 2:37 He caused his entire land to apostatize completely, not merely the mass of the laity but also many of the holy clergy. He accomplished his evil deeds notably through false priests, a priest called Zangak, a priest called Peter, a deacon called Sahak, and a deacon called Mushi.  2:39 He brought together all who had stumbled and made a force of many soldiers. He wrote their names and presented many of them in person to the great hazarapet; he greatly boasted of his brave valor, how he had instructed them in deceitful error; and he made the Armenian army appear divided and disunited:

 2:40 Having been successful in all these evil actions, he also broke the union of Georgia with Armenia; he did not allow the Albanians to advance and he held back the land of Aḷdznik in the same fashion:

2:41 Գրեաց հրովարտակ եւ աշխարհին Յունաց, ցուցանելով նոցա այլ ընդ այլոյ ստութեամբ, առ այր մի, որոյ Վասակ անուն էր, յայնց Մամիկոնենից՝ որ կան ի ծառայութեան Յունաց:

 2:41 He wrote an epistle to the land of the Greeks, falsely confusing matters for them; it was addressed to a man called Vasak, one of those Mamikoneans who were in service to the Greeks:

2:42 Եւ ի թշուառութեան ժամանակին այրն այն սպարապետ էր Ստորին Հայոց, եւ հաւատարիմ զաւրացն Հոռոմոց ի սահմանին Պարսից, եւ արտաքոյ էր աւրինացն Աստուծոյ գործովք իւրովք:

 2:42 In this, time of trouble he was the sparapet of Lower Armenia and faithful to the Roman army on the Persian border, but in his actions was beyond the pale of God’s religion:

2:43 Եգիտ այս Վասակ զայն Վասակ իւր գործակից ի մեծամեծ չարիսն՝ զոր միաբանեցին երկոքեանն:

 2:45 The furtive Vasak had this letter taken to the emperor’s capital secretly with great caution, so that he estranged the minds of the holy bishops from the Armenians and caused all the Greek forces to doubt the covenant:

2:46 Մանաւանդ զի ի ձեռն սուտ քահանայիցն պատրէր եւ խաբէր իբրեւ ճշմարիտ մարդովք. աւետարան հանդերձ խաչիւ տայր տանել, եւ զիւր զամենայն սատանայական ստութիւնն նոքաւք ծածկէր:

 2:46 He deceived and tricked particularly through the false priests, pretending that they were honest men. He had the Gospel and cross brought and by these means hid all his own Satanic falsehood:

 2:47 He ranked himself and all the party of apostates among the pious, and put himself out to be more sure than all the Armenian troops. He swore and affirmed and produced all the orders of amnesty from the palace:

2:48 Այն էին եւ կամք Յունաց աշխարհին, լսել զայն ախորժութեամբ. այլ ի ձեռն նորա առաւել եւս ի նոյն յեղեալ տապալեցան:

 2:48 It pleased the Greek Empire to hear this happily, but through him they were subverted even more:

2:49 Սոյնպէս առնէր եւ ընդ ամենայն կողմանս ամրականաց աշխարհին, ի Տմորիսն եւ ի Կորդիսն, յԱրցախ եւ յԱղուանսն, ի Վիրս եւ յաշխարհն Խաղտեաց. յղէր պնդէր, զի ասպնջականութեան ոք արժանի մի՛ արասցէ:

 2:49 He acted likewise with the garrisons in all regions of the country, in Tmorik and in Kordik, in Artsakh and in Albania, in Georgia and in the land of Khaḷtik. He sent word, urging that no one should offer the loyal Armenians refuge:
