11:1 Եւ ապա յանձն արարեալ զնոսա ամենապահ շնորհացն Աստուծոյ, եւ ինքն առեալ զթագաւորն՝ խաղայր գնացեալ երթայր, զի եւ յայլ կողմանս ամենայն սահմանացն Հայաստան աշխարհին սերմանեսցեն զբանն կենաց:

11:1 Then, entrusting them to the all-protecting grace of God, Gregory took the king and departed, so that the word of life might germinate in other places within all the borders of the land of Armenia:

11:2 Եւ երթայր հասանէր ի Դարանաղեաց գաւառն, զի եւ անդ զանուանելոցն զսուտ աստուածոցն զբագինսն կործանեսցեն, որ էր ի գեաւղն Թորդան, մեհեան անուանեալ սպիտակափառ դիցն Բարշամինայ. նախ զնա կործանէին, եւ զպատկեր նորին փշրէին. եւ զգանձսն ամենայն, զոսկւոյն եւ զարծաթոյն, աւար հարկանէին եւ զայն աղքատաց բաժանեալ բաշխէին:

11:2 He arrived at the district of Daranaghiq in order to destroy there the altars of those falsely called gods. There, in the village of Tordan, was a famous temple to the so-called god Barshamin of dazzling whiteness. First, they destroyed that and smashed his image, then they looted all the treasures of gold and silver and gave a portion to the poor:

11:3 Եւ զգեաւղն ամենայն դաստակերտաւքն հանդերձ եւ սահմանաւքն յանուն եկեղեցւոյն նուիրէին, եւ զամենափրկիչ նշանին աւրինակ եւ անդ կանգնէին:

11:3 They dedicated that village, with all its estates and borders to the name of the Church. They also erected there a copy of the all-saving sign of the cross:

11:4 Իսկ երանելւոյն վաղվաղակի զաւետարանական արուեստն ի մէջ առեալ, ձեռն արկեալ զգաւառաւն, հանդերձ միամիտ սատարութեամբ թագաւորին՝ գերէր զամենեսեան ի հայրենեացն աւանդելոց ի սատանայապաշտ դիւական ի սպասաւորութենէն ի հնազանդութիւն ծառայութեան Քրիստոսի մատուցանէր:

11:4 Then the blessed one quickly brought forth his evangelical skills of preaching. With the devoted aid of the king, Gregory took over the district and brought all of them to the obedient service to Christ, leading them from their patrimonial traditions of demonic devil worship:

11:5 Եւ յորժամ ի նոսա զբանն կենաց սերմանեալ, եւ զամենեսեան յաստուածապաշտութիւն կրթեալ, որ եւ յայտնի իսկ բնակչաց գաւառին նշանք մեծամեծք երեւեալ, կերպակերպ նմանութեամբք դիւացն փախստական լինելով անկանէին ի կողմանս» Խաղտեաց. եւ իբրեւ զնոսա եւս հաստատէր՝ ապա երթեալ հասանէր յամուր տեղին անուանեալ Անի, ի թագաւորաբնակ կայեանսն հանգստոցաց գերեզմանաց թագաւորացն Հայոց:

11:5 When the word of life germinated among them and all were educated in piety, very great signs appeared to the residents of that district, for the demons, assuming various forms, fled to the Xaghtiq areas. When the residents of Daranaghiq also had been confirmed in the faith, he went to the fortified place called Ani, the site of the royal cemetery of the kings of the Armenians:

11:6 Եւ անդ կործանեցին զբագինն Զեւս դիցն Արամազդայ, հաւրն անուանեալ դիցն ամենայնի:

11:6 There they destroyed the altar of the god Zeus-Armazd, who was called the father of all the gods:
|
11:7 Եւ անդ կանգնեալ զտէրունական նշանն, եւ զաւանն ամրականաւն հանդերձ ի ծառայութիւն եկեղեցւոյն նուիրէին:

11:7 They erected there the Lord’s sign, while they gifted in service to the Church the town and all its fortifications:
|
11:8 Եւ ապա յետ այսորիկ անդէն ի սահմանակից գաւառն Եկեղեաց ելանէր:
|
11:8 After this, Gregory went on to the bordering district of Ekegheats:
|
11:9 Եւ անդ երեւեալ դիւացն ի մեծ եւ ի բուն մեհենացն Հայոց թագաւորացն, ի տեղիս պաշտամանցն, յԱնահտական մեհենին, յԵրէզն աւանի. ուր ի նմանութիւն վահանաւոր զաւրու ժողովեալ դիւացն մարտնչէին, եւ մեծագոչ բարբառով զլերինս հնչեցուցանէին:

11:9 Here the demons appeared in the places of worship of the great and native temples of the kings of the Armenians, at the temple of Anahit in the district of Erez. It was here, in the form of an army carrying shields, that the demons gathered to fight, and they made the mountains reverberate with their great roaring:

11:10 Որք փախստականք եղեալք, եւ ընդ փախչելն նոցա կործանեալ բարձրաբերձ պարիսպքն հարթեցան:

11:10 But they were put to flight and, as they fled, the high walls fell and were levelled:
|
11:11 Եւ որք դիմեալ հասեալ էին զգաստացեալ զաւրաւքն, սուրբն Գրիգոր թագաւորաւն հանդերձ, փշրէին զոսկի պատկերն Անահտական կանացի դիցն. եւ ամենեւին զտեղին քանդեալ վատնէին, եւ զոսկին եւ զարծաթն աւար առեալ:

11:11 Those who had arrived, the converted troops, saint Gregory, and the king, broke into pieces the gold statue of the female goddess Anahit and completely destroyed and looted the place, taking the gold and silver as booty:

11:12 Եւ անտի ընդ գետն Գայլ յայնկոյս անցանէին, եւ քանդէին զՆանէական մեհեանն դստերն Արամազդայ ի Թիլն յաւանի:
|
11:12 From there they crossed to the other side of the Gayl River and destroyed the temple of Nane, Aramazd’s daughter in the hamlet of Til:

11:13 Եւ զգանձս երկոցուն մեհենացն աւարեալ ժողովեալ՝ ի նուէր սպասուց սուրբ եկեղեցւոյն Աստուծոյ թողուին տեղեաւքն հանդերձ:

11:13 The looted treasures of the two temples were gathered up and placed in service to the holy Church of God, along with the sites themselves:
