33:0 Եւ կատարեալ զայս ամենայն գործս ըստ ասելոցս կարգաւ` դադարեցին անդէն զաւուրս տաւթոյն:

33:0 When all this had been done in the order I have described, (the Armenian rebels) remained there for the hot weather season:

33:1 Եւ ապա փութացան իջանել յԱյրարատ գաւառ. քանզի լուան, թէ Միհրներսեհ Արեաց հազարապետ եկեալ ի Փայտակարան քաղաք` գունդ կազմէ եւ ընդ Աղուանս արձակէ ի Հայս. զոր եւ Աղուանից ազատքն, որ ուխտակիցք էին Հայոց` ստէպ փութացուցանէին հասանել առ ինքեանս եւ անդէն յԱղուանս ի դիմի հարկանել նոցա պատերազմաւ:

33:1 Then they hastened to descend to the district of Ayrarat, for they had heard that Mihrnerseh, the hazarapet of the Aryans, had arrived at the city of P’aytakaran where he formed a brigade and dispatched it to Armenia via Aghbania (Aghuania). The Aghbanian azats who shared the covenant with the Armenians had to quickly rush to them and then back to Aghbania (Aghuania) to fight (the Iranians) in battle:

33:2 Եւ արդ եկեալք յԱյրարատ գաւառ, եւ զայս համբաւ լուեալ ի կողմանցն Աղուանից` ստիպէր զերանելի սպարապետն Հայոց Վարդան զտէրն Մամիկոնէից իշխանն Սիւնեաց Վասակ` գնալ պատահել նոցա գնդաւ:

33:2 When (the Armenians) had come to the district of Ayrarat and heard this news from the region of Aghbania (Aghuania), Vasak, the prince of Siwnik’, compelled the venerable sparapet of Armenia, Vardan, lord of the Mamikoneans, to go and engage them with a brigade:

33:3 եւ զինքն մնացուցանէր անդէն պատճառանաւք, ասելով, թէ «Ես աստէն պատրաստիմ. գուցէ, ասէր, այլ ինչ իմացեալ չարախորհուրդն Միհրներսեհ` գործիցէ ընդ մեզ:

33:3 On pretexts (Vasak) himself managed to stay where he was. He note: “I will remain ready here. Perhaps the malicious Mihrnerseh has something else in mind to inflict on us:

33:4 Այլ ինքն Վասակ զխաբէութեան ճանապարհն կազմեալ նիւթէր ի սրտի իւրում, ունելով կամակիցս եւ այլ աստուածանենգ արս խորհրդոցն իւրոց` յազատացն Հայոց:

33:4 Now Vasak was creating a path of deceit in his heart, and had as associates other God-betraying men who shared his beliefs, from the azats of Armenia:

33:5 Իսկ երանելի սպարապետն Հայոց, տէրն Մամիկոնէից Վարդան, ասէր ցիշխանն Սիւնեաց Վասակ, թէ «Որպէս ածաք զմտաւ` պարտ է մեզ նախ զորս առաքեմքն առ կայսր` արձակել, եւ ապա զոր ինչ հրամայեսցես ինձ` առնեմ անխափան:

33:5 But the venerable sparapet of Armenia and lord of the Mamikoneans, Vardan, said to Vasak, the prince of Siwnik’: “Let us now do as we planned to, and dispatch to the emperor those men we want to send. After that, I will do as you command, without delay:

33:6 Եւ նորա յաղագս ճեպով զիւր առաջի եդեալ զխորհուրդն կատարելոյ` յանձն իւր առնոյր զասացեալսն յերանելի սպարապետէն ի Վարդանայ կատարել:

33:6 In order to quickly achieve his ends, (Vasak) agreed to implement the words of Vardan, the venerable sparapet of Armenia:

33:7 Եւ վաղվաղակի նամականի արարեալ առ կայսր եւ առ ամենայն աւագանի դրանն Յունաց եւ առ այլ իշխանս եւ կողմնակալս, առ բդեշխն Աղձնեաց եւ առ իշխանն Անգեղ տան, ի Ծոփս եւ ի Հաշտեանս եւ յԵկեղեաց եւ այլ իշխանաց իւրաքանչիւր տեղեաց, եւ առ մեծ սպարապետն Անտիոքայ:

33:7 Then immediately, letters were written to the emperor, to all the nobility at the Byzantine court, to other princes and lieutenants, to the bdeshx of Aghjnik’, and to the prince of Angegh tun, to Cop’k’, Hashteank’, Ekegheac’, and other princes of every place, as well as to the great sparapet of Antioch:

33:8 Եւ զայս ամենայն թղթեան կնքէր նախ ինքն իշխանն Սիւնեաց Վասակ իւրով մատանեաւ, եւ ապա ամենայն տանուտեարքն Հայոց:

33:8 All of this correspondence was sealed first by the ring of Vasak, prince of Siwnik’, followed by (the seals of) all the tanuters of Armenia:

33:9 Եւ պատրաստեալ ճանապարհին Յունաց կազմէին զիշխանն տանն Ամատունեաց Վահան, որպէս զայր մտացի եւ խորհրդական, եւ զսուրբ սեպուհն զՀմայեակ, զեղբայրն երանելի զաւրավարին Հայոց Վարդանայ ի Մամիկոնէից տոհմէն, եւ զերանելին Մերհուժան զեղբայր սրբոյն Աղանայ` ի տոհմէն Արծրունեաց:

33:9 The group readied to travel to Byzantium consisted of Vahan, the prince of the tun of Amatunik’, a learned and sagacious man, the blessed sepuh Hmayeak, brother of the venerable general of Armenia, Vardan, from the Mamikonean tohm, and the venerable Merhuzhan, brother of the blessed Aghan, from the Arcrunik’ tohm:

33:10 Յորոց ձեռն տուեալ զնամականին իշխանին Սիւնեաց Վասակայ եւ ամենայն նախարարաց աշխարհին Հայոց` յուղարկէին առ կայսր եւ առ այլ ամենայն յառաջագրեալսն աւագանին Հայոց:

33:10 The correspondence was entrusted to them by Vasak, prince of Siwnik’, and all the naxarars of the land of Armenia. They travelled to the emperor and all the nobility of Armenia mentioned above:
