11:0 Վասն թագաւորելոյն Սմբատայ՝ որդւոյ Աշոտոյ, եւ շինելոյ զպարիսպն Անւոյ հանդերձ եկեղեցեաւն, եւ գալոյն կիւրապաղատին Դաւթի ի Շիրակ:

11:0 About the Enthronement of Smbat, the son of Ashot; about the construction of the Ani wall with the church; about the arrival of kouropalates David in Shirak:

11:1 Զայսու ժամանակաւ մեռաւ թագաւորն Հայոց՝ աւրհնեալն Աշոտ՝ ի [ՆԻԶ] թուականին, եւ ի նոյն աւուր թագաւորեաց Սմբատ՝ որդի նորա [ԺԳ] ամս:

11:1 Around this time, the Armenian king, blessed Ashot, died in [426=977], and on that very day his son Smbat started his reign, (ruling) lasting for [13] years:

11:2 Սա լիր արկեալ՝ պարսպափակ առնէ զպարիսպն Անւոյ, յԱխուրեան գետոյ մինչեւ ցձորն Ծաղկոցաց, կրով եւ վիմաւք մածուցեալ, մահարձանաւք եւ աշտարակաւք բրգանց, բարձրաբերձ պարսպեալ բացագոյն քան զհին պարիսպն յընդարձակութիւն քաղաքին, եւ մայրագերան դրամբք՝ երկաթագամ հաստահեղոյս բեւեռապինդ ամրացուցեալ:

11:2 Having filled the ditches, he raised a new wall on them, surrounding the former wall of the city of Ani, starting from the Axurean River to the Calkotsk valley; he built it of stone and lime with stone towers: it was far away from the old city wall, was higher than it and embraced the entire space of the city, with a gate of cedar wood, reinforced with thick iron nails:

11:3 Արկանէ հիմն եւ մեծաշէն եկեղեցւոյն ի նոյն քաղաքին Անւոյ ի ձեռն ճարտարապետին Տրդատայ, որ զկաթողիկոսարանին եկեղեցին շինեաց յԱրգինայ:

11:3 He also laid the foundation of an extensive church in the same city of Ani with the assistance of the architect Trdat, who built the church of the patriarchal palace in Argina:

11:4 Եւ էր խաղաղութիւն եւ շինութիւն յաշխարհիս Հայոց:

11:4 At that time, peace and prosperity reigned in Armenia:

11:5 Եւ սկսաւ նա գոռալ ընդ հաւրեղբաւր իւր Մուշեղայ, որ ի Կարս. եւ առնու զբերդն, որ ի Ճակատս, որում Շատիկն կոչեն:

11:5 After all this Smbat started a war with his cousin (paternal) Mushegh, who was in Kars, and took the fortress called Shatik, which is in the Chakatk’s district of the Ayrarat province:

11:6 Յայսմ պատճառէ կիւրապաղատն Տայոց Դաւիթ ամենայն զաւրաւքն Վրաց խաղայ ի վերայ Սմբատայ եւ գայ իջանէ ի Շիրակ, ի գիւղն, որում Բաւաց ձորն կոչեն. ընդ նմա եւ Մուշեղ, որ կոչեացն զնա:

11:6 As a result of this, the Tayk’s kouropalates David with all the Iberian troops went to Smbat and, having arrived in Shirak, stopped in a village called Bavats-dzor (in the Shirak district of the Ayrarat province); he was accompanied by Mushegh, who summoned him to help himself:

11:7 Եւ Սմբատայ զամրոցն անդրէն ի ձեռս նոցա տուեալ՝ խաղաղութիւն հաստատեն, ոչ ինչ մեղուցեալ աշխարհին Սմբատայ, վասն զի խաղաղասէր եւ իրաւարար էր կիւրապաղատն:

11:7 Smbat returns the fortress to them and they, having made peace with him, did not cause the slightest harm to Smbat’s possessions, because the kouropalates was (a person) peaceful and fair:
