18:1 Եւ մինչդեռ երանելին սուրբն Հռիփսիմէ խաւսէր զայս ամենայն՝ անդէն ի նմին գիշերի եկին հասին վաղվաղակի ի տեղի անդր իշխանք թագաւորին, եւ դահճապետն դահճաւքն հանդերձ ընդ նոսա, եւ ջահք լուցեալք առաջի նոցա:

18:1 While the blessed saint Rhipsime was saying all this, the king’s princes suddenly arrived, that very night. They were the chief executioner along with torturers, with blazing torches before them:

18:2 Եւ մատեան վաղվաղակի, կապեցին զնա ձեռս յետս, եւ խնդրէին զի հատցեն զլեզուն:
|
18:2 Coming up quickly, they bound her hands behind her and tried to cut out her tongue:
|
18:3 Իսկ նա իւրովի կամաւք բացեալ զբերանն՝ հանեալ մատուցանէր զլեզուն:
|
18:3 She willingly opened her mouth and stuck out her tongue, offering it to them:
|
18:4 Եւ անդէն զհանդերձիկն պատառատուն որ զնովաւն էր՝ ի բաց զերծուին ի նմանէ. եւ հարեալ չորս ցիցս ի գետինն, երկուս ոտիցն եւ երկուս ձեռացն՝ եւ պրկեցին զնա. եւ մատուցին զկանթեղունսն ցմեծ ժամս. այրէին եւ խորովէին զմարմինս նորա հրով կանթեղացն:

18:4 Then they stripped from her the torn clothing which was around her. And they fixed four stakes in the ground, two for her feet and two for her hands, and tied her to them. And they applied the torches to her for a long time, burning and roasting her flesh with their fire:

18:5 Եւ քարինս վարեցին ընդ գոգս նորա եւ ի վայր վայթեցին զաղիս նորա. եւ մինչդեռ կայր կենդանի՝ փորեցին զաչս երանելւոյն:
|
18:5 And they thrust stones into her entrails, eviscerating her. And while she was still alive, they plucked out the blessed one’s eyes:
|
18:6 Ապա անդամ անդամ յաւշէին զնա եւ ասէին, եթէ «Ամենեքեան որ իշխեսցեն անգոսնել եւ անարգել զհրամանս թագաւորաց՝ ըստ դմին աւրինակի կորիցեն:
|
18:6 Then limb by limb they dismembered her, saying: “All who dare to despise and insult the king’s commands will perish in the same way:
|
18:7 Իսկ էին եւ այլ սուրբք, արք եւ կանայք, որ ընդ նոսա եկեալ էին, աւելի քան զեաւթանասուն մարդ. այլ որ ի ժամուն անդ հասին ի տեղին յայն ի նոցանէն, որ խնդրէին ամփոփել եւ թաղել զմարմինս նոցա, յորոց վերայ սուր եդեալ կոտորեցին իբրեւ երեսուն եւ երկու ոգիս:

18:7 And there were other saints, men and women, who had come with them, more than seventy people. But of those who came there at that time and who sought to wrap and bury their bodies, they put to the sword and killed thirty-two:

18:8 Որոց ասացեալ եւ նոցա զայս. «Սիրեցաք զքեզ, Տէր, զի լուիցես զձայն աղաւթից մերոց. խոնարհեցուցեր զունկն քո բարերար, եւ մեք կարդասցուք առ քեզ:
|
18:8 These said as follows: “We have loved you, Lord, that you might hear the voice of our prayers. You inclined your benign ear and we invoked you:
|
18:9 Քեզ փառք, որ ոչ զրկեցեր զմեր անարժանութիւնս ի քոց բարեացդ, մարդասէր. որ պահեցեր զմեզ իբրեւ զբիբ ական, եւ ի հովանի թեւոց քոց ապրեցաք յանաւրէնութեանցս բազմութենէ. եւ ահա մեռանիմք վասն փառաւորեալ անուանդ քոյ:

18:9 To you be glory, for you did not deprive our unworthiness of your blessings. You preserved us like the apple of an eye and saved us under the shadow of your wings from the multitude of these iniquities [cf. Deut. 32.10-11; 16.8-9; Ps. 60.5]. And behold we die for your glorious name:

18:10 Եւ զայս միաբան ասացեալ՝ առ հասարակ սպառեցան:
|
18:10 Saying this with one voice, together they breathed their last:
|
18:11 Եւ մի ոմն որ անդէն ի ներքս սպանին ի հնձանի անդ, ուր էին վանք նոցա. որ այսպէս ասէր ի ժամ հրաժարելոյն իւրոյ. «Գոհանամ զքէն, Տէր բարերար, զի եւ զիս ոչ զրկեցեր. զի ես հիւանդ էի, եւ ոչ կարացի ընթանալ եւ զհետ ընկերացն ժամանել. սակայն դու, Տէր մարդասէր եւ քաղցր, ընկա՛լ եւ խառնեա՛ եւ զիմ ոգիս ի գունդ քոյ սուրբ վկայիցն, ընկերացն իմոց եւ քերցն, առ քո աղախինն եւ մայրն մեր եւ գլուխ Գայիանէ, եւ զքեզ սիրիչ եւ որդեակ մեր Հռիփսիմէ:

18:11 And there was one killed in the vat-store, which had been their lodging-place, who spoke thus at the moment of her death: “I thank you, benign Lord, for not excluding me. For I was ill and could not run to follow my companions. But do you, benevolent and sweet Lord, receive and join my soul to the company of your holy martyrs, my companions and sisters, with your handmaid and our mother and leader, Gayane, and Rhipsime our child who loved you:

18:12 Եւ սա այսու աւրինակաւ խաւսեալ՝ փոխեցաւ:
|
18:12 And speaking thus she died:
|
18:13 Եւ քարշեալ ի բաց ընկեցին զմարմինս նոցա՝ առ ի կեր լինել շանց քաղաքին եւ գազանաց երկրի եւ թռչնոց երկնից:
|
18:13 They dragged out their bodies and threw them as food for the dogs of the city and beasts of the land and birds of the sky:
