19:1 Եւ ուրախ եղեն ընդ մխիթարութիւն թղթոյն. եւ զի եկեալ հասեալ էին ուղեգնացքն լուսաւորութեամբ, եւ երեւեալ աստուածաշնորհ պարգեւաւք, առաւել զհոգեւոր սիրոյն զանձուկսն սփռէին՝ եւ եւս քան զեւս ի հաւատսն հաստատեցան մեծաւ եւ ցնծալից բերկրութեամբ:

19:1 They were happy at the consolation of the letter; and also, because the travelers had arrived in Armenia illuminated, and with visible gifts of divine grace. They spread all the more their fervor of divine love and were even more firmly established in the faith:

19:2 Իսկ նա անդէն «եւ անդ ընդելական սովորութեամբն ի գործ արկեալ զանդադար վարդապետութիւնն հաւասարութեամբ բարեպաշտ» արքային Տրդատայ՝ «զիւր արուեստն առաջի դնէր. խրատէր յորդորելով. որով առաւելագոյն հնազանդէին նմա ըստ հրամանացն Աստուծոյ, թագաւորն եւ զաւրքն ամենայն հանդերձ աշխարհախումբ բազմութեամբն, որոց յանձն առեալ ամենեցուն զխնդրելին կատարել», եւ զհրամայեալսն ի գործ արկանել:

19:2 Then he according to his usual habit set himself to unceasing instruction, and with the assistance of the pious king Trdat set forth his skill and continuously gave admonition. Thus, ever more people came to obey him according to God’s commands, the king and all the army with the mass of the common people, all undertaking to fulfill his request and execute his orders:

19:3 Եւ նորա տուեալ հրաման արքայագունդ բանակացն՝ ամսաւրեայ ժամանակաւ ի պահս եւ յաղաւթս յամենալ:

19:3 And he commanded the royal camp to spend a month in fasting and prayer:

19:4 Եւ իւրում անձինն՝ զսովորականն առաջի դնէր, իւրայովքն անդուստ ածելովքն հաւասարաւքն, զպահս եւ զաղաւթս, զտքնութիւնս, զպաղատանս արտաւսրաբերս, զխստամբերութիւնս, զհոգս աշխարհահեծս, յուշ առնելով զասացեալսն հոգեպատում մարգարէին, թէ Յորժամ հեծեծեսցես՝ յայնժամ կեցցես:

19:4 With his companions that he had brought thence he imposed on himself his customary fasting and prayer, vigils, tearful supplications, austerities, world-lamenting cares, having regard for the words of the inspired prophet: “When you will lament, then you will live:

19:5 Այսպէս բազում աշխատութեամբ տարեալ՝ վասն համաշխարհին բարեաց ինչ աւճան գտանելոյ. որում եւ պարգեւէր իսկ վիճակ յամենաշնորհն Աստուծոյ, հայրական չափուն ծնանել ծնունդ նորոգ եւ սքանչելի, պարգեւաբաշխ սուրբ աջովն իւրով». զամենայն ի ջրոյ եւ ի Հոգւոյ յարգանդէ՝ մկրտութեամբ միւսանգամ վերստին ծնանել, առնել կատարել, սրբել, դրոշմել մի ժողովուրդ Տեառն:

19:5 In this way he exerted much effort to find blessing and grace for the whole land. To him the gift was granted by all-gracious God to produce a new and wonderful birth in fatherly fashion, by his holy and liberal right hand; to give birth once again to everyone by baptism from water and the womb of the Spirit [cf. Jn. 3.5], to perfect, purify and seal one people of the Lord:

19:6 Եւ եդ անդ հիմունս, եւ շինեաց եկեղեցի. եւ զնշխարսն զոր ունէր յոսկերաց սրբոցն՝ ի տէրունական տանն բնակեցուցանէր:

19:6 There Gregory laid the foundations and built a church, and it was there, in the Lord’s house, that he gave a home to the relics he had of the saints’ bones:

19:7 Սոյնպէս եւ ընդ ամենայն կողմանս գաւառացն դնէր հիմունս եկեղեցեաց, եւ ուղղէր սեղանս, եւ կացուցանէր քահանայս:

19:7 Similarly, throughout all parts of the districts he laid foundations for churches, erected altars, and designated priests:

19:8 Եւ ամենայն երկիրն դարձեալ սրտիւք իւրեանց կանխէին ի պահս եւ ի պաշտաւն եւ յերկիւղն Աստուծոյ:

19:8 The entire country was converted with all their hearts and were diligent in fasting and in the service and fear of God:
