96:0 Իսկ ի վաղիւն խորհեալ աւագանւոյ դրանն թագաւորին Վաղարշու, զոր գիտէին թէ եւ նա ինքն կարի սիրով ախորժէ եւ կամի լսել եւ առնել, տալ Մամիկոնենին Վահանայ զտէրութիւն Մամիկոնենից եւ զսպարապետութիւնն Հայոց՛:

 96:0 The next day the court nobility advised king Vagharsh (whom they knew would be agreeable to hearing and doing it) to give Vahan Mamikonean the terut’iwn of the Mamikoneans and the sparapetut’iwn of Armenia:

96:1 եւ թագաւորն կամաւ եւ սիրով յանձն առեալ` ծանուցանէին Մամիկոնենին Վահանայ զկամս թագաւորին Վաղարշու, միաբանութեամբ դրանն աւագանւոյ:

 96:1 The king willingly and gladly agreed, and they informed Vahan Mamikonean of the the united wish of the king and the court nobility:

96:2 Եւ Մամիկոնենին Վահանայ պատասխանի արարեալ ասէր. «Ընդդիմանալ կամացն ձերոց եւ հրամանին` չունիմ իշխանութիւն, եւ յիս կողմն կամք ձեր եւ արարուած կարի մեծ է եւ առաւել:

 96:2 Vahan Mamikonean responded, saying: “I do not have the authority to resist your wishes and command; your wishes and what you have done for me is very great and (even) excessive:

96:3 Բայց կամէի այսպէս, թէ սակաւ մի գործ ցուցանէի եւ սպաս, որով ձեզ ըստ արժանի հաճոյ եղեալ` հայէիք ի վերայ, եւ ապա որ ինչ թուէր ձեզ եւ կամէիք առնել` առնէիք. բայց առ այս նուագ` կամէի թէ ներէիք ինձ:

 96:3 I wish that you would allow me to display some small act of service which you might look upon and then do as is proper and what pleases you. In this fashion I hope that you will forgive me:

96:4 Եւ թագաւորին եւ ամենայն Արեաց աւագանւոյն լռեցուցեալ զբանս Մամիկոնենին Վահանայ` բազմեցուցանէին զնա ի գահու տէրութեանն Մամիկոնէից, տուեալ ցնա, ըստ աւրինի նախնեաց իւրոց, եւ զսպարապետութիւն Հայոց աշխարհին:

 96:4 The king and all the Aryan nobility silenced Vahan Mamikonean’s words, and sat him on the throne of the Mamikonean lordship, giving him (in the example of his ancestors) the sparapetut’iwn of the land of Armenia:

96:5 Շնորհէին եւ այլոց ուխտապահ նախարարացն Հայոց, որք ի միաբանութեանն էին ընդ տեառն Մամիկոնենից եւ սպարապետին Հայոց Վահանայ, իւրաքանչիւր ումեք ի ժամուն` որ ինչ պէտք էին պատշաճ ըստ անձին արժանաւորութեան:

 96:5 They also favored each of the other oath-keeping naxarars of Armenia who were united with the sparapet of Armenia, Vahan, with what was necessary and proper for the dignity of each:

96:6 Եւ ընկալեալ զամենեսին թագաւորին Վաղարշու եւ ամենայն աւագանւոյն լի սիրով եւ կամաւոր պատուով ի հրաժեշտի կացուցանէին երթալ խաղաղութեամբ յաշխարհն Հայոց:

 96:6 Then after king Vagharsh and all the nobility had received all of them full of affection and willing honor, they were ready to return in peace to the land of Armenia:

96:7 Եւ եկեալ տէրն Մամիկոնենից եւ սպարապետն Հայոց Վահան հրաժարել ի թագաւորէն Արեաց Վաղարշու եւ յամենայն դրանն աւագանւոյն` հարցանէր թագաւորն Վաղարշ զնա եւ ասէր. «Վահան սպարապետ Հայոց, գո՞հ ես զմէնջ, քա՞ջ կալաք, թէ պիտի եւ այլ եւս ինչ. ասա՛:

 96:7 When Vahan, lord of the Mamikoneans and sparapet of Armenia, came to say farewell to Vagharsh, king of the Aryans, and to all the court nobility, king Vagharsh asked him: “Vahan, sparapet of Armenia, are you satisfied with us, did we receive you well? If there is anything else you need, say so:

96:8 Եւ զաւրավարին Հայոց տեառն Մամիկոնենից Վահանայ պատասխանի տուեալ` ասէր ցթագաւորն Վաղարշ. «Զոր ինչ ձեր բարերարութիւնդ առ մեզ արար` բայց Աստուածն, որ ամենեցուն արարիչն է եւ զամենայն մարդոյ կամի զբարի եւ զաւգուտ, նմա միայն հնար եւ վայելուչ էր առնել զայդ առ մարդ, զոր եւ դուք առ մեզ անարժան ծառայիցս արարէք. այլ մարդոյ մահկանացուի անհնար էր:

 96:8 Armenia’s general, Vahan, lord of the Mamikoneans replied to king Vagharsh: “Whatever benevolence you have done for me could only have been done by God Who is the creator of all and desires the good and beneficial for all people. Only He could have done what you did to us, your unworthy servants; it would have been impossible for a mortal to have done it:

96:9 Քանզի զվնասն թողէք, գահ եւ պատիւ տուեալ մեծարեցէք, մեռելութեան յարուցիչ եղայք, զգլորեալ եւ զկորուսեալ աշխարհ մի գտեալ կանգնեցէք:

 96:9 For you pardoned crimes, exalted with throne and honor, became a raiser of the dead, and having found a confused and ruined land, you righted it:

96:10 Բայց որովհետեւ հարցէք եւ համարձակեցուցէք զարդարն ասել` որպէս եղէք աստուածաբար կենդանացուցիչ մեռելութեանս իմոյ, եւ յարուցեալ ի միջի արարէք՝ կամէի, թէ զբովանդակ անձնս յարուցեալ էր, եւ ոչ զկէսս. վասն զի զկէսս մեռեալ տեսանեմ դեռ:

 96:10 But since you asked and encouraged me to speak the truth, just as, godlike, you became the envivifier of my death, and raised me up from it, I would like my entire person to be raised, not just half. For I see that half (of me) is still dead:

96:11 Եւ թագաւորին Վաղարշու հարցեալ ասէր. «Աղէ, յայտնապէս ծանո՛ մեզ զպէտս բանիդ, զի գիտասցուք:

 96:11 King Vagharsh inquired: “Now tell us in plain words what you need so that we will know:

96:12 Եւ սպարապետին Հայոց տեառն Վահանայ Մամիկոնէից ասացեալ. «Զի թէ էր եւ հնար էր շնորհել ձեզ զտանուտէրութիւնն Կամսարականին` ապա բովանդակապէս շնորհեալ ի ձէնջ` տեսանէի զմեռելութիւն ամենայն անդամոցս կենդանացեալ:

 96:12 The sparapet of Armenia, lord Vahan Mamikonean note: “Were it possible for you to grant (me) the Kamsarakan terut’iwn, (I would be) fully favored by you, and would see the death in all of my limbs turn to life:

96:13 Եւ թագաւորին Վաղարշու պատասխանի արարեալ սպարապետին Հայոց տեառն Մամիկոնենից Վահանայ` ասէր. «Յաղագս ոչ կարի տրտմեցուցանելոյ զքեզ ի ժամուս, եւ դարձեալ` վասն զի նախ եւ առաջին զայդ պարգեւ խնդրեցեր ի մէնջ` եղիցի վասն քո տուեալ զտէրութիւն Կամսարականին:

 96:13 King Vagharsh replied to the sparapet of Armenia, lord of the Mamikoneans, Vahan: “So that you will not be very saddened now, and also, since you first and foremost sought that present from us, let the Kamsarakan terut’iwn be given to you:

96:14 Իսկ յաղագս տէրութեանն Արծրունւոյն թո՛ղ վայր մի, զի գիտասցեն մարդիկն թէ որ ի տոհմէն են, սպաս ինչ արժանաւորապէս ցուցանել առ մեզ եւ վաստակս ինչ յաւգուտ Արեաց աշխարհիս վաստակել. հայեսցուք ապա եւ մեք յարժանն:

 96:14 But regarding the Arcrunid terut’iwn, wait a while until people from that tohm know (about this matter), perform some service for us worthily and some merit to the benefit of the Aryan world, and then we will look to what is fitting:

96:15 Բայց դու այժմու ի մէնջ պարգեւիդ գոհ լեր, եւ ջանա՛ ամենայն ուժով տիրասէր լինել յայսմ հետէ եւ արդարամիտ եւ աշխարհաշէն. եւ ե՛րթ բարեաւ ի քո ընտանիս եւ յաշխարհն. եւ հասելոյ երբէք ի մէնջ հրամանի կազմ կաց եւ պատրաստ:

 96:15 And now be grateful to us for the reward and try hard to be from now on loyal, fair-minded, and creative. And Godspeed to you in joining your family and your country. While arriving, be always ready to receive orders from us at times:
