26:1 Շաղիտայս, այր սուրբ, էր լեալ աշակերտ մեծին Դանիէլի. եւ ի տղայութենէ իւրմէ սնեալ էր համակ յանապատս, եւ ընդ անապատաւորս խոտաճարակ լեալ էր:
|
26:1 This Shalita was a holy man, was a disciple of the great Daniel, grew up in the desert from childhood and ate grass with the hermits:
|
26:2 Եւ յետ հանգստեան սրբոյն Ներսիսի գնաց չոգաւ ի գաւառն Կորդուաց, եւ առնէր նշանս եւ սքանչելիս, եւ բնակէր ի մէջ առիւծուց. աւելի քան զքսան առեւծ հանապազ շրջէին ընդ նմա հանապազորդեալք:

26:2 After the death of Saint Nerses, he went to Korduk gavar, performed signs and wonders, lived among lions, and more than twenty lions always accompanied him everywhere:

26:3 Էր զի լինէր` զի յորժամ ցաւ ինչ ցաւէր գազանացն, գային շուրջ պատէին զնովաւ, եւ ձգձգէին զՇաղիտայն, եւ նշանաւ առնէին խնդրել զբժշկութիւն:

26:3 Sometimes, when something hurt the animals, they came, surrounded him, pulled him and explained with signs that he cured:
|
26:4 Եւ էր երբեմն` զի առեւծ մի մեծ, եւ էր ելեալ եղէգն ընդ թաթուլ բազկին առիւծոյն, եւ եկն առեւծն առ սուրբն Շաղիտայն ի լեառնն` յորում նստէր. եւ զօրէն մարդոյ ի վեր առեալ զթաթուլն` ցուցանէր նմա զվէրն, նշանացէր նմա բժշկել զինքն:

26:4 Once a big lion splintered his paw with a reed; a lion came to Saint Shalita and, like a man, raising his paw, showed the wound and asked for signs to heal him:
|
26:5 Իսկ սուրբն Շաղիտա հանէր զեղէգն` որ ընդ վէրն մտեալ էր, եւ թքանէր ի վէրն, եւ թաշկինակաւն` զոր ընդ գլուխն իւր էր ածեալ` հանեալ պատէր զթաթ առիւծուն եւ բժշկէր:

26:5 And Saint Shalita pulled out the reed that had settled in the wound, spat on the wound and, taking off the handkerchief from his head, tied the lion’s paw with it and cured it:
|
26:6 Եւ այսպէս բիւրապատիկ եւ պէսպէս առնէր զսքանչելիս:
|
26:6 So he worked thousands of all kinds of miracles:
|
26:7 Եւ գազանք էին կենաց կցորդ նորա, մինչ շրջէր նա յանապատս զամենայն աւուրս կենաց իւրոց:

26:7 and animals were companions of his life when he wandered in the desert all the days of his life:
|
26:8 Եւ ի գետ իբրեւ հասանէր, կօշկօքն անցանէր ի վերայ ջուրցն գետոցն, եւ ոչ թանային կօշիկք նորա:
|
26:8 When he came to the river, he walked through the river water in his shoes without getting his shoes wet:
|
26:9 Եւ յորժամ ի շէն ուրեք իջանէր, զբազում մոլորեալս դարձուցանէր նշանօք եւ արուեստիւք:
|
26:9 And wherever he stayed he converted many of the lost to the holy faith by signs and wonders:
|
26:10 Միայն շրջէր. եւ իբրեւ իջանէր ի շէնս, առնէր բժշկութիւնս բազում հիւանդաց. եւ էր սա աւուրբք ծերագոյն:
|
26:10 He came to villages and healed the sick, though he was very old:
|
26:11 Բայց ամենայն մարդ սպասէր եւ ակն ունէր մահու նորա, վասն ըմբռնելոյ զմարմին նորա:
|
26:11 But everyone was waiting for his death to possess his body:
|
26:12 Իսկ սուրբն Շաղիտա իմացեալ զայս` թէ սպասեն առնուլ զմարմին նորա բազում մարդիկ, ապա խնդրեաց Շաղիտա յԱստուծոյ, զի մի՛ ոք ըմբռնեսցէ զմարմին նորա:

26:12 And Saint Shalita, knowing that many people are waiting to possess his body, asked God that no one could fan his body:
|
26:13 Եւ եղեւ օր մի յաւուրց, որպէս սովորութիւն էր իւր, գնալ ի վերայ ջուրցն գետոյն:
|
26:13 And one day, he was crossing the river as he always did:
|
26:14 Եւ մինչ դեռ անցանէր նա ընդ գետն Կորդուաց, ըստ խնդրուածոցն իւրոց` որպէս եւ խնդրեաց նա, յանկարծակի` իբրեւ կայր ի մէջ գետոյն` յանկարծօրէն ընդ ջրովն մտեալ սուրբն Շաղիտայն ծածկեցաւ:

26:14 While he was crossing the river in Korduk, Saint Shalita suddenly plunged into the water and disappeared, according to his request, as he had requested:
|
26:15 Եւ մեծ գոյժ եղեւ գաւառին. եւ ժողովեցան անչափ բազմութիւնք մարդկանն ի մի վայր եկեալք կուտեցան, մինչեւ հատին դարձուցին ընդ այլ շրջեցին զգետն:
|
26:15 The sad news spread throughout Gavar, a huge crowd of people gathered, who dammed the river and diverted the water to the other side:
|
26:16 Եւ խնդրէին զմարմինն սրբոյն Շաղիտայի, եւ ոչ կարացին ուրեք գտանել. զի իւր խնդրուածքն առ Աստուած այսպէս էին լեալ յառաջագոյն, սոյնպէս եւ կատարեցաւ:
|
26:16 They searched for the body of Saint Shalita, but could not find it anywhere, because he had asked God for it in advance, and his request was fulfilled:
