84:0 Իսկ Սիւնեաց զաւրուն թափեալ զփորոտի իշխանին իւրեանց յերկիր, վասն կարի զազրապէս հոտելոյն, եւ պատեալ եղեգամբ` առեալ գնացին ազգականք իւր եւ ծառայք յաշխարհն Սիւնեաց:

84:0 Because of the extremely disagreeable odor, the Siwnik’ troops threw the entrails of their prince on the ground. Then, after wrapping him in reeds, his relatives and servants took him to the land of Siwnik’:

84:1 Եւ զայն տեսեալ Սիւնեաց այրուձիոյն բովանդակի, քամակակոտոր խորտակմամբ ցրուեալք եւ քայքայեալք` ընդ այլ եւ այլ ճանապարհս գնացին յիւրաքանչիւր տեղիս:

84:1 When the Siwnik’ cavalry saw this, dismayed and distraught, they separated and splintered from each other and each returned to his place via different roads:

84:2 Եւ Շապուհ պարսիկ գնդին զաւրագլուխն իբրեւ տեսանէր զքակտումն Սիւնի գնդին եւ զահաւոր զաւրութիւն հակառակորդին Վահանայ Մամիկոնենի՝ զմտաւ ածեալ յիշէր զանընդդիմակայ զաւրութիւնն, սրտմեռեալ զարհուրէր, եւ թէ զի՞նչ առնիցէ` չիմանայր. զի ասէր:

84:2 When Shapuh, the military commander of the Iranian brigade, saw the collapse of the Siwnik’ brigade and the awesome might of (his) adversary Vahan Mamikonean, he recalled the irresistible strength (of God) and was thoroughly frightened, wondering but not knowing what to do. For he note:

84:3 Թէ ի կենդանութեանն այնպիսւոյ առն, որպէս Գդիհոն էր, եւ այրընտիր գնդաւ յաղթեալ գտաւ նա եւ որ ընդ նմայն էին, յաւելուածով եւ այսոցիկ եւս որ աստ են առ իս, եւ համարեալ առ ոչինչ Վահանայ, երեսուն միայն արամբք ի վերայ երից եւ չորից հազարաց յարձակեալ` խորտակեաց զամենեցունց զսիրտս, եւ պատառեալ վեր եւ ի վայր զայնչափ զաւրաց բազմութիւն` զայնպիսի մեծամեծ գործեաց վնասս. իսկ այժմ ո՞րպիսի վստահութեամբ կարասցուք զայնպիսի քաջորերոյ ունել զդէմ սակաւացեալքս:

84:3 Vahan regarded as nothing the life of such a man as Gdihon and conquered him, the men with him, and the select brigade, as well as the men here with me. He attacked three and four thousand men with only thirty men, crushed the hearts of all, destroyed such a huge multitude of troops, and caused such massive damage. With what assurance can we (who have become few) resist such brave folk:

84:4 Այլ եւ զայս զմտաւ ածեալ երկնչիմ, մի՛ գուցէ ըստ բազմահնար իւրոյ իմաստութեանն, առաքեալ ի մերձակայ սահմանակից տեղեացս առ հայ մարդիկդ գաւառին Անձտայ եւ կամ Ծոփաց եւ Հաշտենից, եւ առեալ ի նոցանէ աւգնականս, որպէս յիւրոց ազգականաց` չկարիցեմք եւ զապրումն անձանց, որ մնացեալքս եմք` գտանել այնուհետեւ:

84:4 Thinking it over, I fear that in accordance with (Vahan’s) brilliance, he will send to the nearby bordering places, to the Armenians of the district of Anjit or Cop’ or Hashteank’, and take auxiliaries from them as from his own relatives; and we survivors will be unable to save our own lives:

84:5 Այլ եկա՛յք փութասցո՛ւք երթալ յոստանին Հայոց ի տեղիս, եւ ճեպաւ դեսպանաւք զգացուսցո՛ւք արքայից արքայի:

84:5 Come now, let us hasten to the place of the ostan of Armenia and quickly send emissaries to inform the king of kings:

84:6 Վասն զի եւ նորա, թէ աստուածոց աւգնութեամբն վճարեալ է զիւր գործն` ժամ է յոստանն դառնալոյ:

84:6 Even though the Gods’ assistance settled his affairs, it is time to return to the ostan:
|
84:7 Եւ այնուհետեւ թէ բուռն գնդաւ, եւ կամ իւր իսկ գլխով` նա իշխէ որպէս եւ գտանէ առնել գլուխ Հայոց գործոյս:

84:7 Thereafter, with the force of the brigade or by himself, he will try to take charge of the affairs of Armenia:

84:8 Այլ ես զեռանդի գործոյն տեսչութիւնն իբրեւ զմտաւ ածեալ յիշեմ` ոչ զաւրեմ բնաւ խորհել ինչ եւ կամ իմանալ. զի թէպէտ եւ ոչ ինչ աւագ եմ ժամանակաւ, սակայն եւ ոչ երբէք յԱրեաց լուայ ի զաւրագլխաց, եւ կամ ես այժմու ժամանակաւս եւ կամ յանցեալ դարս նախ ի պատերազմողաց, եթէ տասն արամբ ոք ի վերայ երից հազարաց այրընտիր արանց յարձակեալ եւ զայնպիսի գործեալ գործ` գնաց ինքն զերծեալ անվնաս:

84:8 But as I review the events of the day before yesterday, I am unable to think or imagine anything. Although I am not so old, I have never even heard from the Aryan military commanders about warriors in centuries past, nor have I witnessed in my own time (an instance when) someone with ten men attacked [3000] select cavalrymen, accomplished so much, and then got away unharmed:
