Ագաթանգեղոս 3-17 Agatangeghos

17:1 Եւ մինչ դեռ զշինուած մատրանն կազմէին՝ հրաման ետ Գրիգոր զաւրականին եւ իշխանացն որ ընդ իւրն էին, զի ելցեն եւ մրճաւք տապալեսցեն զշինուածս բագնացն:	17:1 While they were building the chapel, Gregory ordered the troops and the princes who were with him to come with hammers and destroy the buildings of the altars:
17:2 Որք ելեալ շատ ջանացան, եւ ոչ կարացին զդուրս բագնացն գտանել՝ թէ ի ներքս մտցեն, զի ծածկեցին դեւքն ի նոցանէն. եւ ի կողմանէ արտաքուստ ջանացան, եւ ոչ գծեաց անդ երկաթ գործւոյն. ապա փութացան հասին իշխանքն եւ պատմեցին նմա զամենայն:	17:2 Those who came forth tried hard, but they were unable to find the doors of the temples to go inside, since the demons had concealed the entrances from them. They tried from the outside, but their iron tools could not scratch the structure. Then the princes hastened to tell Gregory everything that had happened:
17:3 Իսկ նա առնոյր զնշան տէրունական խաչին, եւ ելեալ ի ձորակէն եկաց յանդիման բարձրաբերձ տեղեացն շինուածոցն եւ ասէ. «Հրեշտակ քո, Տէր, հալածեսցէ զնոսա:	17:3 And so Gregory took the sign of the Lord’s cross and, ascending from the valley, went opposite the lofty places of the structures. There he note: “Lord, let your angel drive them away:
17:4 Եւ ընդ բանիցն հողմ ուժգին բղխեաց ի խաչանիշ փայտէն, զոր ունէր ի ձեռին իւրում սուրբ եպիսկոպոսն:	17:4 At his words, a strong wind blew from the wooden cross which the holy bishop held in his hand:
17:5 Եւ երթայր հողմն ուռուցեալ լերինն հաւասար, եւ չոգաւ հարթեաց, տապալեաց, ընկէց զամենայն շինուածսն բագնացն:	17:5 The wind strengthened and rose as high as the mountain where it levelled, overturned, and demolished all the structures of the altars:
17:6 Եւ այնչափ կորոյս, զի յետ այնորիկ ոչ ինչ ոք յայնմ տեղւոջ նշմարանս կարէր գտանել, ո՛չ քարի եւ ոչ փայտի, ո՛չ ոսկւոյ եւ ոչ արծաթոյ, եւ ոչ բնաւ երեւէր, թէ լեալ ինչ իցէ անդ:	17:6 It so destroyed things that afterwards no one could find traces of anything - not stone, wood, gold, or silver. The destruction was so thorough that it seemed as though nothing ever had been present there:
17:7 Եւ անթիւք կոտորեցան մարդիկ պաշտամանն քրմութեան որ ի տեղւոջ անդ էին, եւ անհետ եղեն ոսկերք նոցա. եւ որք տեսինն՝ անթիւ մարդիկ հաւատացին:	17:7 Moreover, countless people there who were associated with the pagan priesthood were destroyed - even their bones vanished. Seeing this, countless people believed:
17:8 Եւ ասէ սուրբն Գրիգոր. «Արդ տեսէք, թէ ո՛րպէս ջնջեցան գայթակղութիւնքն ձեր, զի եւ չ էին իսկ ինչ. այլ ծառայեցէ՛ք յայսմհետէ տեառն Աստուծոյ որ արար զերկինս եւ զերկիր:	17:8 Then saint Gregory note: “See now, your obstacles have been removed, for they were nothing. From now on serve the Lord God who made heaven and earth:
17:9 Եւ յետ այսորիկ ելանէր նա ի տեղիս մեհենացն, եւ ժողովեալ դարձուցանէր զմարդիկ աշխարհին յաստուածպաշտութիւն:	17:9 After this Gregory went to the place of the temples, gathered the folk of the land, and converted them to piety:
17:10 Եւ եդ անդ զհիմունս եկեղեցւոյն, եւ ուղղեաց սեղան փառացն Քրիստոսի. զի նախ անդ արար սկիզբն շինելոյ եկեղեցեաց:	17:10 It was there in Taron that he laid the foundations of a church and erected an altar to the glory of Christ. For it was there that he first made a start to building churches:
17:11 Եւ ուղղեալ սեղան յանուն սուրբ Երրորդութեանն, եւ կազմեալ աւազան մկրտութեան, նախ զայնոսիկ լուսաւորեաց մկրտութեամբն՝ որ ընդ իւրն էին մեծամեծ նախարարքն, որ ընդ նմայն երթեալ էին ի քաղաքն Կեսարացւոց, եւ ապա զգաւառականսն, զբնակիչս երկրին:	17:11 He raised an altar in the name of the Holy Trinity and a baptismal font, first baptizing the grandee [naxarars] lords who were with him and had accompanied him to the city of Caesarea, then he baptized the people of the district, the residents of the country:
17:12 Աւուրս քսան երեկաւթս առնէր, եւ մկրտէր անդ աւելի քան զինն եւ տասն բիւր մարդկան, եւ կանգնէր սեղան ի վկայարանի սրբոցն հանգստի զոր շինեացն, եւ մատուցանէր զպատարագն փրկութեան, եւ բաշխէր անդ զմարմին եւ զարիւն կենարարին Քրիստոսի:	17:12 For twenty days he stayed there and baptized more than one hundred and ninety thousand people. He raised an altar in the shrine of repose of the relics of the saints which he had built, and offered the liturgy of salvation, distributing there the life-giving body and blood of Christ:
17:13 Եւ հրամայեաց կատարել անդ ամ յամէ, ի նմին տեղւոջ ժողովեալ ամենեցուն, զյիշատակ սրբոցն, որ աւր եաւթն էր ամսոյն սահմի, զի խնդութեամբ ժողովեալ՝ զաւր տաւնին խմբեսցեն. զի նախ անտի սկիզբն արար շինելոյ զեկեղեցիս:	17:13 Gregory ordered that every year everyone should assemble there joyfully making a feast-day to commemorate the saints, on the seventh day of the month of [Sahmi] October. For it was in that place in Taron that Gregory started building churches:
17:14 Եւ կացուցանէր քահանայս ի տեղիս տեղիս. եւ ելից զվայրսն եկեղեցւովք շինելովք եւ քահանայիւք:	17:14 He designated priests in different places and filled the area with priests and the construction of churches:
17:15 Եւ ինքն չու արարեալ անտի՝ մեծապանձ պարծանաւք զաւրութեան խաչին Քրիստոսի եւ բարձ նշխարս անտի կէս մի ի սրբոցն, զի եւ յայլ տեղիս հաստատեսցէ զյիշատակս նոցա:	17:15 Then Gregory himself left that place, with the grand splendor of the power of the cross of Christ, and half the relics of the saints, so that he might establish their remembrances in other locations:
17:16 Եւ ընդ ամենայն տեղիս եւ ընդ ամենայն գաւառս շրջէր. յաւանս եւ յագարակս շինէր եկեղեցիս, եւ առնէր մկրտութիւն եւ կացուցանէր քահանայս:	17:16 He circulated throughout every place and all districts. In hamlets and estates, he built churches, baptized, and designated priests:
