44:0 Յաղագս արքայորդւոյն Պապայ, թէ զիա՛րդ յայտնի էին դեւքն ի նմա, եւ հանդերձ նոքօք գործէր զպղծութիւնն:

44:0 About king Arshak’s son who was named Pap; how he had been filled with demons since his birth, how they manifested themselves in him, and how, through them, he performed abominations:

44:1 Պապ որդին Արշակայ ծնաւ ի մօրէն Փառանձեմայ սիւնւոյ, որ էր լեալ կին Գնելոյն. զոր եսպան արքայն Արշակ, եւ առ զկին նորա Փառանձեմ իւր կին, եւ ծնաւ ի նմանէ որդի` որ կոչեցաւն Պապ:

44:1 Arshak’s son, Pap, had been born of Paranjem from Siwnik who had previously been Gnel’s wife. King Arshak killed him and took Paranjem as his wife:
|
44:2 Եւ եղեւ իբրեւ ծնաւ զնա մայրն իւր, քանզի անօրէն մարդ էր եւ ամենեւին յԱստուծոյ ոչ երկնչէր, նուիրեաց զնա դիւաց. եւ բնակեցին դեւք բազումք ի մանուկն, եւ վարէին զնա ըստ կամաց իւրեանց:

44:2 When his mother bore him, since she was an impious person and did not fear God, she gave him to the dews as a gift. Many dews dwelled in the lad and manipulated him according to their wishes:

44:3 Սնաւ եւ աճեաց, եւ գործէր զմեղս, զպոռնկութիւն, զպղծութիւն արուագիտութեան եւ զանասնագիտութիւն, եւ զազրալի գարշութիւն. բայց կարի զարուագիտութիւն:

44:3 Pap was nourished and grew up, and commited sins: adultery, the abomination of homosexuality, sodomy, and disgusting lewdness, but especially homosexuality:
|
44:4 Դարձեալ ինքն իգանայր այլոց, եւ այսպէս մըմկեալ թաւալեալ էր:
|
44:4 Furthermore, he made others effeminate. Thus, did he sully himself:
|
44:5 Եւ երբեմն իբրեւ զգաց մայր նորա զարուագիտութիւնն, եւ ոչ կարացեալ համբերել պարսաւանացն վատանուանութեանն, ասէ ցսենեկապան որդւոյն իւրոյ, թէ յորժամ նա խնդրեսցէ ի պղծութիւն զարսն` ընդ որ սովորն է անկանել, դուք զիս ի ներքս կոչեսջիք:

44:5 Now it happened that once his mother realized his homosexuality and was unable to endure the infamous pollution of his reputation, she told her son’s chamberlain: “When he seeks men for abomination, a practise he has fallen into, you call me in:

44:6 Յորժամ պատանեակն Պապ ինքն ընդ անկողին մտեալ` խնդրէր զարսն ի պղծութիւն, եմուտ մայր նորա եւ նստաւ զառաջեաւ նորա` իւր որդւոյն:

44:6 When the lad Pap had gotten into bed and requested men for abomination, his mother entered and sat there in front of her son:
|
44:7 Ապա սկսաւ ճչել վայել պատանեակն, եւ ասէ ցմայր իւր. Յարիցես գնասցես ի բաց, զի մեռանիմ խորովիմ կսկծիմ պայթիմ, թէ ոչ յարիցես գնասցես ի տանէս:
|
44:7 But the lad began to scream and lament, saying to his mother: “Get up and get out, or if you do not go from my house, I shall die, roast, be constricted, and burst:
|
44:8 Իսկ մայրն ասէ` թէ ոչ գնացեալ ելից ի տանէ աստի:
|
44:8 But the mother note: “I will not leave this house:
|
44:9 Իսկ նա հաղ քան զհաղ ճչէր, բազմացուցանէր զվայելն:
|
44:9 But Pap began to shout more and more and to multiply the laments:
|
44:10 Իսկ մայրն նայեցեալ տեսանէր աչօք իւրովք օձք սպիտակք, զի պատեալք էին զգահոյիցն ոտամբք, եւ ճապատէին ի վերայ պատանեկին Պապայ, մինչ դեռ ընգողմանեալ էր նա. կայր ի մահիճսն, վայէր եւ խնդրէր զպատանեակսն ընդ որ սովորն էր գիտանալ:

44:10 Then the mother looked and saw with her own eyes that white snakes had wrapped around the feet of the couch and were coiling around the lad Pap while he was lying in bed lamenting and demanding those lads with whom he used to have relations:
|
44:11 Իսկ մայրն գիտացեալ յիշեաց զայն, որոց ի ծննդեանն նուիրեաց զորդին իւր. գիտաց թէ նոքա են, որ ի կերպարանս օձիցն ճապատէին զորդւովն իւրով. յարտասուս հարեալ` ասաց. Վա՜յ ինձ, որդեակ իմ. զի քեզ տագնապ էր, եւ ես ոչ գիտէի:

44:11 Then the mother knew and recalled that at birth she had dedicated her son to the dews and she realized that it was they in the appearance of snakes who were coiling around her son. She started crying and note: “Woe is me, my little son, for you are in anguish and I did not know it:

44:12 Յարուցեալ գնաց եթող զտեղին, կատարել զպէտս ցանկութեանն:
|
44:12 She arose and left the place so that he could fulfill the needs of his lust:
|
44:13 Եւ այսպէս դիւօք վարեալ, յայսպիսի գործս զամենայն աւուրս կենաց իւրոց ըմբռնեալ Պապն որդին Արշակայ, մինչ եհաս ի թագաւորութիւնն, մինչեւ ի մահ իւր:

44:13 So, manipulated by dews, Pap the son of Arshak, committed such deeds all the days of his life, while he reigned, and until his death:
