61:0 Յաղագս ապստամբելոյ Յուսփայ, եւ ոստիկանութեան Ըսբուքայ, եւ գործոց նորին:

 61:0 The Rise of Yusuf in Rebellion; The Appointment of Subuki as Ostikan, and the Works of the Latter:

61:1 Բայց փոքր ինչ յառաջ քան զայս ոստիկանն Յուսուփ ապստամբութեամբ բազմաւ ընդվզեալ յԻսմայէլեան ամիրապետէ եւ ի պարարտութենէ պորտոյն անգուշեալ՝ առաքէ ապա զոմն ի նախարարաց իւրոց ամիրապետն անհուն իմն զօրօք հրոսակ նմա, որ թէպէտ եւ զմի նուագ եւ զերկուս ընդդէմ զինեալ՝ հարուածս ի վերայ արքունի զօրացն հասուցանէր. սակայն ոչ կարացեալ զդէմ ունել՝ ձերբակալ զնա առնէին, խաղացուցեալ տարեալ կապանօք վարեալ առ ամիրապետն:

 61:1 A short time before this, the ostikan rose in rebellion against the Ishmaelite caliph, who, prevented by his fat belly, sent one of his ministers (naxarar) against him with a great force. Although Yusuf was able to raise arms and inflict blows on the royal forces more than once, he was unable to stand against them, and was seized and brought before the caliph in fetters:

61:2 Եւ այսպէս յայց ելեալ շնորհացն Աստուծոյ՝ փրկեաց զթագաւորն Գագիկ ի գազանական չարաբարոյ սպառնալեաց նորա:

 61:2 Thus, the grace of God called upon king Gagik, and saved him from the ostikan’s ferocious and wicked threats:

61:3 Բայց իբրեւ կալան զՅուսուփ ըմբռնեալ լինէր յամիրապետէ անտի. ապա ոմն ի ծառայիցն յաւէտ իմն ի պատուաւորաց՝ Սբուկ անուն, որ իշխան եւ հրամատար էր ամենայն տան նորա, բռնազբօսաբար տիրէր աշխարհի տէրութեան Յուսփայ:

 61:3 But as soon as Yusuf was seized by the caliph, one of his (Yusuf’s) most venerable servants, a man by the name of Subuki, who had been set up as prince and commander over his entire house-hold, ruled over his domain by force, and after a short time was designated by the caliph as ostikan in place of Yusuf:

61:4 Եւ յետ սակաւ աւուրց ապա եւ յամիրապետէն իսկ փոխանակ Յուսփայ ոստիկան հաստատեցաւ: Եւ ապա նա եւս առաւել քան զՅուսուփ ըստ նմին սակի դնէր ուխտ միաբանական խաղաղութեան ընդ Աշոտի, եւ Շահանշահ զնա անուանէր:

 61:4 Subsequently, the latter, rather than Yusuf, made a treaty of peaceful coexistence with Ashot on the same terms, and granted him the title of shahanshah:

61:5 Բայց ոստիկանն Սբուկ դեռեւս ոչ մոռացեալ ի սրտէ զմախանս չար թունիցն, զոր ի թագաւորն Գագիկ հնարէին միշտ թափել՝ յետ ոչ բազում ինչ աւուրց հորդան իւրոյ զօրուն տուեալ, առաքէ զկողմամբք Ճուաշ գաւառի:

 61:5 But the ostikan Subuki, who still had not forgotten in his heart the wicked venom of envy, which they always tried to shed on king Gagik, marshalled his forces a few days later, and sent them to the region of the district of Chuash:

61:6 Որ թէպէտ բնակիչք գաւառին իրազգած յառաջագոյն չար հինին լինէին. սակայն ոչ կարացեալ սպառ սպուռ գաղթիլ յամրոցսն, նոքա իբրեւ զկայծակն ի վերայ հասեալ եւ ասպատակս ընդ երեսս գաւառին սփռեալ՝ բազում աւարառութեամբ կապուտ կողոպուտ առնէին:

 61:6 Although the inhabitants of the district had been previously aware of the wicked incursion of the enemy, they had been unable to migrate totally to the fortresses, before the enemy came upon them like lightning, and plundering the entire extent of the district, took much booty:

61:7 այլ եւ զոչ կարացեալսն աճապարել անկանել յամրոցս վայրացն ի գերութիւն վարէին զներգեւեալ արսն եւ զկանայս եւ զմատաղ մանկտի:

 61:7 Also they took captive the enfeebled men, women and young children, who had been unable to make haste in finding asylum in the fortresses:

61:8 Իսկ ապա զայն տեսեալ թագաւորին Գագկայ եւ ըստ հանճարագիտութեան իւրում ի մտի եդեալ զոչ կարօղելն կալ ընդդէմ Սբուկայ մարտիւ պատերազմի՝ ի հնազանդութեան պայման ընդ նմա զբանս իւր փոխաբերէ:

 61:8 But when king Gagik saw this, he wisely reasoned that he could not prevail against Subuki in battle, and opened negotiations with the latter for terms of submission:

61:9 Եւ ապա զոմն Գէորգ Հաւնունի ի կրօնաւորական կարգէ բազում ընծայիւ քեւ պատարագօք առ ոստիկանն Սբուկ առաքէ, խնդրելով զհաշտութիւն առ ի նմանէ. որոյ առեալ եւ ընկալեալ՝ տայ յետկար երդման ոչ եւս յաւելուլ կալ ի նոյն ոխո՛ր միտս ընդ թագաւորին:

 61:9 Thereupon, he sent a certain Georg Hawnuni, a man of clerical rank, to the ostikan Subuki with many gifts and prizes, and sought terms of peace. The ostikan accepted the gifts and made a solemn oath to cease holding the same spiteful grudge against the king:

61:10 Եւ դադարեալ այսպէս ասպատակ հինին՝ հարթայարմար հանգչէին յաշխարհ տէրութեան թագաւորին Գագկայ ի կայս հանգստեան իւրեանց՝ յապահովացեալք յարտաքնոց յայնցանէ հրոսակաց:

 61:10 Thus, the incursions of the enemy were stopped, and the domain of king Gagik enjoyed a life of peace and tranquillity, safe from the attacks of outsiders:
