22:0 The murder of Vndoy. The flight and rebellion of Vstam, and his going to the regions of the Parthians:

22:1 Յայնմ ժամանակի արկ ի միտս իւր Խոսրով արքայն՝ խնդրել զքէն վրիժուց մահուան հաւր իւրոյ ի ձեռաց նախարարացն այնոցիկ, որք սպանին զնա: Եւ նախ կամի դատել զքեռիս իւր: Հրաման տայ ունել զՎնդոյ, զայն որ վերագոյն ասացի, կապել եւ սպանել: Իսկ եղբայր նորա Վստամ ոչ հանդիպեցաւ ի ժամուն յայնմիկ ի դրանն արքունի:

22:1 At that time king Khosrov decided to seek vengeance for the death of his father from those nobles who had killed him. First, he wished to condemn his maternal uncles. He commanded Vndoy, the one I mentioned above, to be arrested, bound and killed. But his brother Vstam did not happen to be at the royal court at that time:

22:2 Եւ թէպէտ եւ կոչեալ պատրանաւք եւ բազում ողոքանաւք, իբր թէ ոչ գիտիցէ նա զմահ եղբաւրն իւրոյ, սակայն նա ուստեմն իրազեկ եղեալ՝ ոչ անկանէր ի պատրանս խաբէութեան նորա, այլ ապստամբեալ անկանէր յամուր երկիրն Գեղմայ, եւ գումարեալ նուաճէր ընդ ինքեան զամենայն զաւրս նոցա:

22:2 Although he summoned him deceitfully with many entreaties, as if he were unaware of the death of his brother, nonetheless he was informed somehow and did not fall into his deceitful trap, but rebelled and took refuge in the inaccessible land of Gełam. He gathered all their troops and put them under his own command:

22:3 Եւ ելեալ ի կողմն Ռէոյ ասպատակաւ, եւ աւար հարկանէր զամենայն զբազում աշխարհս թագաւորութեանն Պարսից: Յայնժամ արքայն Խոսրով առնոյր զզաւրս իւր եւ գնայր ի վերայ նորա. եւ զաւր կայսերն էր ընդ նմա: Եւ մարտ եդեալ կռուով ընդ միմեանս յՌէհ աշխարհին: Եւ յայնմ պատերազմի ոչ փոքր ինչ քաջութիւն գործեալ հայակոյտ զաւրացն. զոր տեսեալ թագաւորն՝ առաւել զարմանայր:

22:3 Going to the area of Ṙeyy on a raid he plundered all the many lands of the Persian empire. Then king Khosrov took his own army and went to attack him; the emperor’s army was with him. There was a pitched battle between them in the land of Ṙeyy. In that battle the Armenian troops performed no few acts of valour, on seeing which the king was even more astonished:

22:4 Իսկ իբրեւ ոչ կարաց ընդդէմ ժուժկալել ապստամբն՝ ի լեռնակողմն ապաւինեալ ամրանայր: Եւ այնպէս ոչ յաղթահարեալք ի միմեանց՝ ի բաց դառնային յիւրաքանչիւր տեղի: Գնայր եւ ապստամբն Վստամն յամուր յերկիրն Գեղմայ, որ եւ ապա անտի չու արարեալ երթայր ի կողմանս Պարթեւաց, ի բուն երկիրն իւրոյ իշխանութեանն, զի նուաճեցուսցէ ընդ ինքեան զզաւրս կողմանն այնորիկ եւ դարձցի նոյնպէս:

22:4 Now because the rebel could not resist, he took refuge in the mountainous territory where he entrenched himself. In this way neither side defeated the other, so they returned to their own territory. The rebel Vstam went to the secure land of Gełam, and then from there he journeyed to the regions of the Parthians, to the original land of his own principality, in order to bring under his own control the troops of that region and having been thus (reinforced) to return:

22:5 Եւ թագաւորին չու արարեալ յԱսորեստան՝ հասանէր ի բուն կայեանս իւրոյ արքունականս, եւ իշխանք նախարարացն Հայոց ընդ նմա:

22:5 The king marched to Asorestan and reached his own royal residence, accompanied by the princes of the Armenian nobles:
