսան հազար, եւ ճեպեաց Մանուէլ եւ եհաս ընդդէմ գնդին, եւ արկանէր ի սուր զզօրսն Պարսից. եւ զԳումանդ Շապուհն սպանանէր, եւ դարձեալ ելանէր մեծաւ յաղթութեամբ:

39:2 As soon as Armenia’s general, Manuel, heard about this, he assembled as many troops as he could lay hands on in those troubled times, some [20000] men, and hastened against that brigade. Manuel put the Iranian troops to the sword, killed Gumand Shapuh, and again emerged with great triumph:
