64:1 Եթէ զիա՛րդ Տիգրան վերջին, եւ զի՛նչ ի նմանէ գործք:	64:1 What manner of man the last Tigran was, and what deeds he performed:
64:2 Փոխանորդէ զՏիրան եղբայր իւր Տիգրան վերջին, թագաւորեալ Հայոց ի քսաներորդի եւ ի չորրորդի ամի Պերոզի Պարսից արքայի. եւ երկայնակեաց եղեալ ամս քառասուն եւ երկու` մեռանի, ոչ ինչ գործ արութեան արժանի յիշատակի ցուցեալ, այլ ի յաղջկանէ միոջէ յունէ ի կալանս ըմբռնեալ, ի ժամանակին յորում վախճանեցաւն Տիտոս երկրորդ թագաւոր Հռոմայեցւոց, որ անուանեցաւն Անտոնինոս Աւգոստոս:	64:2 Tiran was succeeded by his brother, the last Tigran, who came to the throne of Armenia in the twenty-fourth year of Peroz, king of Persia. He enjoyed a long life of forty-two years and died without exhibiting any brave deed worthy of record, save that he was captured by a Greek maiden at the time that the Roman emperor, Titus the Second, who was called Antoninus Augustus, died:
64:3 Եւ Պերոզ արքայ Պարսից ի Հռոմայեցւոց իշխանութիւնն արշաւեաց, ուստի եւ Պերոզ անուանեցաւ, որ է յաղթող. քանզի յառաջ անուանէր Վաղեգեսոս ի յունաց լեզուն. բայց թէ Պարսք զի՛նչ կոչեն զնա, ոչ գիտեմ:	64:3 Peroz, king of Persia, invaded the Roman empire, whence he gained the name Peroz, which means “victor.” He was previously called Vaḷegesos in the Greek tongue. But what the Persians called him I do not know:
64:4 Արդ` յասպատակելն Պերոզի ընդ Ասորիս ի կողմանս Պաղեստինացւոց, վասն նորա եւ հրամանաւ նորին` եւ մերն Տիգրան ի Միջերկրեայս ասպատակեալ եւ ի կալանս ըմբռնեալ յաղջկանէ միոջէ իշխելոյ կողմանցն այնոցիկ, մինչ դեռ Ղուկիանոս կեսար յԱթէնս զմեհեանն շինէր. որոյ եւ անցեալ զաւրաւք բազմաւք ի Միջերկրեայսն յետ մեռանելոյն Պերոզի նուաճեաց զՀայս, եւ արձակեաց զՏիգրան:	64:4 Now when Peroz invaded the regions of Palestine through Syria, on his behalf and at his command our Tigran also invaded the Mediterranean regions. And he was captured by a princess who ruled those lands at the time that the Emperor Lucianos was building the temple in Athens. The latter passed with many troops into the Mediterranean regions after the death of Peroz, subdued Armenia, and freed Tigran:
64:5 Ետ զՌոփի զկոյս, զմերձաւոր իւր, նմա կնութեան, զոր եկեալ ի Հայս ի բաց թողու, եւ զլեալ ի նմանէ պատանիս չորս` ազգ սերէ յանուն մաւրն իւրեանց Ռոփեայ` Ռոփսեան. եւ զառաջին մանկանցն` գլուխ նահապետ կացուցանէ, եւ կարգէ ընդ այլ նախարարութիւնս, զի մի՛ անուանեսցին Արշակունիք:	64:5 He gave him in marriage the maiden Ṙop’i, a relative of his. But when he, Tigran came back to Armenia, he abandoned her. The four young men born from her he ennobled and entitled Ṙopsean after their mother Ṙop’i, lest they be called Arsacids:
64:6 Եւ այլ որ ինչ կրտսերագոյն ազգք, եթէ աստ եւ եթէ զկողմամբք Կորճէից, հաստատէ այս Տիգրան. որք միանգամ անազգիք էին ի վաշտս եւ անձամբ երեւելիք, եւ վասն նորա փրկութեան պատերազմեալ ընդ Յոյնս, որք ի Կորճէից եւ որք ի մերմէ կողմանէս, զյառաջագունից ասեմ, մաւտաւորաց Վճենից, ի զարմից Հայկազանց, ոմանք եւ յեկաց:	64:6 The first of the children he made chief prince and enrolled among the other noble families. But as for the lesser families either here or in the regions of Korchēk’, they were established by this Tigran. Although they were undistinguished in military service, yet they were personally renowned and had fought the Greeks for his release; some came from Korchēk’ and some from our region - I mean the ancient neighbors of the Vchenik’ from the descendants of the Haykazunk’ - and some were descended from immigrants:
64:7 Զոր ոչ անուամբ պատմեսցուք. է ինչ` որ վասն յայտնի լինելոյ մեզ, եւ է ինչ` որ վասն աշխատութեան, ի վաստակելն խոյս տալով. երրորդ, զի եւ անհաստատութիւնն բազմաց` կարծիս ի ներքս ածէ ընդ բնաւն անցանել:	64:7 We shall not discuss them by name, partly because all is not clear to us, partly because we are avoiding the labor of such work, and third because the lack of certainty about many of them introduces doubts in any complete listing:
64:8 Եւ այսորիկ աղագաւ ոչ ինչ վասն այնց ազգաց, որք ի վերջնոյն Տիգրանայ կարգեցան, ճառեսցուք, թէեւ բազում անգամ վասն այսր ի մէնջ աղերսիցես. այլ միայն զորս հաւաստին գիտեմք զկնիսն:	64:8 For this reason we shall say nothing about those families that were established by the last Tigran, although you have frequently begged us to do so, but we shall speak only of the subsequent events that we know for certain:
64:9 Զի որչափ էր հնար` փախեաք յաւելորդ եւ ի պաճուճեալ բանից, եւ որ ինչ յանհաւաստին հայէր բանն եւ մտածութիւնն. միայն զհետ երթալով ըստ կարողութեան` որ ինչ այլուստ եւ կամ ի մէնջ` զարդարոյն եւ զճշմարտի:	64:9 So far as was possible we have avoided superfluous and elaborate accounts and whatever words and conclusions tended to unreliability, and followed to the best of our ability only what was right and true:
64:10 Զնոյն եւ աստանաւր պատրաստելով` արգելում զընթացս բանիցս յոչ պատշաճէն եւ որ զանհաւաստութեանն ի ներքս ածել ակնարկէ կարծիս:	64:10 whether from other sources or from our own knowledge. Observing the same principle here, I am keeping the course of my story free from what is unsuitable and what would encourage the introduction of doubt and disbelief:
64:11 Եւ զքեզ, որպէս բազում անգամ, եւ այժմ աղաչեմ, մի՛ յաւելորդսն հարկաւորել զմեզ, եւ սակաւ եւ կամ յոլով բանիւք` զմեծ եւ զհաւաստի բովանդակ աշխատութիւնս մեր ընդ վայր եւ աւելորդ ցուցանել գործ. զի նմանագոյնս որպէս ինձ` եւ քեզ գործէ վտանգս:	64:11 And I beg you now again, as often before, not to impose superfluous tasks on us, nor by few or many words to turn our whole great reliable labor into a purposeless and superfluous work, for that brings equal danger to you as to me:
