20:1 Իսկ ի լնուլ կիտին եդելոյ պահոցն կատարելոյ, առեալ երանելւոյն Գրիգորի զաշխարհաբանակ զաւրացն, եւ զինքնին զթագաւորն, եւ զկին նորա Աշխէն, եւ զմեծ աւրիորդն Խոսրովիդուխտ, եւ զմեծամեծսն ամենայն, եւ ամենայն մարդկաւ բանակին հանդերձ՝ ընդ այգն ի լուսանալ առաւաւտուն յափն Եփրատ գետոյն մատուցանէր, եւ անդէն մկրտէր առ հասարակ զամենեսեան յանուն Հաւր եւ Որդւոյ եւ Հոգւոյն սրբոյ:

20:1 At the final completion of the fast, the blessed Gregory took the army, the king himself, his wife, Ashxen, the great princess [oriordn] Xosroviduxt, and all the grandees, and all the people of the retinue, and early in the day, at dawn, he took them to the banks of the Euphrates River and baptized all of them, in the name of the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit:

20:2 Եւ իբրեւ իջանէին մարդիկն ամենայն եւ թագաւորն ի մկրտութիւն անդր, ի ջուրսն Եփրատ գետոյն՝ նշան սքանչելի երեւեալ յԱստուծոյ. զի զետղ առեալ ջուրք գետոյն՝ անդրէն դարձան ընդ կրուկն:

20:2 When all the people and the king descended to the waters of the Euphrates River for baptism, a marvelous sign appeared from God. For the waters of the river stopped and turned around:

20:3 Եւ լոյս սաստիկ երեւեալ ի նմանութիւն սեան լուսաւորի՝ եւ եկաց ի վերայ ջուրց գետոյն, եւ ի վերայ նորա նմանութիւն տէրունական խաչին. եւ այնչափ ծագեաց լոյսն, մինչեւ արգելոյր զճառագայթս արեգականն եւ նուաղեցուցանէր:

20:3 Then a bright light appeared in the form of a luminous column and came and rested over the waters in the likeness of the Lord’s cross. The light shined out so brightly that it obscured and reduced the sun’s rays:

20:4 Եւ իւղն աւծութեան, զոր արկանէր Գրիգորիոս ի վերայ մարդկանն՝ շրջան առեալ ի մէջ գետոյն շուրջ զմարդկաւն խաղայր:

20:4 The oil of anointing which Gregory poured over people floated around them in the river:

20:5 Եւ ամենեքեան զարմացեալք բարձրացուցանէին զաւրհնութիւն ի փառս Աստուծոյ:

20:5 All were astounded and raised blessings to the glory of God:
|
20:6 Եւ ընդ երեկս աւուրն նշանն աներեւոյթ լինէր, եւ նոքա ի վեր յաւանն դառնային:

20:6 The sign disappeared in the evening, and the people returned to the hamlet:
|
20:7 Եւ որք մկրտեցանն յաւուր յայնմիկ՝ աւելի քան զհնգետասան բիւր մարդկան յարքունական զաւրացն:
|
20:7 On that day more than one hundred and fifty thousand from the royal army were baptized:

20:8 Եւ անտի ելեալ մեծաւ ցնծութեամբ եւ սպիտակազգեստ հանդերձիւք, սաղմոսիւք եւ աւրհնութեամբք, կանթեղաւք վառելովք, եւ մոմեղինաւք լուցելովք, եւ ջահիւք բորբոքելովք, մեծաւ լրջմտութեամբ եւ բազում զուարթութեամբ լուսաւորեալք եւ հրեշտակացեալք. եւ առեալ զանուն որդեգրութեանն Աստուծոյ, եւ մտեալ ի ժառանգութիւն սրբոյ Աւետարանին, եւ ի վիճակ սրբոցն խառնեալք, ծաղկեալք ի հոտ անոյշ ի Քրիստոս, եւ ելեալք ի վեր ի տէրունական տունն դառնային:

20:8 They went forth in great joy, in white garments, with psalms and blessings [cf. Eph. 5.19] and lighted lamps and burning candles and blazing torches, with great rejoicing and happiness, illuminated and become like the angels. They had received the title of God’s adoption [cf. Rom. 8.15, etc.], had entered the heritage of the holy gospel [cf. Eph. 1.18], and being joined to the rank of the saints [cf. Acts 26.18] were flowering with sweet odor in Christ [cf. Eph. 5.2; Phil. 4.18]. So, they went forth and returned to the Lord’s house:

20:9 Եւ անդ մատուցանէր զաւրհնութեան պատարագն, հաղորդէր զամենեսեան ի խորհուրդն գոհութեան. բաշխէր ամենեցուն զսուրբ մարմինն եւ զպատուական արիւնն ամենափրկչին Քրիստոսի, զկենդանարարն եւ զկեցուցիչն ամենայն մարդկան, եւ զարարիչն եւ զաշխարհագործն ամենայն արարածոց, զաստուածատուր շնորհսն առ ամենեսեան առատապէս մատակարարէր:

20:9 There he offered the blessed sacrifice and communicated them all with the blessed sacrament, distributing to all the holy body and precious blood of Christ the Savior of all, who vivifies and gives life to all men, the creator and fashioner of all creatures; and he liberally administered to all the divinely-given grace:
