21:1 Իսկ յետ ընդունելոյ զթուղթս զայս՝ ամաւթալից լինէր մետրապաւլիտն այն: Բայց ոչ ինչ թուլացաւ յիւրմէ չարութենէն:

21:1 The Metropolitan, having received this message, although he was covered with shame, did not give up his malice:

21:2 Այլ ի նմին ամի առաքեաց զնա թագաւորն Վասիլ յաշխարհն Բուլղարաց՝ խաղաղութիւն առնել:

21:2 In the same year, King Basil sent him to the country of Sebasteia to establish peace:

21:3 Եւ նոցա խնդրեալ զքոյր թագաւորին Վասլի ի հարսնութիւն ինքեանց, եւ տուեալ թագաւորին կին մի ի ծառայից իւրոց ի կերպ քեռն իւրոյ, առաքեաց ի ձեռն մետրապաւլտին: Եւ յերթալն յաշխարհն Բուլղարաց՝ ծանեան զկինն զայն, եւ դատեալ զմետրապաւլիտն իբրեւ զշուն եւ խաբեբայ՝ ցաւղուն եւ ժժան պատեալ զնովաւ՝ հրով տոչորեցին թագաւորքն Բուլղարաց:

21:3 Sebasteiaia asked King Basil to give his sister in marriage to her King. The emperor, accompanied by the metropolitan, sent (to the Sebasteia) some woman from his subjects, who looked like his sister. Upon the arrival of that woman in the land of Sebasteia, they found out who she was, and therefore they condemned the metropolitan as an adulterer and a deceiver; the kings of Sebasteiaia burned it, overlaying it with brushwood and straw:

21:4 Զի էին նոքա երկու եղբարք, որք Կոմսաձագքն կոչէին, անուն երիցուն Սամուէլ, յազգէս Հայոց, ի գաւառէն Դերջանայ, զոր ընդ գունդս սաղարացն տարեալ էր զնոսա թագաւորն Վասիլ ի Մակեդոնիա պատերազմել ընդ Բուլղարացն. որոց ի դիպող ժամու ապստամբեալ ի թագաւորէն Յունաց՝ գնացին առ թագաւորն Բուլղարաց, որ էր կուրտ, եւ ըստ քաջութեան իւրեանց մեծացան յաչս նորա:

21:4 this was done by two brothers called Komsajagks, of whom the eldest, an Armenian from the Derjan district, was called Samuel. Emperor Basil led both of them with his regiments of guards to Macedonia for a war against the Sebasteia. Taking advantage of the opportunity, they broke away from the Greek emperor, went over to the king of Sebasteia, a eunuch, and, like brave men, achieved high honors at his court:

21:5 Եւ ապա յետ այսորիկ թագաւորն Յունաց Վասիլ ի պատերազմի կալաւ զթագաւորն Բուլղարաց զկուրտն՝ զներքինին: Իսկ Կոմսաձագքն տիրեալ ի վերայ աշխարհին Բուլղարաց՝ ընդդէմ կացին խիստ մարտիւք թագաւորին Յունաց, զոր ըստ ժամանակին ասասցուք:

21:5 After that, the Greek king Basil took the Sebasteia’ king, the eunuch, in the war; and the Komsajagks, having taken possession of the whole Sebasteia country, rebelled with a cruel war against the Greek emperor, which we will tell about in due time:
