27:0 Կայ եւս մեզ դառնալ յառաջին շարս կարգի պատմութեանս:

 27:0 Let us return to the previous strand of our historical narration:

27:1 Քանզի մինչդեռ Մրուան ունէր զիշխանութիւնն Իսմայելի, եւ մարտնչէր ընդ իւր ազգին՝ դարձեալ այլ մոլեկան հուր հրդեհի բորբոքէր ի կողմանց արեւելից յերկրէն Խորասան աշխարհին:

 27:1 Now it happened that while Marwan still held the caliphate and was fighting with his own clan members, once again the fanatical flame of that fire (of rebellion) blazed out in the eastern areas, in the land of Khurasan:

27:2 Քանզի իբրեւ տեսին ամենայն նախարարարք որդւոցն Իսմայելի, զի զօրացաւ ի վերայ նոցա անհանդուրժելի վտանգ յիւրեանցայոցն՝ ջանային զապրիլ անձանց գտանել. յորոց ոմանք ի նոյն տոհմէ օրէնսդրին իւրեանց հատուածեալք՝ փախստեայ անկանէին ի Խորասան յաշխարհն եւ թագստեամբ կէին անդ ժամանակս ինչ:

 27:2 When all the lords of the sons of Ishmael observed the unbearable danger which had increased amongst them, they tried to save their own lives. Thus, some of those who were of the clan of their lawgiver (Muhammad) separated from the rest and went as fugitives to the land of Khurasan and concealed themselves there for a while:

27:3 Ապա յետ այնորիկ միաբանեալ զզօրս Խորասան աշխարհին՝ կացուցանէին զօրավարս ի վերայ նոցա զԿահաթբա եւ զԱբուՄսլիմ ոմն, որ էր խորամանկ աստեղագիտական աղանդովն:

 27:3 Subsequently they unified the Khurasanian troops, placing as general over themselves Kahat’ba and a certain Abu Muslim who was artful in the heresy of astrology:

27:4 Եւ սոքա միաբանեալք սպանին զհրամանատար աշխարհին, եւ զզօրս նորա յինքեանս դարձուցեալ եւ գայլ բազմութիւն խառնիճաղանճիցն աշխարհին, որք տագնապեալք էին յանհնարին բռնութենէ հարկապահանջիցն՝ սկսան տակաւ յարձակիլ ի կողմանս Ասորեստանի. որոց ընդդէմ երթեալ զօրքն Մրուանայ՝ ոչ կարէին զդէմ ունել այնմ ամբոխին, զի ի տեառնէ էր խորտակումն իշխանութեան նորա:

 27:4 They united and slew the leader of the land and attracted their troops to their own side as well as many from the rabble who were suffering from unbelievably stringent tax demands. Then they began to attack from the side of Syria. When Marwan’s forces went against them, they were unable to prevail against that mob. For the destruction of his power derived from the Lord:

27:5 Եւ զբազումս հարեալ սատակէին եւ զայլսն փախստական առնէին գունդք Աբդլայիցն որ կոչին որդիք Հեշմայ: Եւ ինքեանք յառաջ մատուցեալ՝ անցանէին ընդ գետն Տիգրիս, եւ նուաճէին զբազում քաղաքս հնազանդեալ ընդ նոքօք. եւ զամենայն զօրս զոր միանգամ առաքէր Մրուան ընդդէմ նոցա՝ խորտակեալ ջախջախէին, եւ զմեծ բանակետղն Տաճկաց Ակողա զամենեսեան հնազանդէին:

 27:5 They struck and killed many of them while others fled. The troops of Abdullah (were the attackers) and they were called the sons of Hashim. Continuing to advance, they crossed the Tigris River, conquering and subduing many cities. Meanwhile all the troops that Marwan sent against them were decisively crushed, and (the Abbasid rebels) subdued everyone as far as the great Tachik military camp of al-Kufa (Akogha:

27:6 Իսկ բնակչացն Ակողայ եւ Բասրայ տեսեալ զբռնութիւն զօրութեան նոցա՝ ձեռնտու եղեն եւ յաւելան ի զօրս նոցա: Զոր զգացեալ Մրուան՝ տագնապաւ մեծաւ վարանէր, եւ բացեալ զխանութս գանձուցն արքունեաց՝ սփռէր զօրացն: Եւ վառեալ զինքն բազմութեամբ զօրացն՝ ելանէր ընդդէմ նոցա:

 27:6 As for the residents of al-Kufa and Basra, when they saw the (army’s) brutal power, they cooperated and added to their forces. When Marwan realized what was unfolding, he was plunged into a great panic, opened the royal treasury, and distributed it to his troops. Surrounding himself with soldiers, he arose against (the Abbasids:

27:7 Եւ իբրեւ հասանէին առ միմեանս եւ յարդարէին ճակատ առ ճակատ եւ խառնէր պատերազմն՝ բազումք լինէին վիրաւորք ի կողմանցն երկոցունց, եւ անթիւ դիակունք դաշտացն տապաստ անկանէին. եւ յերկարաձգէր պատերազմն ի մէջ երկոցունց մինչեւ ի գլուխ ելանել ամին այնմիկ:

 27:7 The two sides drew near to each other and deployed brigade against brigade. When they clashed in battle many were wounded on both sides and innumerable corpses fell on the field of battle. There was protracted warfare between the two sides until the next year:

27:8 Իսկ ի վերանալ յամին վեցերորդի իշխանութեանն Մրուանայ՝ հասանէր ի վերայ նորա վրէժխնդրութիւն Աստուծոյ, խնդրել ի ձեռանէ նորա զարիւն զոր եհեղ յազգէն իւրմէ:

 27:8 At the end of the sixth year of Marwan’s reign, God’s retribution was visited upon him as his own blood was demanded for the blood of the kinsfolk he had shed:

27:9 Եւ զօրացեալ զօրք Աբդլայի՝ յարձակէին ի վերայ նորա գազանաբար, դիմեալ հասանէին ի բանակն Մրուանայ, եւ հարեալ սատակէին ի նոցունց հարուածս սաստիկս յոյժ յոյժ: Զի ասեն լինել զթիւ անկելոցն ի միում նուագի [ՅՌ] արանց հեծելոց, մինչեւ գնալ յարենէն վտակք առուաց, եւ ի գոլորշիս արեանն լինել մէգ եւ մութ ամբաւ:

 27:9 Now the troops of Abdullah grew (even) stronger and attacked with bestial ferocity, reaching Marwan’s camp. They slaughtered them so severely that it was said that some [300,000] cavalry were killed and that their blood flowed in streams which evaporated into a dark fog:

27:10 Եւ զմնացորդս զօրուն առեալ արկին ի մէջ բանակի Մրուանայ. եւ հասանէին մինչեւ ի դղեկաձեւ կազմած պարտակին եւ ի վրանն Մրուանայ, եւ զնա ինքն հարեալ սատակէին: Եւ զայս ամենայն չարիս եւ զդրդմունս պատերազմաց եւ զառմունս քաղաքաց եւ հեղմունս արեանց կատարեալ ամս [Զ]՝ վախճանի:

 27:10 The remnants of his troops were forced back and trapped in Marwan’s camp. (The Abbasids) then advanced to the fortress-like base and the very tent of Marwan where (Marwan) himself was seized and killed. All these evil (events)—the disruptions of war, the capture of cities, and the shedding of blood—transpired during the six years of (Marwan’s) reign, after which he died:
