13:1 Իսկ թագաւորն Տրդատիոս հանդերձ միաբանութեամբ կնաւ իւրով Աշխէն տիկնաւ, եւ քերբ իւրով Խոսրովիդխտով, հրաման ետ ի ժողով կոչել միաբանութեամբ ամենայն զաւրաց իւրոց:

13:1 King Tiridates together with his wife, the [tikin] queen Ashxe’n and his sister Xosroviduxt, gave an order that an assembly be convened of all his forces:

13:2 Եւ վաղվաղակի հասանէին ի ժամադիրն յամենայն կողմանց ըստ հրամանին՝ յԱյրարատ գաւառն ի Վաղարշապատ քաղաք:

13:2 Then at once from all sides, in accordance with the order, people came to assemble in the city of Vagharshapat in the district of Ayrarat:

13:3 Քանզի թագաւորն չու արարեալ անդր հասանէր:
|
13:3 The king also went there:
|
13:4 Եւ կուտեցան առ հասարակ զաւրքն ամենայն, եւ մեծամեծք եւ կուսակալք, գաւառակալք, պատուաւորք, պատուականք, զաւրավարք, պետք եւ իշխանք, նախարարք եւ ազատք, դատաւորք եւ զաւրագլուխք, եւ հասեալ կային առաջի թագաւորին:

13:4 In addition there assembled before the king all the troops, the grandees and governors [kusakalq], rulers of districts, dignitaries, notables, military leaders, chiefs, princes, [naxarars] lords, [azats] gentry, judges and officers:

13:5 Խորհուրդ ի մէջ առնոյր թագաւորն ընդ ամենեսին, փութալ հասանել՝ բարեաց գործոց ժառանգաւոր լինել:

13:5 The king deliberated with all of them, urging them to become heirs to good deeds:
|
13:6 Եկա՛յք, ասէ, ճեպեսցուք զայս առաջնորդ կենաց մերոց տուեալ մեզ յԱստուծոյ զԳրիգորդ հովիւ կացուցանել, զի լուսաւորեսցէ զմեզ մկրտութեամբ եւ նորոգեսցէ աւրէնսուսոյց խորհրդովն արարչին մերոյ Աստուծոյ:

13:6 He note: “Come, let us hasten to make as our pastor Gregory, this leader of our lives given to us by God, so that he illuminate us with baptism and renew us, as a teacher of the law by the sacrament of God, our creator:

13:7 Իսկ Գրիգոր ոչ առնոյր զայս յանձն, առնուլ զմեծ պատիւ քահանայապետութեանն. ասէ. «Ոչ կարեմ հանդարտել բաւել վասն անչափակալ բարձրութեանն զաւրել. զի անպատում է այս պատիւ քրիստոսատուր փառացն առաջնորդութեան, միջնորդ կալ ընդ Աստուած եւ ընդ մարդիկ. այլ զարժանին խնդրեալ գտցեն:

13:7 Now Gregory would not agree to accept the dignity of the chief priesthood, saying: “I cannot do this because of its immeasurable loftiness, because this honor of the glory given by Christ to serve as an intermediary between God and humankind is so profound that it is indescribable. Instead, let them search for and find someone who is worthy:

13:8 Իսկ անդէն տեսիլ սքանչելի յԱստուծոյ երեւեալ թագաւորին՝ տեսանէր զհրեշտակ Աստուծոյ, զի խաւսէր ընդ նմա եւ ասէր, թէ «Պարտ է ձեզ զԳրիգորդ վիճակեցուցանել առանց յապաղելոյ ի քահանայապետութիւն, զի լուսաւորեսցէ զձեզ մկրտութեամբ:

13:8 Now it happened after this, that a marvelous vision from God appeared to the king. In it he saw the angel of God speaking to him and saying: “Without delay you must have Gregory ordained to the chief priesthood, for him to illuminate you through baptism:

13:9 Նոյնպէս երեւեալ եւ Գրիգորի տեսիլ հրեշտակի Աստուծոյ, զի մի իշխեսցէ ինչ պնդել յամառել վասն այնր, «զի ի Քրիստոսէ է այդ հրամայեալ, ասէ, քեզ:

13:9 Similarly, the angel of God appeared to Gregory in a vision, so that he would not dare to persist in his stubbornness about the matter. He note: “It is Christ Who is commanding you:

13:10 Իսկ նա հաւանեալ վաղվաղակի բարբառեալ ասէր, թէ «Կամք Աստուծոյ կատարեսցին:

13:10 Then Gregory accepted it immediately, saying: “Let God’s will be done:
