31:1 Իսկ ապա, ի [ՆԽԱ] թուականին՝ Գագիկ արքայ Հայոց կացոյց կաթողիկոս Հայոց զՏէր Սարգիս:

31:1 In [441=992], the Armenian king Gagik installed the Armenian lord Sargis as Catholicos:

31:2 Սա ի տղայական տիս ընծայեալ Աստուծոյ, սնեալ եւ զարգացեալ առ հաւրեղբաւր իւրոյ, առաքինաջան եւ ժիր մշակին Քրիստոսի, եւ ոչ ինչ երկրաւորացս պարապեալ հոգոց. այլ ի բաց եդեալ զզբաւսանս աշխարհածուփ անցաւոր զբաղմանց՝ ըստ պատուիրանին սրբութեան՝ առաքելական խորանացն սպասաւոր եղեալ ի ծովակին Գեղամայ, ի վանսն Սեւանայ, զոր շինեալ էր երանելւոյ առնն Աստուծոյ Տէր Մաշտոցի:

31:3 Որ եւ ըստ ցանկութեան անձին անապատասէր կենացն, զվարսն գտեալ զաւրէն զուարթուն անմարմին հրեշտակաց՝ սաղմոսանուագ ձայնիւ ժրաջան աղաւթիւք զցայգ եւ զցերեկ պաշտէր առաջի Տեառն:

31:3 He was innately fond of wilderness living; he led the life that incorporeal angels lead: he spent day and night in psalmody and in silent prayers before the Lord:

31:4 Իսկ Գագիկ յաւուրս մանկութեան իւրոյ, յորժամ շրջէր նա ի գաւառին Գեղամայ, տայ նմա տեղի եւ վանս բնակութեան, զվանսն, որ յաղագս ծագման իրիք լուսոյ աստուածայնոյ՝ Շողագայ անուանի:

31:4 Even in his young years, when Gagik traveled around the Gegham district, he gave Sargis a place of residence in a monastery, which, due to the divine light that shone over him, is called Shoghaga:

31:5 Եւ ապա ի թագաւորելն, բոլոր Հայաստանեայցս՝ դարձեալ ի նոյն տեղի սննդեան իւրոյ, ի վանս Սեւանայ ածեալ՝ զհայրութեան եւ զառաջնորդութեան պատիւն նմա տալ:

31:5 But when Gagik reigned over all of Armenia, Sargis was again returned to the place of his upbringing - to the Sevan monastery, where he received the appointment of abbot and abbot:

31:6 Որ եւ ամենայնիւ յամենայնի ընտիր գտեալ բարւոք վերակացութեամբ՝ հաճոյանայր Աստուծոյ եւ մարդկան:

31:7 Եւ ապա զկնի Տեառն Խաչկայ՝ Գագիկ արքայ Հայոց ժողով եպիսկոպոսաց արարեալ, որ յաշխարհէս Հայոց եւ որ ի Յունաց կողմանէն, որոց գլուխ Տէր Սահակ Արշարունեաց եպիսկոպոս, եւ նստուցանեն զնա յաթոռ կաթողիկոսութեանն մեծաշուք պատուով զկնի զատկին, յաւուր երեքշաբաթւոջ, առանց կաշառոյ եւ այլ երկրաւոր շողոքորթութեանց. զի ոչ ինքն զկնի պատուոյն, այլ պատիւն զկնի ինքեան ընթացաւ:

31:8 Եւ ի փառս առաքելականին ծայրագունին ժամանեալ պատուոյ՝ եկաց ի նոյն միտս ըստ առաջին խոնարհութեանն եւ ոչ փոխեաց զվարս իւր. այլ ըստ Աստուծոյ պատկերեալս՝ առատաձեռն յողորմութիւնս եւ ի խոնարհութեան զարդս, ժրաջան աղաւթիւք ի տուէ եւ ի գիշերի կատարէր զկանոն կարգի կրաւնաւորական սահմանին, պնդութեամբ վարեցեալ եւ պահոցն սրբութեամբ եւ ձեւով մարմնոյ որգունակ սրբոյն Բարսղի յԱստուածաբանէն ներբողեալ:
