19:0 Դարձեալ եկն Աբլհաճայ յաշխարհն Վասպուրականի, եւ մահ նորին. եւ ամիրայանալ Մամլանայ՝ որդւոյ նորա:

19:0 Ablhaj came to Vaspurakan for the second time; his death; the Amirate of his son Mamlan:

19:1 Դարձեալ ի [ՆԼԷ] թուականին բորբոքեցաւ Աբլհաճ Ռովդայ ցասմամբ մեծաւ ի վերայ աշխարհին Վասպուրականի յայսպիսւոյ պատճառէ:

19:1 In [447=998], the great Ablhaj, (son of) Rovid, was again inflamed with anger against the land of Vaspurakan for the following reason:

19:2 Վասն զի որդի Ալեւորին Հերայ հատուածի պատճառաւ անցանէ յամիրայն Ապահունեաց. եւ ի կրկին անդրէն դառնալն, յորժամ մերձ եղեալ ի սահմանսն Հերայ, անցանէին ընդ գեւղ ինչ, տեսանէին զմանկունս քրիստոնեայս գեղեցիկս ի խաղու. եւ գայլաբար արշաւեալ՝ բառնան յերիվարս իւրեանց եւ ի փախուստ մտանեն:

19:2 The son of the elder (another Ablhaj, Amir) of Her, having retired, went over to the Amir of Akhunik, (Bat); and when he returned from him again, approaching the borders of Her and passing through some village, (his people) saw handsome Christian boys playing; attacking them like wolves, they took them on their horses and rode off:

19:3 Զոր տեսեալ ազատ ոմն ի հաւատացելոց, Սարգիս անուն, յերիվար հեծեալ՝ զհետ ընթանայր. «Զի՞ եւ զի՞ առնէք զայդ» ասէր: Եւ նոքա դարձեալ՝ թշնամանս դնէին նմա: Եւ նա զպողովատիկ սուրն քաջապէս շահատակեալ՝ արեամբ նոցա արբուցանէր՝ զամենեսեան սատակելով, միջակտուր արարեալ զորդի Ալեւորին՝ դարձուցանէր զմանկունսն գերեալս:

19:3 One of the believers, named Sargis, a man of noble birth, at the sight of this, jumped on a horse and set off in pursuit, shouting (after them): “what are you doing?” But they turned and began to scold him. Sargis, courageously unsheathing his damask sword, put them all on the spot, giving him their blood to drink. He cut the son of the elder (Amir) in half and returned the boys taken prisoner:

19:4 Եւ Ալեւորն Հերայ առաքէ առ ամիրայն Ատրպատականի Աբլհաճ, տալ ցնա խոստանայր զքաղաքն Հեր, միայն թէ զվրէժ արեան որդւոյ նորա խնդրեսցէ յաշխարհէն Վասպուրականի:

19:4 The Her elder sent Ablhaj (a messenger) to the Amir of Aterpatakan with a promise to cede the city of Kher to him if only he would punish the Vaspurakan country for the blood of his son:

19:5 Եւ նորա յանձն առեալ, ի բազմութիւն զաւրացն վստահանալով՝ անմարդացուցանել խոստանայր զաշխարհն ամենայն:

19:5 The Amir of Atrpatakan expressed his consent to this and, relying on the large number of his troops, promised to massacre all the inhabitants in that country:

19:6 Եւ ժողովեալ զբազմութիւն խուժադուժացն Պարսից՝ գայ հասանէ ի մուտս սահմանացն Վասպուրականի:

19:6 Gathering a horde of Persian-barbarians; he reached the Vaspurakan borders:
|
19:7 Յերիս յառաջս զզաւրսն բաժանելով յերեկոյացեալ ժամուն. զի առ վաղիւն գունդ բանակին միոյ ընդ աջակողմսն սփռեալ ընդ եզերս աշխարհին, եւ մինն՝ ընդ ահեկեայսն, եւ ինքն բանակաւ մեծաւ զմիջոց աշխարհին կալցէ, զի մի ոք կարասցէ ապրել ի քրիստոնէիցն:

19:7 Evening was already approaching: he divided his army into three detachments, (ordering) one of them to attack the right border of the country with the onset of morning, the other - to the left; he himself, with a (third) and larger detachment, (intentioned) to penetrate into the very interior of the country: in this way not a single Christian would escape death:

19:8 Զայս խորհեալ եւ խաւսեցեալ ընդ զաւրս իւր ի մուտս արեւուն:
|
19:8 his he conceived and communicated to his army at sunset:

19:9 Իսկ ի գիշերին յայնմ ասացաւ առ նա բան Փրկչին. «Անմի՛տ եթէ յայսմ գիշերի ոգիդ ի բաց պահանջի, իսկ այդ խորհուրդ ամբարհաւաճութեան մտացդ զիա՞րդ կատարեսցի:

19:9 But on the same night, the word of Christ was said to him: “Mad, this very night your soul will be required of you,” is it possible that your dishonest plan will come true:

19:10 Եւ ի վաղիւն գտաւ մեռեալ, եւ խափանեցաւ խորհուրդ չարութեան նորա:
|
19:10 The next morning, he was found dead, and (thus) his evil design remained unfulfilled:
|
19:11 Եւ յետ մահուան նորա առնու զիշխանութիւնն Մամլան՝ որդի նորա:
|
19:11 After his death, power passed to his son, Mamlan:
|
19:12 Իսկ Աբուտլուփ՝ Գողթան ամիրայն, միւսանգամ տիրէ Դունայ եւ երդմունս դաշանց հաստատէ թագաւորն Հայոց Սմբատ ընդ նմա, միջնորդութեամբ Տեառն Խաչկայ՝ խաղաղութեամբ կեալ առ միմեանս:

19:12 Abutlup, the Amir of Gokhtn, again took possession of Dvin. The Armenian King Smbat, through the mediation of Bishop Khachik, concluded an oath agreement with him to live in peace:
