19:0 Յաղագս որդւոցն Յուսկանն` Պապայն եւ Աթանագինէին, եթէ ո՛րպէս կամ զիարդ սատակեցան յանօրէնութեան իւրեանց:

19:0 Yusik’s sons Pap and Atanagines and how they were killed in a blessed place because of their impiety:

19:1 Այլ որդիքն Յուսկանն, Պապն եւ Աթանագենէս, յաստուածատեցութեանն զկեանս իւրեանց վարեցին. յանօրէնութեան եւ յամբարշտութեան շրջէին:
|
19:1 The sons of Yusik, Pap and Atanagines led their lives in impiety, lewdness and God-hating:
|
19:2 Եւ զամենայն աւուրս կենաց իւրեանց ի մեծի յանդգնութեան էին, եւ ոչ երկեւղ Աստուծոյ առաջի աչաց նոցա. եւ ի բազում անառակութեան եւ ի գիջութեան գնային, եւ զկարգն Աստուծոյ արհամարհեալ այպանէին:

19:2 Every day of their lives passed in great audacity, without the fear of God before their eyes. They conducted themselves in a licentious way, in adultery, and ridiculed and scorned the order of God:

19:3 Եւ էին նոքա յերկրին Տարօնոյ յեկեղեցւոջ յաւանին յԱշտիշատ, ուր զառաջինն էր շինեալ զեկեղեցին ի հաւոյն նոցա Գրիգորէ:

19:3 Now it happened that they were in the Taron country at the church in the awan at Ashtishat, the first church which their grandfather, Gregory, had built:

19:4 Յայն գեւղ երկոքեան եղբարքն երթեալք հասանէին` Պապն եւ Աթանագենէս:
|
19:4 Pap and Atanagenes, the two brothers, went and reached that village:
|
19:5 Եւ բազում հատեալ յարբշռութիւն, զԱստուծոյ զտաճարաւն այպն առնէին. եւ երթեալք երկոքին եղբարքն մտանէին յեպիսկոպոսանոցն` որ էրն անդ, եւ ըմպէին անդ գինի բոզօք եւ վարձակօք եւ գուսանօք եւ կատակօք, զսուրբ եւ զնուիրեալ տեղօքն քամահեալ` կոխան առնէին:

19:5 With great impiety they were ridiculing the temple of God. The two brothers went and entered the episcopate located there and drank wine with whores, harlots, bards [gusans], and jesters, and, scorning the blessed and sacred places, they trampled on them:
|
19:6 Եւ մինչ էին յուրախութեան մեծի, բազմեալք էին ի ներքս եպիսկոպոսանոցին ուտէին եւ ըմպէին, յանկարծակի հրեշտակ տեառն երեւեցաւ ի նմանութիւն փայլատական, եւ հարեալ սատակէր զերկոսեան զեղբարսն միանգամայն ի բազմականին անդ:

19:6 While they were in great merriment, reclining in the episcopate eating and drinking, suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared in the form of a bolt of lightning, striking the two brothers dead where they sat:

19:7 Եւ այլ մարդիկն` որք էին անդ, որք տաճարակիցք էին ուրախակիցք եւ բազմականակիցք էին, որք միանգամ անդ դիպեցան, առ հասարակ թողին եւ փախեան, եւ ելին արտաքս ի տաճարէ անտի:

19:7 The other people who were with them in the temple making merry and sitting with them, up and fled from the temple, one and all:
|
19:8 Եւ յահէն մեծէ այլ ոչ եւս ոք ի նոցանէ դարձաւ անդրէն. եւ ոչ ոք իշխեաց բնաւ այլ մարդ ի մարդկանէ մտաբերել մտանել ի ներքս, եւ ոչ ի դուրսն հուպ երթալ եւ դնել, քանզի ի բաց մնաց ի փախչելն նոցա. եւ ոչ յայլ աւուրս ոք առ դրօքն իշխէր անցանել:

19:8 Out of terror not one of them turned back, nor did anyone else dare think of going inside or even of approaching the door which had remained open when they fled. On the following days, no one dared to cross the threshold:

19:9 Եւ Պապն եւ Աթանագենէս երկոքեան եղբարքն այսպէս սատակեցան. անկեալ դնէին ի ներքոյ եպիսկոպոսանոցին ի տեղւոջն բազմականացն:

19:9 Thus did the two brothers, Pap and Atanagines, perish, felled inside the episcopate in the spot where they reclined:

19:10 Եւ դրունք տաճարին ի բաց կային, եւ ոք հուպ չիշխէր երթալ. մինչեւ նեխեցան մարմինք նոցա եւ կողոպտեցան, եւ յաղկեցան. քակեցան լուծան ի միմեանց, ցրուեցան ոսկերք նոցա:

19:10 The doors of the temple remained open, and no one dared to approach. Finally, their bodies rotted, spoiled, and decomposed, and their bones came apart and scattered:
|
19:11 Եւ բազում ամիսք անցանէին ի վերայ իրացն. ապա իշխեցին մտանել ժողովել բառնալ հանել անտի զոսկերս նոցա, եւ գտանէին զնոսա լոկ ցամաքեալ զկճղացեալ զոսկերս նոցա. եւ հանէին յայգւոջն եկեղեցւոյն, որում Ագարակն կոչեն:

19:11 Many months passed. Then the people dared to enter, collect and remove their bones which had become withered and dry. They removed them to the church vineyard, which was named Agarak:

19:12 Բայց մնաց Աթանագենի որդի ի Բամբշնէ ի քեռէ թագաւորին, եւ անուն նորա Ներսէս, որ եկաց յաթոռ հայրապետացն առ յապայ ամենայն երկիր Հայոց:

19:12 Atanagines was survived by a son from the king’s sister, Bambish, named Nerses. Subsequently Nerses came to occupy the throne of the patriarchs, throughout the entire country of Armenia:

19:13 Բայց Պապոյ ի բուն ի կնոջէն ոչ մնաց, այլ էր նորա հարճ մի ի գաւառէն Տարօնոյ, ի Հացեաց գեղջէ կարճազատացն. եւ մնաց որ ի հարճէ անտի ի Հացեկացւոյն որում անուն իւր` որդւոյ հարճին Վրիկ կոչէր:

19:13 Pap was not survived by any son from his natural wife. However, he had relations with a concubine from the district of Taron who was of the karchazats of Hatseats village. From this Hatsekatsi concubine who was named ____, name missing Pap was survived by a son called Vrik:
