22:0 Յաղագս յետ այսորիկ որ ընդ երիս տեղի եղեւ ճակատն յերկրին Հայոց ընդ զօրսն Պարսից, թէ զիա՛րդ նշան յաղթութեան յայսմ եւս Հայոց կանգնէր:

 22:0 How after this there was warfare with the Iranians in three parts of the country of the Armenians, at the very same time, on the same day of the same month, and how in these three cases as well, the Armenians were victorious:

22:1 Յայնմ ժամանակի թագաւորն Պարսից Շապուհ ժողովեաց զզօրս իւր անթիւ եւ անհամար իբրեւ զաւազ առ ափ ծովու, եւ փիղս բազումս, զի ոչ գոյր նոցա թիւ:

 22:1 In that period Shapuh, the king of Iran, assembled his forces, as countless and immeasurable as sand on the seashore, with an inestimable number of elephants:

22:2 Ընդ երիս բաժանեալ զզօրսն, երկուց գնդացն զԱնդիկան եւ զՀազարաւուխտ զօրագլուխս կացուցանէր, եւ միում գնդին ինքնին թագաւորն լինէր զօրագլուխ:

 22:2 He then divided the troops into three parts. He designated Andikan and Hazarawuxt the military commanders of two brigades, while the king himself commanded one brigade:

22:3 Եւ հրաման տայր թագաւորն զօրացն` ընդ երիս տեղիս խաղալ մտանել արշաւել յաշխարհն Հայոց:

 22:3 The king commanded the troops to go enter and invade the land of Armenia in three places:

22:4 Ապա այս բանք վաղագոյն ազդ լինէին առ թագաւորն Հայոց Արշակ, եւ առ զօրավարն նոցին Վասակ. ապա եւ սոքա բազում զօր յաշխարհէ ժողովեցին, զի ոչ գոյր համար բազմութեանն:

 22:4 But this information was quickly learned by king Arshak of Armenia and by his general, Vasak. They in turn assembled many troops from the land, a countless multitude:

22:5 Եւ թէ բեւր աճապարեցին, սակայն զօրքն Պարսից արշաւէին յերկիրն Հայոց, եւ ընդ երիս ասպատակէին:

 22:5 Although they greatly hurried, the Iranian troops had already invaded the country of Armenia, raiding from three directions:

22:6 Ապա թագաւորն Արշակ եւ զիւր զօրսն բաժանէր ընդ երիս. եւ տայր զմի գունդն Վասակայ սպարապետին, եւ զերկրորդ գունդն ի ձեռն Բագասի եղբօր նորին, որ ի գործ արութեան քաջ էր անհնարին, բայց ի գործ իմաստութեան բախած էր. եւ զմիւս գունդն իսկ թագաւորն Արշակ առնոյր:

 22:6 So king Arshak divided his troops into three parts. He entrusted one brigade to sparapet Vasak. The second brigade was entrusted to his brother Bagas, or, Bagos who was incredibly courageous but not very bright. King Arshak himself led the other brigade:

22:7 Եւ տայր հրաման` յառաջ խաղալ պատրաստել, առ դիպան պատահել զօրացն Պարսից:

 22:7 He ordered that they should advance to meet up with the Iranian troops:

22:8 Ապա գայր սպարապետն Վասակ, գտանէր զառաջին առաջն զօրացն Պարսից զՀազարաւուխտն, զի հասեալ էին ի գաւառն Վանանդայ, ի տեղւոջն` որ անուանեալ կոչէր յԵրեւեալ. եւ բախէր ընդդէմ զօրացն Պարսից մարտիւ պատերազմաւ:

 22:8 Sparapet Vasak came and found Hazarawuxt and the first of the Iranian fronts which had come as far as the district of Vanand to the place known as Ereweal. He clashed with them in war:

22:9 Ի պարտութիւն մատնեցան զօրքն Պարսից, դարձան ի փախուստ, ցրուեցան սփռեցան:

 22:9 defeating the Iranian troops who turned to flight and dispersed:

22:10 Հասանէր զօրավարն Վասակ, արկանէր զզօրսն ամենայն փախստէիցն Պարսից. ոչ ապրեցուցանէին եւ ոչ զմի, եւ թափեցին աւար բազում եւ զփիղսն:

 22:10 But general Vasak pursued and killed all the fugitive troops, and the Armenians got much loot and elephants:

22:11 Ի նմին ամսեան ի նմին շաբաթու ի նմին աւուր հասանէր Բագոս, հանդերձ զօրօք` որ ընդ իւրեւ էին. գտանէր զառաջ երկրորդ զօրացն Պարսից եւ զԱնդիկան զօրագլուխ նոցա, զի հասեալ մածեալ բանակէին ի վերայ ձկնատենիցն Առեստեայ:

 22:11 On the same day of the same week of the same month, Bagos and the troops under him located the second Iranian front under Andikan the military commander, encamped near the fisheries of Arhest:

22:12 Ապա վաղ զգացին զօրքն Պարսից զհասանել Բագոսին, եւ պատրաստեցան ի մարտ պատերազմի ընդդէմ զօրացն Հայոց:

 22:12 However, the Iranian troops were quickly informed of Bagos’ arrival and prepared to wage war against the Armenian troops:

22:13 Ապա հասանէր Բագոսն ամենայն գնդաւն. ընդդէմ յարձակէին ճակատուն Պարսից, անդէն հարկանէին սատակէին զամենայն առ հասարակ զզօրսն Պարսից, եւ գլխովին զԱնդիկան սպանանէին:

 22:13 Then Bagos with his entire brigade attacked the Iranian front, and killed all of the Iranian troops there, including Andikan:

22:14 Ապա դիպէր Բագոսն գնդին փղացն, եւ տեսանէր զմի ի փղաց անդի մեծապէս զարդարեալ, եւ զարքունական նշանս ի վերայ արձակեալ:

 22:14 Now Bagos chanced upon a brigade of elephants, and noticed that one of the elephants was greatly adorned and bore royal insignia:

22:15 Համարեցաւ զթագաւորն ի փղին յայնմիկ. իջանէր յերիվարէն, հանեալ զսուսերն իւր յարձակէր ի վերայ փղին. զէն վերացոյց, եմուտ ի ներքոյ փղին, հարկանէր զներտս փղին, եւ անդէն ընկենոյր զփիղն ի վերայ անձին իւրոյ, եւ սատակէին երկոքեան. զի ոչ ժամանէր ելանել ներքուստ ի փղէն:

 22:15 Thinking that the king was on that elephant, Bagos dismounted from his horse, took out his sword and attacked the elephant. He went under the elephant, raised the weapon and stuck it into the elephant’s body. But the elephant fell upon Bagos, and both of them perished, since he was unable to get out from under the elephant in time:

22:16 Յայնմ ճակատու, բայց միայն զի մեռաւ զօրագլուխ զօրացն Բագոսն, այլ ի Պարսից զօրացն ոչ ապրեցուցանէին յայնցանէ եւ ոչ մի:

 22:16 In that battle of the Armenians, only Bagos, the military commander of the troops died; but as for the Iranians, not a single one of them survived:

22:17 Իսկ ի նոյն ամի ի նմին շաբաթի ի նմին իսկ աւուր, քանզի մի օր եղեն ճակատքն երեքեան, արդ հասանէր թագաւորն Արշակ, հանդերձ զօրօքն` որ ընդ իւրն էին. գտանէր զինքնին թագաւորն Շապուհ, զի հասեալ մածեալ բանակէին ի գաւառն Բասենոյ ի տեղիսն` որ անուանեալ կոչի Ոսխա:

 22:17 Now in the same year, the same week, the same day - since these three battles took place on the same day - king Arshak and the troops under him found king Shapuh himself who had come and encamped in the district of Basen, in the place called Osxa or, Oxsa:

22:18 Ապա անկանէր գիշերի արքայն Արշակ ի վերայ բանակին Պարսից, եւ անդէն ընդ սուր հանէր զամենեսեան. բայց միայն միաձի մազապուր ճողոպրէր թագաւորն Շապուհ, փախուցեալ անկանէր յաշխարհն Պարսից:

 22:18 King Arshak fell upon the Iranian banak at night and put them all to the sword. Shapuh the king was the only one who escaped, barely, fleeing to the land of Iran on a horse:

22:19 Ապա յայնմ ժամանակի յերիցունց գնդացն միմեանց դիպէին աւետաւորքն յաղթութեանցն. բայց ի Բագոսէ, զի մեռաւ միայն ի միում ճակատուն, այլ եւ ոչ մի ի նոցանէն ոչ ծախէին. յԱստուծոյ եղեւ մեծ աջողութիւնն յաղթութեանն:

 22:19 Then messengers bearing the glad tidings of the victories of the three brigades, met each other. Aside from Bagos, who had died in one of the battles, not a single one of the Armenians had been killed. Great assistance in the victory had come from God:

22:20 Եւ սոքա ի կողմանս Պարսից ասպատակէին, եւ հարկանէին մինչեւ ի կողմանս` որ կոչին Խարտիզան:

 22:20 The Armenian troops then raided the Iranian areas, striking as far as the area called Xartizan:

22:21 Եւ լցան գանձիւք բազմօք եւ զինու եւ զարդու եւ բազում աւարաւ եւ անչափ մեծութեամբ, եւ հարստացան անցին ըստ չափ:

 22:21 They loaded up with many treasures, weapons, ornaments, much loot, incalculable greatness, and were enriched beyond measure:
