14:1 Յայնժամ թագաւորն վաղվաղակի փութով եւ երկիւղիւ եւ մեծաւ խնդութեամբ հոգացեալ, գումարեաց զգլխաւորս նախարարացն եւ զկուսակալս աշխարհացն:

 14:1 Then the king quickly, piously, and with great delight assembled by him the chief naxarars and the governors of the lands:

14:2 առաջին՝ իշխանն Անգեղ տան, երկրորդ՝ իշխանն Աղձնեաց, որ է բդեաշխն մեծ. երրորդ՝ իշխանն մարդպետութեան իշխանութեանն, չորրորդ՝ իշխանն թագակապ իշխանութեան ասպետութեանն:

 14:2 first, the prince of Angegh tun; second, the prince of Aghdzniq who was the great bdeash; third, the prince of the principality of the Mardpet-dom; fourth, the aspet, prince of the principality with the right of crowning the king:

14:3 հինգերորդ՝ իշխանն սպարապետութեան, զաւրավար Հայոց աշխարհին. վեցերորդ՝ իշխանն Կորդովտաց աշխարհին, եաւթներորդ՝ իշխանն Ծոփաց աշխարհին. ութերորդ՝ իշխանն Գուգարացւոց աշխարհին, որ միւս անուանեալ բդեաշխն. իններորդ՝ իշխանն Ռշտունեաց աշխարհին. տասներորդ՝ իշխանն Մոկաց աշխարհին:

 14:3 fifth, the prince of the sparapetutyun, the general of the land of the Armenians; sixth, the prince of the land of Korduq; seventh, the prince of the land of Tsopq; eighth, the prince of the land of Gugarq, who is called “the other bdeash”; ninth, the prince of the land of the Rshtuniq; tenth, the prince of the land of Mokq:

14:4 մետասաներորդ՝ իշխանն Սիւնեաց աշխարհին. երկոտասաներորդ՝ իշխանն Ծաւդէից աշխարհին. երեքտասաներորդ՝ իշխանն Ուտիացւոց աշխարհին. չորեքտասաներորդ՝ իշխանն շահապ Զարաւանդ եւ Հեր գաւառի. հնգետասաներորդ՝ իշխանն մաղխազութեան տանն. վեշտասաներորդ՝ իշխանն Արծրունեաց:

 14:4 eleventh, the prince of the land of Siwniq; twelfth, the prince of the land of Tsawdeq; thirteenth, the prince of the land of Utiq; fourteenth, the prince shahap of the district of Zarawand and Her; fifteenth, the prince of the House of the Maghxaz-dom; sixteenth, the prince of the Artsruniq:

14:5 Այս իշխանք են ընտիրք, կուսակալք, կողմնակալք, հազարաւորք, բիւրաւորք ի մէջ Հայաստան աշխարհի տանն Թորգոմայ, զորս գումարեաց թագաւորն Տրդատ եւ առաքեաց զնոսա ի կողմանս Կապուտկացւոց, ի քաղաքն Կեսարացւոց, զոր ըստ հայերէն լեզուին Մաժաք կոչեն. զի տարեալ զԳրիգորն՝ քահանայապետ կացուսցեն իւրեանց աշխարհին. եւ հանդերձեցան դէտ ակն ունել ճանապարհացն:

 14:5 These were the chosen princes, governors, holders of regions, thousanders, and ten thousanders in the land of Armenia, the House of Torgom, whom King Trdat assembled and sent to the Cappadocian areas, to the city of Caesarea, which is called Mazhaq in the Armenian language, so that they take Gregory to be installed as chief priest in their land. They prepared for the journey:

14:6 Եւ հրամայեաց հրովարտակ գրել աւրինակ զայս:

 14:6 And the king commanded that an edict be written, with this import:

14:7 ՊԱՏՃԷՆ ՀՐՈՎԱՐՏԱԿԻՆ: «Ի վաղնջուց հետէ կորուսեալք, տգիտութեամբ մեղացն պաշարեալք, մառախլապատք, միգապատք, ափշեալք, ոչ կարացեալ հայել իմանալ նկատել, զարեգակն արդարութեան տեսանել. վասն այսորիկ խաւարեալք էաք, ի մութ թաթաւէաք:

 14:7 Copy of the Edict: “From earliest times we were lost, enveloped in the ignorance of sin, wrapped in mist and fog [cf. Ez. 34.12], rendered stupid [cf. Mk. 8.17], unable to see, understand, or discern the sun of righteousness [cf. Mai. 4.2]; therefore, we were blinded and immersed in darkness:

14:8 Իսկ յորժամ քաղցրութիւն եւ մարդասիրութիւն արարչին մերոյ Աստուծոյ երեւեցաւ՝ խրատել եւ լուսաւորել զմեզ զարարածս իւր՝ ծագեաց զնշոյլս կենդանի լուսոյն իւրոյ ի սիրտս մեր, եւ կենդանացոյց զմեռելութիւնս մեր, զիւր զսուրբ զսիրելի զվկայսս իւր յայս կողմանս առաքելով:

 14:8 But when the sweetness and benevolence of God our creator appeared [cf. Tit. 3.4] to admonish and illuminate us his creatures, he shot the rays of his living light [cf. Wis. 7.26] into our hearts and vivified our mortality by sending his holy and beloved martyrs to these regions:

14:9 Որք եկեալ՝ մերում անմտութեանս զիւրեանց քաջութեան նահատակութեան առաքինութեան զհանդէսն ցուցին:

 14:9 They came here and revealed to our foolishness their fortitude, bravery and virtue:

14:10 Իբրեւ զի Տէրն գիտէր իսկ զնոցա քաջութիւնն թէ ո՛րպիսիք են. այլ զի եւ մեզ անմտացս ուսուսցէ զիմաստութիւն, թէ ո՛րչափ սիրով սիրեցին սոքա զՏէրն իւրեանց, վասն այսորիկ ընդ մարտին նոցա առաքինութեանն՝ տէր Աստուած սխրագործ ա՛յնչափ արար զիւր սքանչելիս եւ մեզ սաստիկ պատիժս պատուհասից՝ մինչեւ թագաւորիս մերում լինել խոզ, եւ ընդ վայրագասուն գազանս արածել:

 14:10 The Lord indeed already knew how great was their fortitude, but in order to teach us foolish one’s wisdom - with how great a love they loved their Lord - therefore through their virtuous struggle the Lord God wrought such amazing miracles and inflicted such severe punishments on us, so that our king even became a pig and pastured with the wild beasts:

14:11 Ապա ողորմեալ մեզ բարեխաւսութեամբ աղաւթից վկայելոցս, ի ձեռն այդր վկայեցելոյդ Գրիգորի զամենեսեան զմեզ բժշկեաց:

 14:11 But then he had mercy on us at the intercession of these martyrs’ prayers, and through the martyred Gregory healed us all:

14:12 Քանզի եւ դա առաւել եւս վկայ գտաւ, առաւել քան զառաւել նահատակեալ, վասն այսորիկ յԱստուծոյ մեզ տուեալ առաջնորդ:

 14:12 Now because he was even more a martyr and an even greater champion, therefore he has been given us by God as a leader:

14:13 Եւ ի ձեռն դորա զնախնական կարգս սովորութեան ունայնութեան, կռապաշտութեան հայրենեացն, խլեաց եբարձ ի միջոյ. եւ ուսոյց ամենեցուն մեզ զիւր զվկայութիւնսն եւ զհրամանս, ըստ իւրոց կամացն գնալ. մինչեւ տալ մեզ հրաման յայտ յանդիման՝ զդոյն ինքն զԳրիգորդ մեզ հովիւ եւ տեսուչ եւ վարդապետ ճշմարտապատում կացուցանել:

 14:13 Through him God has destroyed and abolished our former vain habits of worshiping ancestral idols, and he has taught us all his testimonies and commandments for us to follow his will. He has even given us a clear command to appoint this same Gregory as our shepherd and overseer and truthful teacher:

14:14 Վասն այսորիկ եւ մեր ապաստան եղեալ յաւգնականութիւն ընդունելութեան աղաւթից ձերոց եւ սրբութեանդ, Ղեւոնդիոս արքեպիսկոպոս Կեսարու եւ ամենայն ուխտ քահանայութեանդ սրբոյ եկեղեցւոյ, որ այդր էք, մեք յողորմութենէ Տեառն աղաւթիւք ձերովք առցուք ողջոյն, Տրդատիոս թագաւոր, ամենայն զաւրաւք երկրիս Հայոց Մեծաց, եւ Աշխէն տիկին, եւ աւրիորդ մեծ Խոսրովիդուխտ:

 14:14 Therefore, trusting in the support of your acceptable and holy prayers, O Leontius Archbishop of Caesarea and all the priestly clergy of your holy church there, by God’s mercy and through your prayers we send you greetings - I king Tiridates with all the army of Greater Armenia, and queen Ashkhen and princess Khosrovidukht:

14:15 Վասն այսորիկ առաքեցաք մեք առ ձեզ արս գլխաւորս՝ իշխանս պատուականս զաշխարհիս մերոյ մեծի, զի պատմեսցեն ձեզ զամենայն սքանչելիս Աստուծոյ, որ աստ յայսմ աշխարհիս գործեցաւ ընդ մեզ:

 14:15 Therefore, we have sent to you the principal men, the honorable nobles of our great country, to inform you of all God’s miracles which have been done amongst us in this land:

14:16 Եւ տուաք մեք ածել առ ձեզ զսուրբ խոստովանողդ Քրիստոսի զԳրիգորիոս. եւ զայս հրովարտակ մեր առ ձեզ գրեցաք, զի ըստ տուչութեան աւանդութեան հոգեւոր աստուածատուր շնորհին Քրիստոսի՝ մեզ զԳրիգորդ տեսուչ եւ վարդապետ առաջնորդութեան աստուածագնաց ճանապարհացն, եւ հովիւ եւ բժիշկ կացուսջիք, որպէս եւ մեզ յԱստուծոյ հրամայեցաւ:

 14:16 And we have had sent to you the holy confessor of Christ, Gregory. And we have written this edict to you that you may ordain for us Gregory as overseer and teacher and leader in God’s paths and shepherd and doctor, according to the providential tradition of the spiritual and divine grace of Christ, just as has been commanded us by God:

14:17 Եւ աղաւթս արասջիք, զի զմեզ արժանիս արասցէ Աստուած իւրոյ ողորմութեանն, առողջութեամբ գնալ ի ճանապարհս նորա, եւ ձեր սէրն եւ ողջոյն եկեալ հանգիցէ առ մեզ:

 14:17 And so, pray that God may make us worthy of his mercy and that we may walk righteously in his paths, and that your love and greeting may give us peace:

14:18 Եւ պատճէն հրովարտակին զայս աւրինակ գրեցաւ:
