99:0 Վաղվաղակի հրամայէր թագաւորն Վաղարշ, միաբանութեամբ ամենայն աւագանւոյ դրանն եւ Արեաց` հրովարտակ առնել ի Հայս, եւ զտէրն մամիկոնենից եւ զզաւրավարն Հայոց Վահան` մարզպան ի վերայ աշխարհին Հայոց կարգել:

99:0 Then with the unity of all the court nobility and the Aryans, king Vagharsh immediately ordered that a hrovartak be sent to Armenia to establish Vahan, lord of the Mamikoneans and general of Armenia, as marzpan of the land of Armenia:

99:1 Եւ բերեալ զհրովարտակ մարզպանութեանն` տային ցզաւրավարն Հայոց ցտէրն Մամիկոնենից Վահան, եւ աջով հզաւրին Աստուծոյ մարզպան զնա ի վերայ աշխարհին Հայոց կարգեալ հաստատէին:

99:1 Bringing the hrovartak of the marzpanate they presented it to Vahan, Armenia’s general and lord of the Mamikoneans. And through the right-hand of Almighty God they established and confirmed him as marzpan over the land of Armenia:

99:2 Իսկ տէրն Մամիկոնենից Վահան, զաւրավարն Հայոց եւ մարզպան, ընկալեալ զհրովարտակն մարզպանութեանն ի ձեռաց դեսպանին, թէպէտ եւ զխանտածութիւն Հայ
մարդկան ճանաչելով ծանրանայր ընդ իրս` այլ սակայն եւ ոչ ընդդիմանալ հրամանի թագաւորին
իշխէր եւ անհնազանդ լինել:

99:2 Now Vahan, lord of the Mamikoneans, general of Armenia, and marzpan, received the hrovartak of the marzpanate from the hands of the emissary, although he recognized the envy of (certain) Armenian people and was burdened by the matter. Nevertheless, he did not dare to resist the king’s order and be disobedient:

99:3 Առեալ զհրովարտակն` խնդրէր վաղվաղակի անդրուվար` երթալ ի տունն Աստուծոյ:

99:3 Taking the hrovartak, he immediately requested a horse to go to the House of God:
|
99:4 Եւ լուեալ զայս մարդկանն որ ի քաղաքին էին, գրոհ տուեալ առ հասարակ ամենայն մարդոյ, նախարարաց եւ ազատաց, ոստանկաց եւ ռամկաց, արանց եւ կանանց, ծերոց եւ տղայոց, այլ եւ հարսունք անգամ յառագաստաց, մոռացեալ առ վայր մի առ խնդին զամաւթ հարսնութեան` դիմեալ ընթանային յեկեղեցին:

99:4 When the people who were in the city heard this, they also rushed there, one and all—everyone: naxarars and azats, ostaniks and rhamiks, men and women, old and young, and even brides of the nuptial chamber (forgetting for the moment in the jubilation, the modesty of bridehood) hurried to the church:

99:5 Եւ ոչ բաւեալ ընդունել զամենեսեան տանն Աստուծոյ` լնուին արտաքոյ սրահք եկեղեցւոյն եւ փողոցք եւ ամենայն տեղիք հրապարակացն շուրջանակի:

99:5 And the House of God was insufficient to hold all of them. The porticos outside the church, the streets, and all places in the surrounding squares were filled:

99:6 Եւ էր այն աւր անյագ խնդութիւն եւ անսպառ ուրախութիւն աստուածասէր բարեսիրացն եւ ողջախորհուրդ մտաց լաւահայեցաց, եւ սուգ թախանձալից եւ տրտմութիւն անմխիթար` խաւթամտացն եւ խարդախաց:

99:6 That was a day of immeasurable joy and inexhaustible happiness for pious lovers of good and the rationally right-minded people, but (a day) of tearful mourning and unconsolable sorrow for the stupid and the rogues:

99:7 Եւ սրբոյ կաթողիկոսին Հայոց Յովհաննու տեսեալ զանկարծելի աւետաւորութիւնն, շնորհեալ յԱստուծոյ ի ժամանակս երանելւոյն, բերկրեալ ցնծալից սրտիւ` տայր սաղմոսել ի ժամուն. Յեկեղեցիս աւրհնեցէք զԱստուած, եւ զՏէր յաղբերացն Իսրայէլի. եւ կարդացմունս հրամայէր` զտեղի ելիցն Իսրայէլի ի ծառայութենէն Փարաւովնի, եւ ի Թագաւորութենէն` զընթերցուածն` ուր թագաւորեցոյց Դաւիթ զորդին իւր զՍողոմոն:

99:7 When the blessed kat’oghikos of Armenia, Yovhan, saw the unexpected glad tiding, the venerable one thanked God and with a heart breaking with joy he had the psalm read: “Bless God in the great congregation, the Lord, oh you who are of Israel’s fountain” [Psalms 67, 27]. He ordered readings from the passage describing Israel’s deliverance from the servitude of pharaoh, and from Kings, the passage where David crowns his son Solomon as king:

99:8 Եւ եկեալ ինքն ի տեղի լսողութեանն աստիճանին, եւ տուեալ զխաղաղութեան ողջոյնն` ասէ:

99:8 Then (Yovhan) came to the part where he himself was to read. Giving the greeting of peace, he note:
