3:0 Concerning the mardpet Hayr and how king Pap ordered his execution:

3:1 Ապա պատմեցաւ թագաւորին Պապայ յաղագս օրերացն` զոր եդ Հայր մարդպետն տիկնոջն Փառանձեմայ, մօր թագաւորին Պապայ, թշնամանս ձաղանաց ի բերդարգել պաշարմանն. զի իբրեւ զբոզ մի, այնպէս թշնամանեաց զնա ի ժամանակի` իբրեւ եմուտ անդր գաղտուկ, եւ եդ անարգանս տիկնոջն, եւ եկն ել անտի եւ փախեաւ. ետուն զայս ամենայն զրոյց թագաւորին:

3:1 People told king Pap about the way Hayr mardpet had insulted king Pap’s mother tikin Paranjem when she was besieged in the fortress. For Hayr had entered the fortress secretly and insulted the tikin as though she were a whore, then he slipped out and fled. They told this entire story to the king:

3:2 Ապա մինչդեռ մարդպետն Հայր զիւրով իշխանութեամբ շրջէր յերկրին Տարօնոյ, եւ Մուշեղ սպարապետն Հայոց էր ի նմին գաւառին յիւրում բերդին` որում Ողական կոչեն, որ կայ ի վերայ գետոյն Եփրատայ, եկն եհաս մի դեսպան յարքայէն Պապայ առ զօրավարն Հայոց Մուշեղ. եւ ունէր առ նա հրովարտակ. եւ գրեալ էր ի հրովարտակին անդր հրաման առ նա, զի չարամահ սատակեսցէ զՀայր մարդպետն:

3:2 Now when the mardpet Hayr was circulating about his principality in the Taron country, Mushegh, the sparapet of Armenia was in the same district, at his fortress which was called Oghakan, and was located by the Euphrates river. An emissary came from king Pap to Mushegh, the general of Armenia, bearing with him a hrovartak which contained the order to wickedly kill the mardpet Hayr:

3:3 Եւ նա իբրեւ զայս հրամանս ընկալեալ ի ձեռն առնոյր, յղէր առ մարդպետն Հայր դաւով, եւ մեծարանաց պատճառանաւ առ ինքն կոչէր յՈղականն. եւ էին աւուրք ձմերայնոյ, եւ սաստկացեալ կցեալ էր գետն Եփրատ:

3:3 As soon as Mushegh had this order in hand he treacherously sent to the mardpet Hayr for him to come to him at Oghakan, supposedly to be exalted. This occurred during the winter, and the Euphrates river was frozen over:

3:4 Ապա կոչեալ եղեւ առ նա Հայր մարդպետն իբրեւ ի պատիւ մեծարանաց. եկն եմուտ մարդպետն ի բերդն յՈղական:

3:4 So, the mardpet Hayr, as if going to receive honors, went to the fortress of Oghakan:

3:5 Ետ հրաման զօրավարն Մուշեղ զօրականացն ունել զնա, եւ մերկանալ իբրեւ ի մօրէ, եւ կապել զձեռս նորա ի ներքոյ ծնկաց նորա, եւ իջուցանել զնա ի գետն, եւ դնել ի վերայ սառինն կցելոյ գետոյն. եւ սատակեցաւ անդէն:

3:5 General Mushegh ordered the troops to seize, and totally strip him, and to tie his hands below his knees. He ordered them to lower him down to the river and to put him on the frozen ice. And thus, did he perish:

3:6 Եւ եղեւ ի վաղիւ անդր չոգան տեսին, զի ուղիղ գլխոյն ի ցրտոյն վայրեալ ի բաց իջեալ թափեալ էր ընդ քիթս նորա:

3:6 The next day when they went to look, they noticed that his brain had oozed out of his nose from the cold:

3:7 Եւ փոխանակ ի նորա տեղի հայրութեան մարդպետութեանն կարգէ զԴգղակ ոմն անուն, որ յաւուրս Արշակայ թագաւորին կամ Տիրանայ հօր նորա գամու միոջ լեալ ի նոյն գործ մարդպետութեանն:

3:7 In his place as “Father” in the mardpetut’iwn they put a certain man named Dgghak, who, had been involved in the work of the mardpetutiwn during the days of king Arshak, or of his father, Tiran:
