18:0 Յաղագս Հայր մարդպետին, որ տայր կոտորել զազգս նախարարացն Հայոց:

 18:0 Hayr mardpet who gave over to destruction the lords naxarars of Armenia:

18:1 Բայց յայնմ յանմիտ թագաւորութեանն ժամանակի ոչ միայն թշնամիք թշնամեաց, այլ եւ բարեկամք բարեկամաց եւ ընկերք ընկերաց դաւաճանութիւնս մատնութիւնս սկսան յարուցանել ի մէջ հայաստան երկրին, եւ բեւր ազգի ազգի թշնամութիւնս գործէին:

 18:1 But during the foolish reign of Tiran, not only enemy against enemy, but friend against friend and comrade against comrade were bent on arousing treachery and betrayal in the realm of Armenia, and they worked a myriad of diverse hostile deeds against each other:

18:2 Վասն զի անկաւ ի նոսա խռովութիւն ի տեառնէ, այս պղծութեան եւ ոգի մոլորութեան. զի նախ միմեամբք քանդեալք աւերեցան վասն անօրէնութեան իւրեանց:

 18:2 For the Lord visited agitation upon them for their spirit of abomination and error. Because of their impiety, first they destroyed and ruined each other:

18:3 Բայց քան զամենեսին աւելի այր մի անօրէն եւ այսամուտ, որ աւելի ընդ ազգս նախարարացն գրգռէր զթագաւորն Տիրան:

 18:3 There was one impious and diabolical man who surpassed all the rest, and who aggrevated king Tiran against the naxarar azgs:

18:4 Այս ինքն որ ունէր զպատիւն մեծի մարդպետութեանն, այր ներքինի` չարասիրտ չարախորհուրդ չարագործ, որում Հայր կոչէին:

 18:4 This was the eunuch Hayr, who held the patiw of the great mardpetutiwn, a wicked-hearted, malicious malefactor:

18:5 Զբազումս ի նախարարացն ետ քսութեամբ առանց վնասու կոտորել, եւ խանգարեաց զմեծ տէրութիւն թագաւորութեանն:

 18:5 Through slander he effected the destruction of many naxarars who had worked no crime, and he disrupted the great lordship of the kingdom:

18:6 Մանաւանդ աւելի զերկու տոհմսն զաւագս տայր իւրով չարախօսութեամբ հանել ընդ սուր, եւ անունդ առնել միահաղոյն զտոհմսն Ռըշտունեաց եւ զտոհմն Արծրունեաց. բառնային ի միջոյ առանց ամենայն վնասու եւ յանցման, մինչ անգամ եւ զէգսն կոտորեցին ազգացն:

 18:6 In particular through his slander he managed to have two senior tohms - the Rheshtunik tohm and the Arcrunik tohm- - put to the sword and almost entirely wiped out, without them committing any crime or fault, and they even destroyed the women of those azgs:

18:7 Յայնմ ժամանակի ի գայթակղի գտանէին ի դայեակս մանկունս փախստեայս, զՏաճատ որդի Մեհընդակայ ըռըշտունւոյ. եւ միւս եւս Շաւասպ որդի Վաչէի արծրունւոյ. տղայք ստնդիայք, զոր ածին առաջի թագաւորին:

 18:7 Then two children, caught in the scandal, had found refuge by fleeing to dayeaks; one was Tachat, the son of Mehendak Erheshtunik, the other, Shawasp, son of Vache Arcrunik, both suckling children. They were brought before the king:

18:8 Իբրեւ տեսանէր, տայր հրաման հանել փողոտել զմանկունսն. զի նոքա եւեթ ճետք մնացեալ էին յազգացն:

 18:8 When Tiran saw them, he ordered that they be beheaded for they were the only progeny of those azgs:

18:9 Եւ անդ դիպեալ Արտաւազդ եւ Վասակ, արք ի մամիկոնեան տոհմէն, որք էին զօրավարք ամենայն զօրացն Հայոց, որք յարուցեալք անկան ի վերայ մանկանցն տղայոց, մէն մի յանթի հարեալք` ի դուրս գնացին. զէնն ի վեր առեալք, կռուոյ պատրաստէին` ի վերայ այնց մանկանց մեռանել:

 18:9 Now it happened that Artawazd and Vasak, men of the Mamikonean tohm, were present. They were generals of the entire Armenian troops. They jumped up, seized the little boys, each one taking one under his arm, and rushed out with their weapons aloft, ready to fight and die for those children:

18:10 Զի թէպէտ եւ սնուցանէին նոքա զորդին զարքային զԱրշակ, սակայն զչարեալք ընդ գործ ժամանակին` թողին զսանն իւրեանց զԱրշակ, եւ գնացին ի բաց ի բանակէն արքունի:

 18:10 Although the Mamikoneans had been raising Arshak, the king’s son, nonetheless, angered at the deeds of that time, they left their charge, Arshak, and quit the royal banak:

18:11 Եւ չոգան յաշխարհն իւրեանց յամուրս Տայոց. եւ անդ նստան ամս բազումս ընտանեօք իւրեանց, եւ թողին զայլ զտուն իւրեանց:

 18:11 They went to their land, to the strongholds of Tayk, remaining there many years with their families, leaving their other home:

18:12 Եւ սնուցանէին զայն մանկունսն, զՇաւասպն եւ զՏաճատ. եւ ետուն նոցա զդստերս իւրեանց ի կնութեան, ուստի դարձեալ միւսանգամ ազգն այն սերեցան. եւ ոչ խառնէին նոքա ի խորհուրդս Հայոց մինչեւ ի բազում ամս:

 18:12 They raised those children, Shawasp and Tachat, married their daughters to them, and regenerated those azgs. And they did not participate in Armenian councils for many years:
