30:0 Յայնմ ժամանակի ոչ դադարէր ամբոխ աղմկի հեռութեան անօրէն ազգին յաշխարհէս:

30:0 In this period the din of the mob of brigands of the impious nation continued unabated in our land:
|
30:1 Քանզի ամենայն ուրեք զբնական իւրեանց չարահնարութիւնն ոչ լքին յանձանց որդիքն Բելիարայ. այլ իժաբար դիմեալ անաստուած ոմն որում անուն էր Սուլէյման, եւ ընդ նմա որդիք յանցանաց ի կողմանցն Պարսից՝ ասպատակէին ի կողմանս Վասպուրականի, գործելով զանարժան բարս սննդակից չար սերմանցն:

30:1 For the sons of Belial practised their natural evil everywhere and did not desist. Now there was a certain snake-like individual named Sulaiman. (Allied) with him were the sons of sinfulness (?Paulicians) in the Iranian areas who commenced making attacks on the Vaspurakan area, (people) with unworthy behavior, fruit of wicked seed:

30:2 Որոց ի դիմի հարեալ նախարարարք ի տանէն Արծրունեաց Սահակ եւ Համազասպ սակաւ արամբք՝ անկան ի մէջ թշնամեացն: Իսկ նոքա իբրեւ տեսին զի նուազունք էին՝ ի մէջ արկեալք կամէին սպանանել:

30:2 Sahak and Hamazasp, lords of the Artsruni House, applied themselves (to the problem) with only a few men and fell in among the enemy. When (the enemy) saw that (their attackers) were few in number, they surrounded them and wanted to slay them:

30:3 Իբրեւ տեսին Սահակ եւ Համազասպ զհէնն զարթուցեալ ի վերայ, եւ զի ոչ ուստեք փախուստ գտանէր՝ սուր ի գործ արարեալ զբազմութիւն թշնամեացն խողխողէին, եւ ինքեանք դիմեալ ընդ տեղի մի ամբոխին զերծանել ջանային:

30:3 And when Sahak and Hamazasp saw the brigands rising up against them and that there was nowhere to flee to, they put their swords to work, killed a host of enemies, and tried to cut their way through the mob to escape:

30:4 Անդ կարեվէր խոցեալ Համազասպ՝ անկանէր յերիվարէն. եւ պատեալ զնովաւ թշնամեացն սպանին:

30:4 It was there that Hamazasp was fatally stabbed, fell from his horse and was surrounded by the enemy, who killed him:
|
30:5 Եւ Սահակ իբրեւ ետես զսպանումն եղբօրն, յաղագս յաճախ սիրոյն զոր ունէր առ եղբայրն մատնէր զանձն ի մահ. եւ ի խոնարհ անկեալ յերիվարէն՝ կարթակոտոր առնէր. եւ ինքն զայրագին անձամբ մենամարտէր եւ զբազումս դիաթաւալ կացուցանէր, մինչեւ խնդրել զվրէժ արեան եղբօր իւրոյ: Եւ ապա պարտեալ ի մարտին վախճանէր: Եւ այնպէս վճարէին ի կենաց ընտիր նախարարքն, որք էին որդիք Վահանայ Արծրունւոյ:

30:5 When Sahak saw the death of the brother he so deeply loved, he (resolved to) sacrifice his own life. He dismounted and hamstrung his horse, and then commenced furious single combat. He covered the ground with numerous corpses, seeking revenge for his brother’s blood. But then he gave his life, defeated in battle. Thus did these two select lords, sons of Vahan Artsruni, pass away:

30:6 Իսկ ապա յետոյ ազդ եղեալ եղբօր նոցա Գագկայ եւ այլոց նախարարացն որ ընդ նոսա՝ ելանէին ի տեղի մարտին վայիւք եւ ճչօք. այլ ոչ կարացին հասանել թշնամեացն: Դարձան ողբովք եւ աշխարանօք թաղել զմեռեալսն:

30:6 Subsequently their brother Gagik and the lords with them learned (what had happened). They went to the site of that battle lamenting and crying. However, they were unable to catch up with the enemy. So they turned back to bury the dead, sighing and lamenting:

30:7 Իսկ թշնամիքն դարձան ընդ նոյն ճանապարհ. որ ապա յետոյ սակաւ մի անկաւ ի ձեռս Գագկայ Արծրունւոյ եւ սպանաւ Սուլեյմանն եւ բազումք ընդ նմա:

30:7 As for the enemy, they returned by the same route (they had come by). Afterwards some of (the enemy) fell into Gagik Artsruni’s hands. And he killed Sulaiman and many with him:
