18:0 Maurice gathers an army against the Thracians. He appoints Musheł Mamikonean general. At first the Greeks defeat their enemies; but the second time they are beaten in a great rout. The killing of Musheł:

18:1 Յայնժամ թագաւորն Յունաց հրաման տայր՝ ժողովել զաւրաց իւրոց զամենայն որ յարեւելից կողմանէ. վասն զի խաղաղութիւն էր, եւ բանք ինչ ոչ գոյին նորա ընդ Ասորիսն ի Պարսից տէրութենէն: Հրաման ետ անցուցանել զամենեսեան ընդ ծով, եւ գումարել ի կողմանս Թրակացւոց ընդդէմ թշնամւոյն:

18:1 At that time the king of the Greeks gave an order to assemble all of his troops from the eastern region, because there was peace and he had no problems in Syria from the Persian empire. He ordered them all to cross the sea and to gather in the regions of Thrace against the enemy:

18:2 Հրաման ետ դարձեալ ժողովել զամենայն այր եւ ձի ի Հայաստանեայց եւ զիշխանս նախարարացն, որք հմուտ էին եւ կարող զդէմ ունել՝ կռուել ռազմ ի նիզակամուխ ճակատի: Եւ հրաման ետ դարձեալ վերստին զաւր հանել յաշխարհէն Հայոց բազում յոյժ, զամենեսեան կամով եւ ընտրով հասակի. կազմել գունդս զարդու եւ զինու վառեալ եւ անցուցանել զամենեսեան յաշխարհն Թրակացւոց ընդդէմ թշնամւոյն. եւ Մուշեղ Մամիկոնեան զաւրագլուխ նոցա:

18:2 He further commanded all the cavalry from Armenia to assemble, and the chief nobles, (and those) who were experienced and capable of standing firm and fighting in battle in the line of spearmen. He also ordered other forces to be brought from the land of Armenia in great numbers, all of them willing and of elite stature; to be formed into battalions and that, equipped with arms, they should all cross to the land of Thrace against the enemy, and Musheł Mamikonean as their general:

18:3 Արդ՝ երթեալ նոցա ի վերայ ազգացն, որ ունին զկողմանս արեւմտից ի յեզր մեծի գետոյն Դանուբայ: Եւ եղեւ պատերազմ սաստիկ ի վերայ երեսաց երկիրն այնորիկ. խորտակեցաւ զաւրութիւն թշնամւոյն այնորիկ առաջի երեսաց զաւրացն Յունաց, եւ փախստական արարեալ յայնկոյս գետոյն Դանուբայ: Եւ ինքեանք մեծաւ յաղթութեամբ հրեշտակ աւետաւոր կայսերն եւ ամենայն պաղատոյն փութանակի առաքէին:

18:3 So, they went to attack the peoples who occupied the western regions on the bank of the great river Danube. There was a fierce war over the face of that land. The power of the enemy was crushed before the Greek army, which put them to flight across the river Danube. They themselves promptly sent a messenger bearing news of the great victory to the emperor and all the palace:

18:4 Եւ գնացեալ ինքեանք ի ներքին կողմն աշխարհին ասպատակաւ, եւ անցին ի նեղ ինչ տեղիս, աւերէին զերկիրն ամենայն, եւ հասեալ ի դիմին՝ եղեւ պատերազմ մեծ. հարին զՅոյնն եւ խորտակեցին կործանմամբ մեծաւ, եւ փախստական վարեցին առաջի իւրեանց: Եւ կալեալ զնեղ վայրն առաջի նոցա թշնամւոյն՝ վանեցին զնոսա սրով սուսերի, եւ ճողոպրեալ հազիւ հազ զերծանէին յամուրս աշխարհին Թրակացւոց:

18:4 They (the enemy) went raiding into the inner part of the land, passed through some narrow places, and ravaged the whole country. When they came face to face, there was a great battle. They defeated the Greek army and destroyed them with great slaughter, putting them to flight before them. The enemy occupied the narrow place in front of them, defeated them with the sword, and they were barely able to escape for refuge into the fastnesses of the land of Thrace:

18:5 Եւ ձերբակալ արարին զՄուշեղն Մամիկոնեան, կապեցին զբարձրաբերձ տնկոյ անտառին եւ սպանին: Եւ բազմութիւն նախարարացն եւ զաւրացն Հայաստանեայց յաւուր յայնմիկ կործանեալ սատակեցան:

18:5 They captured Musheł Mamikonean, bound him to a very high tree in the forest, and killed him. A great number of Armenian nobles and troops were exterminated and slaughtered on that day:

18:6 Ապա վերստին դարձեալ այլ զաւրս գումարեալ՝ հրամայեաց թագաւորն միայն զգուշանալ անձանց:

18:6 Then once more the king gathered another army and ordered it merely to act on the defensive:
