27:1 Այլ երանելին սուրբն Եպիփան էր ընդ սրբոյն Շաղիտայի աշակերտ եղեալ մեծին Դանիէլի. եւ սա ի մանկութենէ սնեալ էր յանապատի:

 27:1 Blessed Saint Epiphanes was a companion of Saint Shaghita and a disciple of the great Daniel; he, too, grew up in the desert from childhood:

27:2 Եւ յետ մահուանն մեծի քահանայապետին Ներսիսի եկն բնակեցաւ նա ի մեծ Ծոփս յանապատին, որ կոչի անուն տեղւոյն Մամբրէ, ի վերայ գետոյն` որ անուանեալ կոչի Մամուշեղ:

 27:2 After the death of the great high priest Nerses, he settled in Metz-Tsopka, in a desert area named Mambre, on a river named Mamusheg:

27:3 Եւ էր բնակեալ ի քարանձաւս, եւ հանապազորդեալ էր ընդ գազանս անապատի, եւ ժողովէին առ նա արջք եւ ինձք:

 27:3 He lived in caves, constantly stayed with the animals of the desert, and bears and leopards gathered to him:

27:4 Եւ էր սա հանապազորդեալ յանապատին, եւ առնէր սա մեծամեծ նշանս եւ սքանչելիս. եւ դարձուցանէր զբազում մոլորեալս ի հեթանոսութենէ ի քրիստոնէութիւն, եւ լնոյր զերկիրն Ծոփաց վանիւք. եւ դնէր վարժեար ընդ ամենայն երկիրն Ծոփաց, եւ լինէր սուրբն Եպիփան լոյս երկրին Ծոփաց, եւ լուսաւորէր զնոսա մեծապէս:

 27:4 He was always in the desert, performed great signs and wonders, converted many of the lost from paganism to Christianity, he set up monasteries in the country of Tsopk, appointed teachers everywhere in the country of Tsopk, and Saint Epiphan was a light for the country of Tsopk and enlightened the people in every way:

27:5 Անցանէր եւ յերկիրն Աղձնեաց, լուսաւորէր եւ զնոսա, եւ լնոյր զերկիրն Աղձնեաց վաներով. եւ շինէր վկայանոց մի յաւանին ի քաղաքին Տիգրանակերտի, եւ յօր յիշատակի սրբոցն ի փրկութիւն եւ ի բարեխօսութիւն աշխարհի. եւ առնէր ինքն նշանս, եւ դառնայր ինքն յիւր վանսն:

 27:5 He also went to the country of Aldznik, enlightened there; set up monasteries in the country of Aldznik and built a chapel in the name of the martyrs in the city of Tigranakert, and there they commemorated the saints so that the country would be saved by their intercession, he also performed miracles and returned to his home:

27:6 Եւ էր մօտ ի գետն Մամուշեղ աղբեւր մի, եւ ձուկն բազում ելանէր ընդ ակն աղբերն. եւ բազում մարդիկ հանեալ զձուկն, օգտէին ի նմանէ:

 27:6 And there was a spring near the Mamushel River, from the sources of which a lot of fish came out, and many people caught this fish and used it:

27:7 Ապա երկու եղբարք ի վերայ ձկանն հակառակեալք, եսպան մինն զմինն. եւ իբրեւ գիտաց սուրբն Եպիփան, ասէ. Յայսմ հետէ այտի ոք ձուկն մի՛ կերիցէ:

 27:7 One day two brothers quarreled among themselves over a fish, and one killed the other. Epiphanes, hearing about this, note: “From now on, let no one eat fish from there:

27:8 Եւ անդէն դառնացաւ ձուկն տեղւոյն, եւ եղեւ իբրեւ զլեղի դառն մինչեւ ցայսօր ժամանակի. եւ ոչ ոք որսաց զնա մինչեւ ցայսօր ժամանակի:

 27:8 And now the fish is rancid there, like bile, and it is bitter to this day, and no one catches fish there now:

27:9 Բազում եւ այլ զօրութիւնս առնէր եւ նշանս անչափս:

 27:9 He performed many other miracles and signs:

27:10 Իբրեւ բազում կարգս ուղղութեան թողոյր ի գաւառսն յայնոսիկ սուրբն Եպիփան, իսկ նա էառ ընդ իւր զաշակերտսն իւր արս միանձունս լեառնականս անապատականս, արս հինգ հարիւր, երթալ գնալ յերկիրն Յունաց:

 27:10 In these gavars, Saint Epiphanes established proper orders, and himself, taking his hermit disciples who lived in the mountains and deserts, five hundred people, went to the Greek country:

27:11 Եւ մինչ դեռ երթային, ի ճանապարհին դիպեցաւ նոցա կին մի. իբրեւ անցին ընդ կինն, սկսաւ փորձել զնոսա Եպիփան, ասէ. Իբրեւ զի՛ գեղեցիկ էր կինն եւ վայելուչ:

 27:11 On the way, as they were walking, they met a woman alone. Passing by the woman, Epiphan began to test the disciples and note: “What a beautiful and pleasant woman:

27:12 Ասէ մանուկ մի յաշակերտաց անտի. Կինն, զոր դու գովեցեր, միականի էր:

 27:12 One of the young disciples said, “The woman you praised was blind in one eye:

27:13 Եւ ասէ սուրբն Եպիփան. Դու բնաւ ընդէ՞ր նայեցար տեսանել զերեսս նորա. տեսանե՞ս զի խորհուրդք չարք կան ի քեզ:

 27:13 Saint Epiphan note: “And why did you look at her face; it is clear that you have unclean thoughts:

27:14 Եւ անդէն մեկնեաց զմանուկն յիւրմէ, եւ հալածեաց զնա:

 27:14 And now he removed this young man from himself and drove him away:

27:15 Եւ ինքն չոգաւ եմուտ ի ծով մեծ, եւ նաւօք անցին յանապատ ի կղզիս. եւ ունէր զկղզին զայն օձից բազմութիւնք, եւ էին յայնմ կղզւոջ բնակեալ օձք իժք եւ քարբք, բազում գազանք դաժանք թունաւորք:

 27:15 He came to the big sea himself, and they crossed to a deserted island on ships. This island was full of snakes; vipers and basilisks lived there, as well as many fierce poisonous animals:

27:16 Եւ եղեւ իբրեւ չոգան, եհաս սուրբն Եպիփան ի կղզին յայն, մերժեցան անտի գազանքն, եւ թողին զկղզին եւ գնացին:

 27:16 Upon the arrival of Saint Epiphanes on this island, the animals withdrew from there, left the island and left:

27:17 Եւ այնուհետեւ ոչ ինչ վնաս եղեւ նոցա ի կղզւոջն յայնմիկ, այլ բնակեցան անդ խաղաղութեամբ:

 27:17 After that, no harm was done to them, and they lived there peacefully. There:

27:18 Անդ եկեաց սուրբն Եպիփան, անդէն ի նմին կղզւոջ հանգեաւ:

 27:18 Saint Epiphanes began to live there and died on the same island:
