6:1 Իսկ մնացեալ երկու որդիքն Սմբատայ՝ Աշոտ եւ Աբաս: Աշոտ փախստեայ երթայ ի Կոստանդնուպոլիս, ի դուռն կայսեր Յունաց Լեւոնի: Իսկ Աբաս գնաց յաշխարհն Վրաց, փեսայացեալ նոցին՝ դառնայ յաշխարհս մեր զկնի դառնալոյ եղբաւր իւրոյ Աշոտոյ ի Կոստանդնուպոլսէ:

6:1 Of the remaining two sons of Smbat - Ashot and Abas, Ashot fled to Constantinople to the court of the Greek emperor Leo, while Abas went to the land of Iberia, where he, having married, returned to Armenia after the return of his brother Ashot from Constantinople:

6:2 Այս Աշոտ, որ ըստ քաջապինդ արութեան իւրոյ Երկաթ անուանեցաւ՝ բազում գործս արութեան ցուցեալ ի Կոստանդնուպոլիս եւ յաշխարհն Յունաց՝ հրամանաւ Լեւոնի դառնայ յաշխարհս մեր եւ գտանէ զծառայս հաւր իւրոյ թագաւորեալ. զինքն անուանեաց Շահանշահ, այսինքն թագաւորաց թագաւոր. եւ հալածական առնէ զԻսմայէլացւոց զաւրն յաշխարհէս Հայոց. որոյ ի մարտս՝ զաւրաց ոչ պիտաւորէր, այլ անձամբ մղէր զպատերազմն:

6:2 Ashot, nicknamed Erkat (Iron) for his extraordinary courage, who performed miracles of courage in Constantinople and (generally) in Greece, returned to Armenia at the order of Leo, where he found his father’s vassals reigning. He proclaimed himself Shahanshah, [i.e.] the king of kings, drove the Ishmaelite troops out of Armenia. He (generally little) relied on the army and always personally led all the wars:

6:3 Այլ զկնի Լեւոնի թագաւորէ Յունաց Աղէքսանդր՝ եղբայր նորին [Ա] ամ: Եւ ապա Ռոմանոս թագաւորեաց Յունաց [յՅԿԵ] թուականին Հայոց՝ [ԻԲ] ամս:

6:3 After Leo, his brother Alexander reigned in Greece and (ruled) for [1] year. Then Romanos reigned in Greece in the year [365=916] of the Armenian chronology and ruled) for [22] years:

6:4 Սա յերկրորդ ամի թագաւորութեանն իւրոյ գումարեաց զաւր բազում եւ դեմեսլիկոս առաքեաց ի Դուին քաղաք, յորում էր Սպքի ամիրայ, որ զԱշոտն Շահանշահ աւգնական իւր արկ ի քաղաքն:

6:4 In the second year of his reign, he gathered a large army and, under the command of Demeslikos, sent him to the city of Dvin, where the Amir Spuk was located, who invited Shahanshah Ashot, to help him in the city:

6:5 Եւ եկեալ զաւրն Յունաց՝ պաշարեցին զԴուին եւ ոչ կարացին ստնանել՝ դարձան անդրէն:
