23:0 Յաղագս հայրապետութեան Դաւթի եւ այլոց, եւ գործոց նոցին:	23:0 The Patriarchate of Dawit’ and Others and Their Works:
23:1 Իսկ զկնի նորա կացուցանեն յաթոռ հայրապետութեան զԴաւիթ ի գեղջէն Արամոնից, որ ի Կոտայսն գաւառի:	23:1 After him (Yovhannes), they placed on the patriarchal throne Dawit’, who was from the village of Aramonk’ in the district of Kotayk’:
23:2 Այս գիւղ սեպհական էր տան կաթողիկոսարանի նախ քան զչարչարանս սրբոյն Գրիգորի յարքայէն Տրդատայ նմա իսկ հոգեցատուր պայմանաւ ընձեռեալ, որոյ եւ յետկար վճռան պահի մինչեւ ցայսօր ժամանակի:	23:2 This village belonged to the house of the katholikos, (and) even before the tortures of Saint Grigor, King Trdat had bequeathed it to him as a soulscot. Trdat’s edict has been preserved to this day:
23:3 Եւ վասն զի ի բնակչաց հեթանոսաց ի Դվին քաղաքի յոյժ տաղտկացեալ լինէր այրն Աստուծոյ Դաւիթ, այլ եւ բազում չար ոճիրք զնա նեղեցին. ապա տագնապեալ եւ արտաքս ի միջոյ նոցա՝ ըստ գրեցելումն ելեալ, շինէ եկեղեցի ի գեօղն Արամոնս գեղեցկայարմար յարդարմամբ. եւ դնէ շուրջանակի նորա տուն բնակութեան՝ վայելուչ իմն յարմարեալ: Եւ անդ զկէտ կենացս քաղաքավարեալ իբրեւ ամս երեքտասան՝ վախճանի. հանգուցանելով զնա մերձ առ նոյն իսկ եկեղեցի:	23:3 Since Dawit’, the man of God, was greatly annoyed by the heathen population of the city of Dvin, and numerous deeds of wickedness vexed him, torn with anguish, he came out of their midst in accord with what was written (in the Scriptures), and built in the village of Aramonk’ a church, which he adorned properly, and raised a suitable house in its vicinity. There living a virtuous life for thirteen years, he died, and was buried near the same church:
23:4 Իսկ զկնի յաջորդէ զաթոռ նորուն Տրդատ յՈթմսոյ գեղջէ, այր սուրբ եւ պարկեշտ եւ փայլեալ առաքինութեամբ:	23:4 He was succeeded by Trdat, who was from the village of Ot’mus, a saintly and chaste man, shining with virtue:
23:5 Յաւուրս նորա ասպատակք չար հինից յամենայն ուստեք դադարեալ լինէին ի սադրելոյ սրբութեան աղօթից նորա:	23:5 In his days the attacks of our wicked enemies from all quarters stopped with the help of his devout prayers:
23:6 Եւ այսպէս ապա խաղաղութեամբ հասեալ ի կէտ կոչմանն Քրիստոսի՝ վախճանի. կացեալ յաթոռ հայրապետութեան [ԻԳ] ամս:	23:6 And thus, he peacefully reached the point of Christ’s summons, and died after having occupied the patriarchal throne for twenty-three years:
23:7 Իսկ զկնի սորա համանուն սորուն Տրդատ ի Դասնաւորից կացորդի յաթոռ հայրապետութեան. եւ ոչ աւելի քան զերիս ամս տեւեալ՝ վախճանի:	23:7 His namesake Trdat, who was from Dasnawork’, succeeded him on the patriarchal throne, and occupying it for only three years, died:
23:8 Իսկ զկնի սորուն Սիոն ի գեղջէ Բաւոնեաց յաջորդէ զաթոռն:	23:8 He was succeeded by Sion who was from the village of Bawon:
23:9 Սա ի տղայական հասակէ սնեալ եւ ուսեալ ի սրբումն հայրապետարանի՝ վարժ եւ կիրթ ի բնաւոր առաքինութիւնս յառաջ բերիւր:	23:9 Since early childhood the latter had been brought up and educated in the holy patriarchate and had displayed himself as one disciplined in the innate virtues:
23:10 Իսկ ապա նախ քան զայս կոչեալ լինէր սա յեպիսկոպոսութիւն նահանգին Աղձնեաց. եւ մինչդեռ անդէն իսկ հովուէր զհաւատացեալն իւր հօտ՝ աղբիւր մի բազմաբուղխ առ ստորոտով Սիմն կոչեցեալ լերին ցամաքեցաւ. յորմէ բազում այգեստանք եւ բուրաստանք տնկոց եւ արտավարք ոռոգանեալ բուծանէին:	23:10 Before (his elevation), he had been summoned to the bishopric of the province of Aghdznik’. While he was still there tending to his faithful flock, a spring with copious waters (located) at the foot of the mountain which is called Sim dried up. Numerous vineyards, orchards with shrubs and arable lands were irrigated by its waters:
23:11 Եւ այնուհետեւ ապա սկսաւ ապականիլ եւ լքանիլ պտղաբերութիւնք գեղջն եւ յեղծումն աւերակաց բերիլ:	23:11 From that time the crop of the village began to wither and waste away, and it was reduced to a state of desolation:
23:12 Իսկ որ յայնժամ Իսմայէլեան ոստիկանն էր յայնմ նահանգի՝ Սուլէյման անուն, առ ինքն զեպիսկոպոսն կոչեալ՝ աղաչէր զնա թերեւս հնար ինչ գտանել դարձեալ բղխելոյ աղբերն:	23:12 The Ishmaelite governor of the province at that time, a man by the name of Sulayman (Suleyman), immediately summoned the bishop and begged him to find a way of making the waters of the spring flow again:
23:13 Իսկ ապա Սիոնի քարոզ ընդ բոլոր վիճակեալսն իւր առաքեալ, զի միաբան ի հսկումն ցայգապաշտամանց բերցին զմի գիշեր որ ի կիւրակէն լուսանայր:	23:13 Then Sion notified all the members of his prelacy to attend in concert the Nocturns on a (Saturday) night when Sunday was at dawn:
23:14 Իսկ ի վաղիւ առաւօտու կիրակէին չուեալ գնայ հանդերձ խաչիւն սրբով եւ համագունդ հաւատացելովքն յաղբիւրն խցեալ եւ ցամաքեալ. եւ անդ աղօթս արարեալ եւ տեառնագրեալ զտեղին՝ հարկանէ գաւազանաւն որ ի ձեռին իւրում. եւ յանկարծակի յական թօթափելն բղխէ աղբիւրն վտակեալ յորդաբուղխ ականակիտ պարզուածիւ. ընդ որ յաւէտ իմն ոստիկանն զարմացեալ՝ ոչ թերեւս լինէր մոռացեալ ի մտաց նորա եղեալ նշանքն:	23:14 And early on Sunday morning, accompanied by the faithful who were flocked together, he went with the holy cross to the withered and dried spring, and offered prayers blessing the site and striking it with the staff that was in his hand. Suddenly, at the twinkling of an eye, the waters began to gush out of the spring in an abundant and limpid flow. The governor was greatly amazed at this and could never forget the signs that happened:
23:15 Յետ այսորիկ ապա եհաս ոստիկանն այն պայազատել եւ զգործակալութիւն Հայաստանեայցս. եւ ի գնալ նորա ի Դվին քաղաք՝ իսկ եւ իսկ վախճանէր երկրորդն Տրդատ:	23:15 Subsequently, that ostikan rose to the position of governor of Armenia. Immediately after his arrival at the city of Dvin, the second Trdat died:
23:16 Եւ իմացեալ ոստիկանն վաղվաղակի առաքէ ի խնդիր եպիսկոպոսին Սիոնի, եւ ածեալ կացուցանել զնա հրամայէ յաթոռ հայրապետութեան. յայսպիսի իմն պատճառանաց բերեալ յայս տեղի:	23:16 When this matter was made known to him, the ostikan immediately sent for Bishop Sion, and gave orders to bring him and set him on the patriarchal throne. 23:18 Բայց նորա բազում եւ հրաշալի ճգնողական վարուք վճարեալ զկէտ կենաց իւրոց իբրեւ ամս ութ՝ վախճանի, եդեալ ի քնարանի ընդ հարս իւր:	23:18 After a most wonderful and solitary career of eight years he completed the course of his life and died. He was buried with his ancestors:
23:19 Եւ ապա զԵսայի, ի Նիգ գաւառէ յԱղապատրուշ գեղջէ՝ կոչեն յաթոռ հայրապետութեան:	23:19 Subsequently, they summoned to the patriarchal throne Esayi, who was from the village of Aghapatrush in the district of Nig:
23:20 Զսա նախ կարգեալ էին եպիսկոպոս ի գաւառին Գողթան եւ զկնի ապա կացուցեալ ի հայրապետական աթոռն:	23:20 He had been formerly appointed bishop over the district of Goght’n, from which position he was elevated to the patriarchal throne:
23:21 Ասի բան զնմանէ, թէ էր որդի միամօր կնոջ այրւոյ. եւ վասն զի յաղքատութեան կնոջն հանդիպեալ ստնդեայ որդւովն իւրով մուրացիկ շրջէր՝ եկն յարեցաւ նա ի տուն կաթողիկոսարանին եւ անդ կայր՝ ի յոլովից իմն անտես լեալ. եւ ոչ եւս բնաւ մեկնեալ ի դրանէ տաճարին Տեառն՝ ցրտահար սառուցեալ ի ձմերայնի լինէր եւ տապախարշ արեւակէզ յամարայնի:	23:21 It is narrated that he was the only child of a widow; reduced to a state of penury and wandering around with her suckling babe seeking alms, the woman attached herself to the house of the katholikos, and remained there unnoticed by most people. Since she never departed from the gates of the temple of the Lord, she was benumbed by the winter cold and parched by the summer sun:
23:22 Իսկ ի հարցանել քահանայիցն, թէ «Ընդէ՞ր այդպէս բացօթեայք լեալ բոլոր դառնաշունչ օդոյդ հանդերձ ստնդիաց մանկամբդ տարեալ, եւ ոչ մտանես ընդ յարկաւ ուրեք:	23:22 When the priests asked her, “Why do you lodge in the open air and suffer with your suckling babe all the harshness of the elements, which you could avoid by seeking shelter with anyone:
23:23 իսկ նա զայս բան եւեթ ընդդէմ առնէր պատասխանի. «Ո՞չ գիտէք, զի սակս կաթողիկոսութեան զորդեակս իմ աստ սնուցանեմ:	23:23 She gave only the following answer, “Don’t you realize that I am nursing my son here with the expectation that he may become katholikos:
23:24 Որ գրեթէ մարգարէուհի իմն վասն մանկան կինն գտանէր. զի սնեալ եւ ուսեալ ի նմին հայրապետանոցի՝ նախ յեպիսկոպոսութիւն եւ ապա ի բարձր աստիճան հայրապետութեան կոչեցաւ:	23:24 The woman was almost like a prophetess concerning her child, for after being nourished and educated in the same patriarchate, he was first elevated to the episcopal rank, and then summoned to the august patriarchal office:
23:25 Եւ սորա քաղաքավարեալ զկեանս իւր իբրեւ ամս երեքտասան՝ վախճանեալ դնի ընդ հարս իւր:	23:25 After presiding with virtue for a period of thirteen years, he died and was buried with his ancestors:
23:26 Իսկ յետ սորա զՍտեփաննոս ոմն ի Դվին քաղաքէ կացուցանէին յառաջնորդութեան անդ՝ ոչինչ աւելի քան զերկուս ամս կեցեալ:	23:26 After him they set up as prelate a certain Step’anos who was from the city of Dvin; he stayed for only two years:
23:27 Եւ յետ սորա Յովաբ յաջորդեալ յՈստանէն ի կուրապաղատին ապարանից՝ իբրեւ ամիսս վեց միայն տեւեալ:	23:27 Then Yovab, who was from Ostan and the court of the Curopalate, succeeded him and presided for only about six months:
