29:0 Մահ Սմբատայ: Ապստամբել նախարարացն Հայոց ի Պարսից եւ երթալ ի ծառայութիւն Խաքանայ:

 29:0 The death of Smbat. Rebellion of the Armenian nobles from the Persians and their submission to the Khak’an:

29:1 Եւ եղեւ իբրեւ մերձեցաւ աւթիւ միով ի դուռն արքունի՝ հրաման տայ արքայ ամենայն նախարարացն եւ զաւրաց իւրոց ելանել ընդ առաջ նորա, եւ աւժանդակացն հրամայէ նժոյգ տանել ընդ առաջ նորա յախոռէ արքունի՝ արքունական կազմուածով. եւ երթեալ մեծաւ շքով եւ փառաւք յանդիման եղեւ թագաւորին:

 29:1 When he had approached within a day’s journey of the royal court, the king ordered all the nobles and his army to go out to meet him. He commanded the auxiliaries to meet him with a fine horse from the royal stable with royal equipage. So, he proceeded with great splendour and glory and presented himself to the king:

29:2 Իսկ նորա տեսեալ խնդութեամբ ընկալաւ զնա, եւ ձգեաց առ նա զձեռն իւր. եւ նորա համբուրեալ զձեռն նորա՝ անկաւ ի վերայ երեսաց իւրոց: Յայնժամ ասէ ցնա արքայ. «Միամտութեամբ վաստակեցար, եւ մեք աւելի գոհ եմք զքէն. եւ արդ՝ յայսմհետէ աւելի մի լինի աշխատ ելանել ի պատերազմն, այլ կաց աստէն մերձակայ, առ, կեր եւ արբ, եւ ուրախութեան մերում պարապեա՛:

 29:2 On seeing him he welcomed him with joy, and stretched out his hand to him. He (Smbat) kissed his hand and fell on his face. Then the king said to him: ’You have done your duty loyally and we are especially grateful to you. From now on trouble no more to wage war, but stay here, close by. Take, eat and drink, and devote yourself to our happiness:

29:3 Եւ էր նա երրորդ նախարար ի տաճարի թագաւորութեանն Խոսրովայ արքայի, եւ կացեալ ժամանակս սակաւս՝ վախճանեցաւ յամի [ԻԸ-երորդի] թագաւորութեանն նորա: Իսկ զմարմին նորա մեռեալ՝ տարան ի Հայաստան երկիր ի բնիկ հանգստարանսն, եւ եդին ի տապանի ի գիւղն Դարիւնս, որ է ի Գոգովիտ գաւառի:

 29:3 He was the third noble in the palace of king Khosrov, and after remaining there a short time he died in the [28th] year of his reign. They brought his dead body to the land of Armenia to his ancestral sepulcher, and placed it in a tomb in the village of Dariwnk’, which is in the province of Gogovit:

29:4 Ապա ապստամբեալ գնացին ի ծառայութիւն Մեծին Խաքանայ արքայի կողմանցն հիւսիսոյ, ի ձեռն ճենաստանն Ճեպետխոյ. ապա գնացեալ յարեւելից յարեւմուտս ընդ կողմանս հիւսիսոյ՝ խառնել ընդ զաւրացն Ճեպետխոյն այնորիկ հրամանաւ թագաւորին իւրեանց Խաքանայ: Եւ ելեալ ընդ Պահակն Ճորայ զաւրաւք բազմութեան՝ գնացին յաւգնականութիւն թագաւորին Յունաց:

 29:4 Then they rebelled and submitted to the great Khakean, king of the regions of the north, under the Chinese Chepetukh. They went from the east to the west across the regions of the north to join the army of that Chepetukh at the command of their king the Khak’an.
