70:0 Եւ դեսպան ստիպով առ թագաւորն Վրաց Վախթանգ առնէին, տալ նոցա Հոն ըստ բանի խոստմանցն իւրոց:	70:0 They sent an emissary to Vaxt’ang, king of Iberia (Georgia), so that in accordance with his promise, he would provide them with Huns (as auxiliaries:
70:1 Եւ նա ժամավաճառ բանիւք երկայնէր զասացեալսն իւր. եւ ապա ուստեք ժողովէր Հոնս երեք հարիւր եւ առաքէր ի Հայս. եւ չեւ եւս անցեալ ամիս մի ի ձմերանւոյն` փոյթ պատճառադրութեամբ անդրէն առ ինքն կոչէր:	70:1 Wasting time with words, he delayed acting on this. But then, from somewhere, he assembled [300] Huns and sent them to Armenia. Barely one winter month had passed when he quickly recalled them to himself, on a pretext:
70:2 Եւ մնայր աշխարհիս Հայոց զաւրութիւն աւգնութեան` Քրիստոս, յոր ապաւինեալն էին եւ յուսային. այլ ի մարդկանէ ոչ ոք էր որ աւգնէր նոցա:	70:2 And the land of Armenia remained protected by the strength of Christ’s aid, in whom (the Armenians) took refuge in and depended upon; but there were no people to aid them:
70:3 Առաքէր զաւրավարն Հայոց Մամիկոնեանն Վահան յերեւելի եւ յականաւոր ազգն Արծրունեաց, եւ յազգս գաւառին Անձեւացեաց եւ Մոկաց, եւ առ ազատորեարն Ռըշտունեաց. տայր գիտել, եթէ ո՛րպէս յառաջնումն աւգնեաց Աստուած յուսացելոց իւրոց, եւ ասէր, թէ «Զճշմարիտ եւ զարդար աւրինացս մերոց զհաւատ եւ զքարոզութիւն իւրաքանչիւր ոք ի ձէնջ քաջ գիտէք, եւ ոչ էք կարաւտ յումեքէ ուսանել, այլ եւ զտոչորումն իբրեւ զհնոց մոլորութեան մոգուցն տեսէք, թէ ո՛րպէս վառեալ այրեաց զամենեցուն ոգիս բաց ի սակաւուց:	70:3 Vahan Mamikonean, the general of Armenia, sent (a message) to the prominent and noteworthy azg of Arcrunik’, to the azgs of the district of Anjewac’ik’ and Mokk’, and to the azatorear of Reshtunik’ informing them of how God had helped those who placed their hopes on Him. (He continued): “Each of you knows the belief and preaching of our correct and true faith quite well, and need not learn it from anyone. You have also seen how the error of the mages, burning like a furnace has ignited and scorched the souls of all but a few:
70:4 Արդ` աւադիկ եհաս ժամ արդար մշակին Քրիստոսի, որոյ առեալ զհեծանոցն սրբել զկալ իւր, եւ զցորեանն մաքրեալ` յերկնից շտեմարանս ժողովէ, եւ զյարդն անշէջ յաւիտենից հրոյն մատնէ յայրումն:	70:4 Behold the hour of Christ’s just mshak has arrived, who takes the hay-rake to sweep his threshing-floor. Cleaning the grain, he puts it in the heavenly grainaries, and throws the stalks into the eternal, unquenchable fire, for burning:
70:5 Եւ արդ` որ ոք կամի լինել ցորենահատ` ընծայեսցէ զինքն Աստուծոյ, եւ կեցցէ. եւ որ ոք յետս ընկրկեալ յարդեսցի՝ յաւիտենից եւ անանց գեհենին եղեալ լուցկիք այրեսցի եւ մի՛ շիջցի:	70:5 Now whoever wishes to be the grain, will give himself to God’s service and live. Whoever draws back, as the straw, will be tinder for the eternal, unpassable Gehenna, will burn, and not be extinguished:
70:6 Եւ ես ոչ զոք բռնաբարելով քարշեմ յաւգուտ իւրաքանչիւր անձին, այլ յորդորելով յիշեցուցանեմ ամենեցուն զփրկութիւն եւ զկորուստ, որ դիպի յայցելութեան աւուրն:	70:6 I will not forcibly drag anyone to do something for his own benefit, but rather with exhortation I will remind everyone about the salvation or destruction he may encounter on the day of (Christ’s) visit:
70:7 Քանզի որ ոք խոստովանի զճշմարտութիւնն` փրկի եւ գեհենէն, եւ որ ոք սայթաքեալ մոլորի յուղղորդ ճանապարհէն` զանգիւտ կորուստն կորնչի:	70:7 For whoever confesses the truth will be saved from Gehenna, but whoever slips and strays from the direct road will be irretrievably lost:
70:8 Արդ` որ ոք հոգացեալ խնդրէ զգիւտ անձին եւ տենչի անմահ կենացն լինել ժառանգորդ` եկա՛յք խնդրել զվրէժ եկեղեցւոյ թշնամանաց, որով թշնամանեցաւ ի բազում ժամանակաց եւ ամաց յարհամարհող ուրացողացն:	70:8 Now let whoever is concerned about his own salvation and longs to inherit immortal life come and seek vengeance on the enemies of the Church, which has been the object of the apostates’ scorn and hostility for years:
70:9 Եւ որ ոք խորհիք զմարմնոյ երկիւղ եւ ծառայել ցանկայք մոլորութեանն բարբանջմանցն` բնակեցէ՛ք ի խաւարի, չ եղեալք արժանիք հայել յարդարութեան արեգակն Քրիստոս. այլ ինձ հոգողապէս բողոքոյս հատուսցէ վարձս արդար վարձահատոյցն Քրիստոս:	70:9 Whoever thinks about physical dread and is desirous of serving the nonsense of deviation will live in gloom and be unworthy to look at Christ, the sun of justice. For this, my soulful protest, may Christ, the just remunerator, recompense me:
70:10 Եւ լուեալ զայս պատգամ չորեցունց գաւառաց նախարարացն, կէսքն փափաքեալք աջոյ կողմանն` գրոհ տուեալ ընթանային ի հաւտ ոչխարացն ժամանել. եւ այլք ընդ դասակս այծեաց ձախակողմեան հաղորդեալք` գնային անդարձութեամբ ի խաւարն արտաքին:	70:10 When the naxarars of the four districts heard this message, half of them (who were desirous of (sitting) on the right hand (of God) stormed out to join the flock (of Christ’s) sheep. Others, who were in communication with the wrong side, among the ranks of the goats, went unswervingly to the outer darkness:
70:11 Ոմն յԱնձաւացեաց նախարարացն սեպուհ, որում անուն էր Յոհան, եւ միւս եւս Երուանդունի, Ներսեհ անուն, միաբանեալ ի խնդիր բարի ցանկութեան, ընդ որս եւ հաւանեալ եւ այլ արք ճշմարտութեան նուիրիչք` գնային խառնել ի գունդն զաւրավարին Հայոց Վահանայ Մամիկոնենի:	70:11 A certain sepuh of the Anjewac’ik’ naxarars, whose name was Yohan, as well as an Eruanduni named Nerseh, allied with other men dedicated to the truth to accomplish good, went off to join the brigade of Vahan Mamikonean, the general of Armenia:
70:12 Եւ մինչդեռ ժողովեալ գնային ի ճանապարհի, մերձեալք ի քաղաքագեաւղն որ կոչի Առեստ, ի ժամանակի քառասնորդացն պահոց, ի մեծի շաբաթու զատկին, յանկարծակի յանզգաստից եկեալ հասանէին ի վերայ նոցա իշխանն Անձեւացեաց Սեւուկ անուն եւ իշխանն Մոկաց Յոհան անուն, բազում այրուձիով, ընդ առաւաւտուն ծագել:	70:12 Having assembled and having set out on the journey, they approached the town [k’aghak’ageoghn] called Arhest during great Easter Week, the time of the forty-day fasting period. Suddenly, at daybreak, without warning, they were attacked by the prince of Andzewac’ik’, named Sewuk, and the prince of Mokk’, named Yohan, with many cavalrymen:
70:13 Եւ սոցա զգացեալ՝ կէսքն զինեալք եւ կէսքն թէպէտ անպատրաստք էին, այլ աւգնութեամբն Բարձրելոյն քաջալերեալք` հարկանէին ի դիմի աներկիւղապէս. եւ նախ Ներսեհ Երուանդունի յարձակէր ի վերայ իշխանին Մոկաց Յոհանայ, եւ հարեալ նիզակաւ, աւգնելով նմա եւ Անձեւացւոց սեպհին Յոհանայ` յերկիր կործանէին:	70:13 When they realized what was happening, although half of them were armed and the other half were unprepared, nonetheless, encouraged with aid from On High, they fearlessly struck out at them. First Nerseh Eruanduni attacked Yohan, prince of Mokk’ piercing him with his spear, and assisted by Yohan, the Anjewac’ik’ sepuh, sent (Yohan Mokk’) to the ground:
70:14 Որոյ ասացեալ էր երբեմն հպարտաբար պարծելով զԱնձեւացի սեպհէն Յոհանայ, թէ «Նմա, որպէս կովու, բայց թէ անուր եւեթ պիտի արկանել. այլ նա ումպիտոյ է յայլ իրս, յաւգուտ կամ ի վնաս:	70:14 This man (Yohan Mokk’) had once said boastfully regarding Yohan, the Anjewac’ik’ sepuh: “He is like a cow, and needs only to have a collar put on his neck. He is incapable of doing anything for anyone, beneficial or harmful:
70:15 Եւ լուեալ պատասխանի յազգակցէն Յոհանայ, յիշխանէն Անձեւացեաց Սեւկոյ, թէ «Զանուրն ե՛ս բերեմ, բայց արկջիր դո՛ւ ի պարանոցն:	70:15 Yohan’s relative Sewuk, the prince of Anjewac’ik’, heard this and replied: “I will bring the collar; you fasten it around his neck:
70:16 Որ յաղագս ամբարտաւանութեան բանիցն, հարեալ կովուն եղջերբն չարաչար` ընկեաց յերկիր յերիվարէն եւ կոխեաց:	70:16 As a result of his impious words, he fell from his horse and was wickedly mauled by the horns of a cow and trampled:
70:17 Եւ զայն տեսեալ զաւրացն բազմութեանն` ի փախուստ դառնային. զորոց զհետ եղեալ` զոմանս սպանանէին եւ զմնացեալսն փախստականս արարեալ ցրուէին աստ եւ անդր:	70:17 When the multitude of the troops saw this, they turned in flight. They were pursued. Some of them were killed, while others were sent fleeing dispersed here and there:
70:18 Եւ անդէն յայտնապէս ճանաչեալ եւ փառաւորեալ զԱստուծոյ զաւրութիւնն, որ անկազմ սակաւուքն զայնչափ բազմութիւն զաւրացն ցրուեաց, վեր ի վայր պատմեալ հնչէր լուր անկարծելի գործոյս այսորիկ յամենայն աշխարհիս Հայոց ահ հզաւրին Աստուծոյ:	70:18 They clearly recognized and glorified the power of God which caused so few, unorganized troops to scatter such a multitude. News of this extraordinary event was related all over the land of Armenia:
70:19 Եկեալ այնուհետեւ սեպուհն Անձեւացւոցն Յոհան եւ Ներսեհ Երուանդունի եւ արքն որ ընդ նոսա, յորոց ձեռն արար Աստուած զնշանսն եւ զզաւրութիւնսն, եւ տեսեալ զնոսա սրբոյ կաթողիկոսին Յովհաննու` տաւն ուրախութեան եւ պատարագս ընդունելիս մատուցանէին տեառն Աստուծոյ, որ շնորհեացն զյաղթութիւնն եւ բարձրացոյց զպարծանս եկեղեցւոյ միոյ սրբոյ, եւ ողջունեալ զնոսա ուրախանային ի Քրիստոս:	70:19 After this, Yohan, the Andzewac’ik’ sepuh, and Nerseh Eruanduni and the men with them arrived (at their destination). God had worked signs and powers through them. When the blessed kat’oghikos Yovhan saw them, they offered to the lord God a feast of joy and acceptable services. For God had granted them the victory and raised the splendor of the one holy Church. Saluting them, they rejoiced in Christ:
