59:1 Իսկ յամին եաւթնեւտասներորդի Յազկերտի արքայի իշխանն Վրաց Աշուշայ աղաչէր զաւագս դրանն արքունի, բազում եւ անհամար կարասի ծախեալ իւրաքանչիւր ումեք, եւ մանաւանդ առաւել անաւրէն հազարապետին Միհրներսեհի. զոր մեծաւ ջանիւ եւ սաստիկ աշխատութեամբ հաւանեցուցեալ` տայր ասել ցթագաւորն Յազկերտ, զի շնորհեսցէ նմա զորդիս երանելւոյ նահատակին Հմայեկայ, ի տոհմէն Մամիկոնէից, զորս առեալ էր նենգաւոր իշխանին Սիւնեաց Վասակայ ի դայեկաց` որպէս զորդիս մահապարտաց, եւ տարեալ էր ի դուռն, զի մեռցին. որք էին յոյժ տղայք:

59:1 In the seventeenth year of king Yazkert [A.D. 456] the Iberian (Georgian) prince Ashusha (after spending an incalculable amount on each person and especially on the impious hazarapet Mihrnerseh) beseeched the court nobility, and convinced them after great effort, to get them to say to king Yazkert that he should be favored with the sons of the venerable champion Hmayeak of the Mamikonean tohm (whom Vasak, the treacherous prince of Siwnik’, had taken from their dayeaks as the sons of people condemned to death and had taken to court to be killed). They were extremely young:

59:2 Եւ մարդասիրին Աստուծոյ, բարեխաւսութեամբ սրբոյ արեան հարց նոցա, հաւանեցուցեալ զմիտս թագաւորին` պարգեւեաց Աշուշայի, որպէս կարի առն սիրելւոյ եւ վաստակաւորի` զանհաւատալի ամենեցուն զմեծ նորա խնդիրն:

59:2 Humane God, through the intercession of the holy blood of his fathers, persuaded the king to bestow upon Ashusha his great request, which was more unbelievable than all others, since (Ashusha) was a very dear and deserving man:

59:3 Եւ Աշուշայի տեսեալ զայն եւ ընկալեալ ի թագաւորէն զմեծն պարգեւ` յարուցեալ ի խորանին առաջի ամենեցուն անկեալ յերկիր հոլովէր այսր եւ անդր, եւ ապա հարկանէր զգլուխ ի գետինն. այսպէս կատարէր զերկրպագութիւնն:

59:3 When Ashusha saw this and received the great gift from the king, he went into the palace and, in front of everyone fell to the ground, turning this way and that, and then hitting his head against the ground:

59:4 Եւ տեսեալ զայս թագաւորին եւ ամենեցուն որ ի խորանին էին, եւ զարմացեալք մեծապէս, թէ զի՛նչ արար այրն, հարցանէր ցնա թագաւորն, թէ «Վրաց բդեշխ, զի՞նչ է այդ նոր իմն գործ, զոր ցուցեր դու մեզ այսաւր:

59:4 Thus, did he adore (him). When the king and everyone in the palace observed this, they were greatly astonished, wondering what the man was doing. The king asked him: “Bdeshx of Iberia, what is that new thing you are showing us today:

59:5 Եւ պատասխանի տուեալ Աշուշայի` ասաց, թէ «Բարերար արքայ, դուք ինձ նոր պարգեւ շնորհեցէք, զոր այլ իմ ընկերաց ծառայի ի ձէնջ չէր գտեալ. եւ ինձ արժանի է նոր երկրպագութեամբ երկիր պագանել ձեզ, զոր ձեր յայլ ծառայէ զայնպիսի երկրպագութիւն երբէք չէր տեսեալ:

59:5 Ashusha replied: “Benevolent king, you have bestowed upon me a new favor which none of my comrades who serve you have ever received. Therefore, it is fitting that I adore you with a new type of reverence, something you have never seen from your other servants:

59:6 Եւ լուեալ զայսպիսի բանս թագաւորին յԱշուշայէ եւ ամենայն բազմութեան աւագանւոյն՝ յոյժ գովեցին զայրն եւ մեծապէս զարմացան:

59:6 When the king and the entire multitude of the nobility heard such words from Ashusha, they praised the man greatly and were astounded:
