82:0 Եւ զաւրավարն Սիւնեաց Գդիհովն փութացուցանէր ստիպով զզաւրագլուխն Պարսից գնդին զՇապուհն ասելով, թէ «Առնն Վահանայ Մամիկոնէից փորձ քաջութեանն եւ դո՛ւ առեր եւ ամենայն աշխարհն Արեաց. եւ ես իրաց եւ գործոց առնն իմանալ ինչ ես ոչ կարեմ. զի թերեւս գունդն ամենայն ի Դունի առ նմա միաբանեալ էր` նա մեզ անդէն զիւր քաջութեանն գործ ցուցանէր:

82:0 Gdihon, general of Siwnik’, urgently hurried Shapuh, the military commander of the Iranian brigade, saying: “You and the entire Aryan land should go and experience Vahan Mamikonean’s bravery. I am unable to fathom the man’s actions and deeds. For when the entire brigade at Duin was united around him, he showed us (an example of) his bravery:

82:1 բայց արքայից արքայի թագն եւ Արեաց փառքն մեզ այնպէս յաջողեցին, զի նորա իրք այնպէս դիպեցան, որպէս տեսաքն, եւ մեզ բարի վճարումն եղեւ:

82:1 However, the king of king’s crown and the glory of the Aryans aided us such that (as you saw) his deeds resulted in one thing, while our’s came to a good conclusion:
|
82:2 Եւ արդ` տեսէք, այդչափ սակաւ արամբք զի՞նչ գործ գործէ այրն, եւ աւր քան զաւր նուազեցուցեալ զգունդս մեր եւ վատնէ:

82:2 Now tell me, what is the man doing with so few men that every day he depletes and defeats our brigade:
|
82:3 Արդ` թէ ուստեք եւս այլուստ կարէ գտանել աւգնական` տեսջիք, զի նա ամաւթով զմեզ դարձուսցէ եւ սակաւաւորս. այլ եւ դառնալոյ իսկ մեզ անդէն անվստահ եմ շատ:

82:3 See if you can get aid elsewhere, for he will reduce us to but a few, and make us retreat in shame. Furthermore, I am unsure about our retreat even:

82:4 Բայց փութա՛ եւ մի՛ տար առն հանգիստ առնուլ. գուցէ թէ մեք ծուլանամք, եւ նա առնիցէ զմեզ աշխատ, եւ ամաչիցեմք:

82:4 But hurry and do not let the man rest. Otherwise, perhaps we will slow down and he will exhaust us and embarrass us:

82:5 Եւ եթէ յիս միայն թողուք զնա` ցուցանեմ ձեզ յաւուրս հինգ իմով իսկ գնդաւս, թէ ո՛րպիսի մատնեալ վատի կորուսանեմ զնա եւ որք ընդ նմայն են:

82:5 If you only left him to me, in but five days, with my brigade alone I would show you how severely I would defeat him and those with him:

82:6 Եւ վասն զի ոչ էին գործք առնն Գդիհոնի մաքուր հոգւոյ արժանի, այլ այսն պիղծ որ էր ի նմա` գուշակէր նմին զանձնէ իւրմէ, թէ յետ հինգ աւուր չար մահուամբ սատակելոց ես ի յարանցն, որք են ընդ Մամիկոնենին Վահանայ. քանզի թափուր գտեալ ամենեւիմբ դիւին յԱստուծոյ խնամոցն զայրն` այնուհետեւ նման Սաւուղայ ո՛ւր կամէր սպանանէր զնա:

82:6 Because Gdihon’s deeds were not those worthy of a clean soul, the impure (spirit) within him prophesied about him that: “After five days you will wickedly be killed by the men who are with Vahan Mamikonean.” For when the dew saw that the man was completely abandoned by God’s care, like Saul, (he realized that) he could kill him wherever he wanted:

82:7 Եւ լուեալ զայս ամենայն բանս զաւրագլխին Պարսից Շապհոյ` ոչ տայր դուլ անձինն եւ ոչ զաւրացն որ ընդ նմայն էին, այլ փութով զհետ առնն երթայր սրտմտեալ, եւ հասեալ ի տեղիս բանակէր. կարծէր ի տեղիսն ուրեք անյայտս գետառուին թաքչել:

82:7 Now when the Iranian military commander, Shapuh, heard all these words, he did not permit (Gdihon) or the men with him (to accompany his troops); rather, in a rage, he himself went after (Vahan). He encamped in a certain spot near where he wanted to go, thinking to hide in an unknown area by a branch of the river:

82:8 Եւ զաւրավարին Հայոց Վահանայ Մամիկոնէի եւ իւր եւս զաւրուն որ ընդ նմա, գոնեայ զայն գիշեր հանգստիւ յագեալ քնով, եւ հաւանեցուցեալ զարսն ի գեղջ Երիզայ. քանզի ամենայն անձն երկիւղիւ եւ կամաւ լսէր հրամանի նորա, իբրեւ թագաւորի, որ կարգեալ իցէ յԱստուծոյ ի վերայ երկրի. եւ ինքն Աստուած ընդ նմա էր յամենայն ի գործ` ուր եւ ուղղէր զկամս իւր:

82:8 Armenia’s general, Vahan Mamikonean, and the troops with him were sleeping peacefully at least that night, after convincing the men in the village of Erez (to cooperate). For everyone listened to his orders out of fear, willingly, as though he were a king set up by God upon the earth. And God Himself was with him in everything he did, wherever that might be:

82:9 Եւ առեալ ընդ իւր զարս զաւրուն իւրոյ եւ զշինականսն զԵրիզացիսն` գայր հասանէր ի վերայ ղակշին ի գիշերի. եւ սպարափակ արարեալ Երիզացաւքն զտեղի կռուոյն իւրեանց, եւ ինքեանք ըստ նմանութեան տեղատարափ շառաչման` նետաձիգ սաստկութեամբ զգունդս Պարսկացն ահաբեկէին:

82:9 He took his troops and the shinakans of Erez and approached the encampment at night. Then, surrounding the battle-site with Erezites holding shields, they violently let loose with a tumultuous downpour of arrows against the Iranian brigade which they terrified:

82:10 Եւ խառնեալ ընդ միմեանս զամբոխն զաւրացն որ ի ղակշին էին` այլ եւս առաւել ինքեանք զինքեանս Պարսիկք առաթուր հարեալ կոտորէին. եւ լինէր ձայն լալոյ եւ ձայն գուժի ի բանակէ անաւրինացն:

82:10 The mob of troops in the encampment mingled with one another and the Iranians trampled one another even more; and there came the sound of weeping and of bad news from the camp of the impious:

82:11 Բայց ի Հայոց գնդէն Գաբաղ միայն, սեպուհն Գաբեղեան, կամաւորութեամբ կռուեալ եւ մեծ արութիւն ցուցեալ` խոցեցաւ. յորոյ վիրաց եւ կատարելութեան պսակի յետ սակաւ ինչ աւուրց արժանի եղեւ ընդունել յԱստուծոյ:

82:11 From the Armenian brigade, only Gabagh, sepuh of the Gabegheank’, was pierced while enthusiastically battling and displaying great courage. After a few days he died of his wounds and was crowned, being worthy of acceptance by God:
