19:0 Այն զոր յառաջն յիշատակ արարաք՝ թէ յորժամ իջին ի սահմանս Մանանաղւոյ բաժանեցան յերկուս, առաջինն զայս գործեաց զոր գրեցի. իսկ երկրորդն ձիաթափ արագամէտ ընթացիւք ընդ Հանձէթ եւ ընդ Խորձեան, ո՛չ խոտորելով յաջ կամ յահեակ, այլ որպէս նետ որ ի ձեռաց աղեղնաւորին ելանէ, ուժգին ձգմամբ երթեալ նպատակին հանդիպի. նոյնպէս եւ նոքա, ոչ տալով քուն աչաց եւ նինջ արտեւանաց, գիշերագնաց եղեալ, յանկարծակի յեղակարծումն ժամու իբրեւ զկարկուտ քարախառն՝ հեղան ի վերայ բնակչաց քաղաքին հարաւոյ:

19:0 Earlier we recalled and described what one detachment (of Seljuks), which had come to the borders of Mananaghi and divided, accomplished. Now the second detachment raced its horses through Hanjet’ and Xorjean (districts), turning neither right nor left but heading straight for its target like the powerful thrust of an arrow shot from the bowman’s hand. So (the Seljuks) went at nighttime, never resting, until suddenly, unexpectedly, they fell upon the residents of the southern city like hail mixed with stones:

19:1 Եւ քանզի անպատսպարան վայրս ունէր քաղաքն, վասն այնորիկ ծովային ալեաց նմանեալ բնակչացն՝ ծուփս առեալ յետ յառաջ, բայց ելս իրացն ո՛չ գտանէին։ Աւա՜ղ գործոցն որ յայնժամ անդր գործեցան։ Յորոց վերայ սուր եդեալ անօրինացն՝ կոտորեցին զմայր առ մանկամբ եւ զորդի առաջի հօր. եւ առժամայն եղեւ քաղաքն բարեշէն՝ գուբ արեան:

19:1 Because the city had no place of refuge, the residents could find no way out, like ocean waves, surging back and forth. Alas the deeds then performed in that city! The infidels put swords to work and killed the mother with her child, and the son before his father. And that gloriously fashioned city became a cistern full of blood:

19:2 Եւ քանզի ի սաստիկ խուճապէն, եւ յանկարծահաս օրհասէն մոռացեալ եղեւ սէր սիրելեաց եւ գութ արեան, իւրաքանչիւր ոք հնարէր հայթայթանս գտանել՝ զի թերեւս կարիցէ ապրեցուցանել զինքն ի գեհենաբորբոք բարկութենէն. վասն որոյ փախստական եղեալ ի յայգիսն՝ որ շուրջ զքաղաքաւն էին, յայնս անկեալ ընդ տերեւախիտ որթովքն թաքչէին:

19:2 The extreme suddenness of it, the unexpected anguish caused people to forget their love for dear ones and sympathy for relatives. Each person thought of some way of escape, to perhaps save himself from the burning Gehenna of rage. Consequently, they fled to the vineyards which surrounded the city, and they concealed themselves under the thick leaves of the vines:

19:3 զոր ծանուցեալ անօրինացն, խոյզ արկեալ, աշտէիւք խոցեալ զամենեսեան սատակեցին. որոց արեամբքն ներկեան ողկոյզք խաղողոյն. որք յետոյ սինլքորք մնացեալ էին, զմեռեալս իւրեանց գտանէին ընդ որթովքն, զնոսա ծածկէին ընդ հողով. բայց զայգիսն խղճէին կթել կամ ի խաղողոյն ճաշակել, ասելով թէ մարդոյ արիւնք են ի յուտել:

19:3 The infidels learned about this, searched (the vineyards), and stabbed and killed with lances all (those concealed). The clusters of grapes were stained with their blood. Later on, the surviving dregs (of the city) came forth, located their dead among the vines, and buried them under the earth. Yet their consciences would not allow them to gather or eat those grapes. For they said that those grapes (were filled with) human blood:

19:4 Իսկ անօրինացն պարապեալ ի կոտորածէն, դարձան ի քաղաքն՝ եւ խիլ արկեալ տանցն՝ եթէ ոք զիւր ընչուկն թաքուցեալ էր ուրեք, եւ կամ ի դարանս, մեծաւ հնարագիտութեամբ արտաքս պեղէին:

19:4 Now when the infidels were finished killing, they returned to the city and started searching through the houses. If anyone anywhere or in a secret hiding place had concealed his belongings, (the Seljuks) dug them out with great skill:

19:5 Եւ ապա հուր հարեալ քաղաքին, կիզեալ ապականեցին, եւ առեալ զառ եւ զգերի՝ ելին ի տեղւոջէն։ Նոյնպէս եւ որ շուրջ զնովաւ գիւղք եւ աւանք՝ զամենեսեան ապականեալ սրով եւ հրով եւ գերութեամբ, մինչեւ ոչ մնալ կենդանւոյ ուրուք՝ որ բանայր զբերանն եւ ճիկ հանէր:

19:5 Then they set the city on fire and burned it down, and then, taking booty and captives, they departed. They dealt similarly with the surrounding villages and awans, destroying all of them with fire, sword, and slavery until nowhere was anyone left alive to emit even a feeble cry:
