43:0 Վասն գալոյն Գուրգենայ յերկիրն Տայոց, եւ զաւրացն Յունաց՝ ի գաւառն Բասենոյ:

 43:0 About the arrival of Gurgen in the Tayk’s land and the Greek army in the Basean district:

43:1 Իսկ Գուրգէն թագաւոր Վրաց անարգանս իւր համարեալ զմաժիստռոսութեան պատիւն, զոր ետ նմա արքայն Վասիլ, եւ ի խելապատակէն թեթեւ գոլով՝ նշկահեաց զնա. գայ ամենայն զաւրաւքն իւրովք եւ տիրէ Տայոց աշխարհին:

 43:1 King Gurgen of Iberia, considering for himself a humiliation of the dignity of the master, granted to him by King Basil, as a man by nature limited, repudiated from him and attacked the Tayk’ country with all his army, took possession of it:

43:2 Եւ մարտուցեալ ընդ փոքր բերդին Ուխթեաց՝ չկարաց ստնանել, եւ ոչ այլ բերդի ումեք, այլ ժողովեալ զբազմութիւն զաւրացն բանակէ ի ձորն Մամրուանի:

 43:2 Having besieged the small fortress of Uxtik, he could not cause the slightest harm not only to her, but also to no other fortress, and therefore he gathered all his troops in the Mamruan valley, where he camped:

43:3 Զոր լուեալ թագաւորին Վասլի՝ հրաման տայ մաժիստռոսին, որում Կանիկլն կոչիւր, ամենայն զաւրաւքն Յունաց ելանել ի վերայ նորա. որ ընդ նոյնահետ ճանապարհաւ թագաւորն եկեալ բանակի ի գաւառն Բասեան, ի [ՆԾ] թուականին Հայոց. եւ զողջոյն ամն մինչեւ ցձմեռնն երկոքին կողմանքն կացին ի նոյն տեղիս:

 43:3 King Basil, having learned this, ordered the master, named Kanikl, with all the Greek troops to go to Gurgen, who came along the same road and settled down in the Basin district in the year [450=1001] of the Armenian chronology. Both (enemy) sides spent a whole year in these places before the onset of winter:

43:4 Եւ ապա զխաղաղութիւն խաւսեցեալ Կանիկլին ընդ Գուրգենայ, որպէս թէ առնել թագաւորին զկամս նորա, զոր խնդրիցէ:

 43:4 Then Kanikl entered into negotiations with Gurgen, saying that the emperor agreed to fulfill his desire:

43:5 Եւ եկեալ ի հանդիպումն միմեանց Գուրգէն եւ մաժիստռոսն ի մայրաբուսակ լերինն Մեծրաց, ի գիւղն, որում սուրբ Աստուածածին կոչի, անուամբ եկեղեցւոյն, որ ի նմա, եւ հանդիպեալ միմեանց եւ խաւսեցեալ զխաղաղութիւն՝ գնացին յիւրաքանչիւր տեղիս:

 43:5 The master and Gurgen met on the wooded mountain of Mecrach, in a village called Surb-Astuatzatzin (St. Mother of God) by the name of the church located in it: having seen each other, they made peace among themselves and each parted in their own direction:
