27:1 Բայց սակաւ ամաւք յառաջ քան
զայս՝ զթագաւորն Ափխազաց զԹեւտաս կուրացուցին մեծամեծք աշխարհին՝ բառնալով ի նմանէ զթագաւորութիւնն:

27:1 A few years before that, the king of the Abkhazia Theodosius was blinded by the nobles of the country, destroying his royal power:

27:2 Եւ կիւրապաղատն Տայոց Դաւիթ եւ Սմբատ արքայ Հայոց թագաւորեցուցին Ափխազաց զՍմբատ՝ որդի Գուրգենայ, թոռն Բագարատայ թագաւորին Վրաց:

27:2 Tayk’s kouropalates David and the Armenian king Smbat appointed Smbat, the son of Gurgen, the grandson of the Iberian king Bagarat, as the king of the Apkhazians:

27:3 Եւ մեռեալ հանւոյ նորա՝ հաւն նորա Բագարատ այլ կին արարեալ, որ հալածէր զԳուրգէն՝ որդի Բագարատայ ի հայրենեացն:

27:3 After the death of his grandmother, his (Smbat) grandfather Bagarat married another wife, who began to drive Gurgen, the son of Bagarat, from his estate:

27:4 Յայսմ պատճառէ որդին Գուրգենայ՝ թագաւոր Ափխազաց խաղայ զաւրաւք բազմաւք ի Սարմատացւոց աշխարհէն ի վերայ կիւրապաղատին Տայոց
Դաւթի եւ հաւուն իւրոյ Բագարատայ, յայսկոյս անցեալ ընդ կովկասային լերինսն, գայ բանակի յեզերս Կուրն կոչեցեալ գետոյ:

27:4 For this reason, the king of the Abkhazians, the son of Gurgen, at the head of a large army from the land of the Sarmatians, went to the kouropalates David and his grandfather Bagarat and, having crossed this side of the Caucasian mountains, camped on the banks of the Kur River:

27:5 Եւ կիւրապաղատն Տայոց Դաւիթ եւ թագաւորն Վրաց Բագարատ առաքեն առ թագաւորն Հայոց Սմբատ՝ կոչել յաւգնականութիւն իւրեանց:

27:5 Then Kouropalates David and King Bagarat of Iberia sent to the Armenian King Smbat to ask him to come to their aid:

27:6 Եւ նորա առեալ զամենայն զաւրս Հայոց եւ զԳագիկ՝ զեղբայր իւր, գնաց առ նոսա ի գաւառն Ջաւախաց. եւ բանակին ի գիւղն, որ կոչի Դլիւեկն, եւ մանուկն Աբաս՝ թագաւորն Կարուց, կարմրազգեստ զգունդն իւր ունելով:

27:6 This latter, taking all the Armenian troops and his brother Gagik, went to them in the Javaxats district and camped in a village called Dlivek. (There was also) the king of Kars, young Abas, with his detachment, dressed in red clothes:

27:7 Եւ ամենայն զաւրն Վրաց եւ Վասպուրականի, Սիւնեաց եւ Աղուանից իշխանքն միահաւաք լինէին ընդդէմ Ափխազաց զաւրուն: Որոց երկուցեալ՝ զխաղաղութիւն խնդրեն եւ սէր հաստատեն առ միմեանս:

27:7 All the Iberian and Vaspurakan troops, the Siwnik and Albania princes united against the army of the Abkhazians, who, horrified by this, began to ask for peace and concluded a friendly alliance among themselves:

27:8 Կիւրապաղատն Դաւիթ խնդրէ ի թագաւորէն Ափխազաց զբերդն Սակուրէթ, եւ առեալ տայ թագաւորին Հայոց Սմբատայ՝ շնորհ նմա արարեալ վասն աւգնականութեանն. զոր ի մահուն Սմբատայ դարձեալ հանեն ի Հայոց զբերդն Սակուրէթ:

27:8 Kuropalates David demanded from the king of the Abkhazia the fortress of Sakuret, having received which he ceded to the Armenian king Smbat as a token of gratitude for the help rendered to him; but after the death of Smbat, this fortress was again taken from the Armenians:

27:10 Բայց յայնժամ զխաղաղութիւն առ միմեանս հաստատեալ՝ դառնան յիւրաքանչիւր բնակութիւնս: Այս եղեւ ի [ՆԼԷ] թուականին:

27:10 Then, having established peace among themselves, (the allied sovereigns) each returned to his own possession. This happened in [437=988] year:
