53:0 Յաղագս կոչելոյ կրկին անգամ Շապուհ արքայի զԱրշակ արքայ Հայոց. եւ նորա երթալոյն, եւ միահաղոյն կորնչելոյն նորա:

53:0 King Shapuh summoned the Armenian king Arshak a second time; how Arshak went to him and was lost for good:
|
53:1 Ապա յետ այսորիկ դարձեալ առաքեաց առ Արշակ արքայ Հայոց Շապուհ արքայ Պարսից, եւ ասէ. Իսկ եթէ հաճ եմք ես եւ դու ընդ միմեանց, եկ տեսցուք զմիմեանս. եւ յայսմ հետէ իբրեւ զհայր եւ զորդի լիցուք ընդ միմեանս:

53:1 Subsequently Shapuh, king of Iran, once more sent to king Arshak of Armenia, saying: “If we are in agreement with each other, come so we may see each other, and henceforth let us be as father and son:
|
53:2 Ապա թէ ոչ տեսանես դու զիս, խնդրես զպատերազմ ի մէջ իմ եւ ի մէջ քո:
|
53:2 But if you do not come to see me, you are asking for more war between us:
|
53:3 Իսկ Արշակ խնդրէր հաւատարիմ երդումն ուխտիւ ի նմանէն, զի յայսմ հետէ անկասկած երթիցէ առ նա:
|
53:3 Now Arshak requested from him a reliable vow with an oath, so that after that he might go to him without suspicion:
|
53:4 Եւ նա ետ բերել` ըստ օրինացն հաւատարիմ երդմանց թագաւորութեանն Պարսից` աղ, կնքել վարազ նկարագիր մատանեաւ, եւ յղեաց:
|
53:4 In accordance with the reliable vowing procedure of the Iranian kingdom, Shapuh had brought to him salt, to seal with a signet-ring bearing a wild boar, and he sent this to Arshak:
|
53:5 Զի թէ իցէ եւ զայն երդման եւս զհետ ոչ եկեսցէ, ապա կազմ լիցի տալ ճակատս պատերազմի ի մէջ իւրեանց:
|
53:5 saying: “If, after receiving this oath you still do not come, then be prepared for war:
|
53:6 Իսկ զայն եւս յորժամ տեսին եւ լուան ամենայն մարդիկն երկրին Հայոց, ստիպեցին բռնազբօսեցին զիւրեանց թագաւորն զԱրշակ եւ շտապեցին, զի յարիցէ գնասցէ երթիցէ յանդիման լիցի թագաւորին Պարսից Շապհոյ:

53:6 Now when all the people of the country of Armenia saw this and heard about it, they pressured and forced their king Arshak to arise and go before Shapuh, the king of Iran:

53:7 Յայնմ հետէ, թէ կամաւ կամաւ` եւ թէ ոչ կամաւ, յարեաւ թագաւորն Հայոց Արշակ, ա՛ռ ընդ իւր զզօրավարն սպարապետն Հայոց զդայեակն իւր, խաղաց գնաց յերկրէն Հայոց յերկիրն Պարսից առ Շապուհ արքայ Պարսից. չոգաւ յանդիման եղեւ թագաւորին Պարսից Շապհոյ:

53:7 After that, willy-nilly, Arshak, the king of Armenia, arose and taking with him the general sparapet of Armenia his dayeak Vasak, he left the country of Armenia and went to the king of Iran, Shapuh, in the country of Iran:

53:8 Իբրեւ տեսին զնոսա, արկին ի շղթայս զերկոսեանն զարքայն Արշակ եւ զսպարապետն Վասակ` եւ պահէին զնոսա արձակ ի մէջ ազատագունդ փուշտիպան զօրացն:

53:8 He went into the presence of king Shapuh of Iran. As soon as they saw them, they threw both of them, king Arshak and sparapet Vasak, into chains and kept them at liberty among the azatagund pustipan troops:

53:9 Եւ կոչեաց արքայ Շապուհ զարքայ Արշակ, եւ իբրեւ զծառայ իւր պատուհասեաց զնա. եւ նա յանցաւոր եւ մահապարտ զանձն իւր առ նա համարեցաւ:

53:9 King Shapuh summoned king Arshak and threatened him as a servant, and Arshak recognized that he had been acting guilty toward him and was worthy of death:

53:10 Դարձեալ անդրէն ի նոյն գունդ փուշտիպանաց ետուն զԱրշակ արքայ ի պահեստ:
|
53:10 And once again they gave king Arshak back to the keeping of the same brigade of pustipans:
