 2:26 And this is a copy of the edict:

2:27 Առ ամենայն ազգս տէրութեան իմոյ՝ արեաց եւ անարեաց, բազմասցի ի ձեզ ողջոյն մարդասիրութեան մերոյ. դուք ողջ լերուք, եւ մեք մեզէն ողջ եմք դիցն աւգնականութեամբ:

 2:27 To all the nations of my empire, to Aryans and non-Aryans, may the greeting of our benevolence be multiplied for you. Be well, and we ourselves are well by the help of the gods:

2:28 Առանց զձեզ ինչ աշխատ առնելոյ խաղացաք գնացաք յերկիրն Յունաց, եւ առանց գործոյ պատերազմի սիրով մարդասիրութեամբ նուաճեցաք զամենայն երկիրն մեզ ի ծառայութիւն:

 2:28 Without causing you any trouble we marched into the land of the Greeks, and without warfare by our loving benevolence we subjected the whole land to us in servitude:

2:29 Դուք զբարի զմտաւ ածէք, եւ անսպառ լերուք յուրախութեան. բայց զայս բան կատարեցէք վաղվաղակի, զոր ասեմ:

 2:29 Do you celebrate and be unstinting in rejoicing. But immediately accomplish this command which we impose:

2:30 Մեք ի մտի եդաք անվրէպ խորհրդովք խաղալ գնալ յաշխարհն արեւելից, աստուածոցն աւգնականութեամբ դարձուցանել ի մեզ զտէրութիւնն Քուշանաց. դուք իբրեւ զհրովարտակս զայս տեսանէք, անխափան վաղվաղակի այրուձի գումարեցէք առաջոյ քան զիս, յանդիման լինիջիք ինձ յԱպար աշխարհին:

 2:30 We have decided in our infallible judgment to march to the land of the East, to subject the empire of the Kushans to us with the help of the gods. When you see this edict, straightaway without impediment gather cavalry before us and meet me in the land of Apar:

2:31 Ըստ այսմ պատճենի հրովարտակ եհաս յաշխարհն Հայոց, ի Վրաց եւ յԱղուանից, եւ ի Լփնաց, ի Ծաւդէից եւ ի Կորդուաց, յԱղձնեաց եւ բազում այլ տեղեաց հեռաւորաց, որոց ոչ էին աւրէնք երթալ զայն ճանապարհ յառաջ ժամանակաւ:

 2:31 In this form the edict reached the lands of the Armenians, Georgians, Albanians, Lpink, Tsawdeik, Korduik, Aldznik, and many other distant parts which were previously not accustomed to travel that road:

2:32 Գունդ կազմէր ի Հայոց Մեծաց զազատ եւ զազատորդի, եւ յարքունի տանէ զոստանիկ մարդիկ. ըստ նմին աւրինակի ի Վրաց եւ յԱղուանից եւ յաշխարհէն Լփնաց, եւ որ այլ եւս ի կողմանց կողմանց հարաւոյ մերձ ի սահմանս Տաճկաստանի եւ ի Հոռոմոց աշխարհն եւ ի Կորդուաց եւ ի Դասն եւ ի Ծաւդէ եւ յԱրզնարզիւն, որք էին ամենեքեան հաւատացեալք եւ մկրտեալք ի մի կաթողիկէ եւ առաքելական եկեղեցի:

 2:32 A force of nobility and lesser nobility was assembled from Greater Armenia and retainers from the royal house; likewise, from Georgia, and Albania, and the land of the Lpink, and still others from all the districts of the south near the borders of Tachkastan, the Roman Empire, Korduk, Dasn, Tsawde, and Arznarzn, people who were all believers and baptized into the one catholic and apostolic church:

2:33 Եւ անմեղութեամբ ոչ գիտացեալ զերկդիմի միտս թագաւորին՝ խաղացին գնացին յիւրաքանչիւր աշխարհաց լրջմտութեամբ եւ տիրասէր խորհրդովք, կատարել զսպաս զինուորութեան աներկբայ հաւատովք:

 2:33 Innocently unaware of the king’s duplicity, they marched from each one’s land obediently and with loyal intentions in order to fulfill their military service with sincere faith:

2:34 Բարձին եւս ընդ իւրեանս զաստուածային զսուրբ կտակարանսն բազում պաշտաւնէիւք եւ քահանայիւք:

 2:34 They brought with them the divine holy testaments, with many ministers and priests:

2:35 Բայց հրաման տուեալ աշխարհի՝ ոչ իբրեւ յակնկալութիւն կենաց, այլ իբրեւ ի վճարումն վախճանի, յանձն առնելով միմեանց զոգիս եւ զմարմինս:

 2:35 But they bade farewell to their lands, not as in expectation of life, but as if they were to pay the debt of death, commending their souls and bodies to each other:

2:36 Զի թէպէտ եւ խորհուրդ թագաւորին չէր յայտնեալ նոցա, սակայն կարծիք ի մտի էին ամենեցուն. մանաւանդ իբրեւ բեկեալ տեսանէին զզաւրութիւնն Յունաց առաջի նորա, յոյժ հարեալ խոցեցան ի խորհուրդս իւրեանց:

 2:36 For although the king’s plan had not been revealed to them, yet suspicions were in everyone’s mind. Especially when they saw the power of the Greeks broken before him, they were greatly stricken in their thoughts:

2:37 Բայց քանզի պատուիրանապահք էին սուրբ կտակարանացն Աստուծոյ, հանապազ յիշէին զպատուիրեալսն ի Պաւղոսէ, եթէ Ծառայք, հպատակ լերուք տերանց ձերոց մարմնաւորաց. մի՛ սուտակասպասք եւ առ աչս աչառելով. այլ սրտի մտաւք ծառայեցէք իբրեւ Աստուծոյ եւ մի՛ իբրեւ մարդկան. քանզի ի Տեառնէ է հատուցումն արդար վաստակոց ձերոց:

 2:37 But because they were obedient to the holy testaments of God, they continually recalled the commands of Paul: “Servants, be obedient to your bodily masters; be not false servants and deceitful, but serve them faithfully as if serving God and not men. For the recompense of your just labors comes from the Lord:

2:38 Եւ այսու ամենայնիւ բարեմտութեամբ յուղարկեալք յաշխարհէ եւ յանձն եղեալք սուրբ Հոգւոյն, յանդիման լինէին՝ փութով կատարեալ զհրամանն, եւ զամենայն արարեալ ըստ կամաց նորա:

 2:38 Setting out from their lands with all this goodwill and commended to the Holy Spirit, they presented themselves to the king, hastily fulfilling his orders and doing everything according to his wishes:

2:39 Յոյժ ուրախ լինէր թագաւորն, իբր այն եթէ կատարեցան կամք կարծեաց նորա. եւ ահա առնէր ընդ նոսա զայն ինչ, զոր պաշտաւնեայքն ամբարշտութեան նորա խրատեցին:

 2:39 The king greatly rejoiced as if the desires of his thoughts had been accomplished. And behold he acted with them just as the ministers of his impiety had advised:

2:40 Ապա իբրեւ ետես թագաւորն զամենայն կազմութիւն եւ զբազմութիւն գնդին բարբարոսաց, որք սրտի մտաւք եկեալ էին ի վաստակ արքունի, առաւելապէս եւս ուրախ լինէր առաջի մեծամեծացն եւ ամենայն բազմութեան զաւրաց իւրոց:

 2:40 So, when the king saw all the armed soldiers and the multitude of the force of the barbarians who had loyally come to the royal service, he was even more happy in front of the magnates and all the host of his army:

2:41 Ի վերին երեսս թաքուցանէր զկամս մտաց իւրոց, եւ ակամայ առատապէս պարգեւէր զնոսա:

 2:41 Outwardly he hid the desires of his mind, and unwillingly bestowed lavish presents on them:

2:42 Խաղաց գնաց միանգամայն ի վերայ տէրութեան Հոնաց աշխարհին, զոր Քուշանս անուանեն. եւ զերկեամ մի կռուեալ՝ ոչ ինչ կարաց ազդել նոցա:

 2:42 He marched immediately against the kingdom of the Huns, whom they call Kushans; but after fighting for two years he was unable to make any impression on them:

2:43 Ապա արձակեաց զմարզիկսն յիւրաքանչիւր տեղիս, եւ զայլս փոխանակ նոցա առ իւր կոչեաց նովին պատրաստութեամբ:

 2:43 Then he dispatched the warriors to each one’s place, and summoned to his presence others in their stead with the same equipage:

2:44 Եւ այսպէս ամ յամէ սովորութիւն կարգեաց, եւ իւր անդէն քաղաք բնակութեան շինեաց, սկսեալ ի չորրորդ ամէ տէրութեանն իւրոյ մինչեւ յամն մետասաներորդ թագաւորութեանն:

 2:44 And thus, he established the habit from year to year and built there for himself a city to dwell in, beginning from the fourth year of his reign up to the eleventh:

2:45 Եւ իբրեւ ետես, եթէ հաստատուն կացին Հոռոմք յուխտին իւրեանց, զոր եդին ընդ նմա, եւ դադարեցին Խայլնդուրք ելանել ընդ պահակն Ճորայ, եւ յամենայն կողմանց խաղաղութեամբ բնակեաց աշխարհ նորա, եւ ի նեղ եւս էարկ զթագաւորն Հոնաց, քանզի աւերեաց զբազում գաւառս նորա եւ յաջողեցաւ տէրութիւն նորա, աւետաւորս առաքեաց ընդ ամենայն ատրուշանս աշխարհին իւրոյ. ցլուք սպիտակաւք եւ գիսաւոր նոխազաւք առատացոյց զզոհս կրակի, եւ խիտ առ խիտ թանձրացոյց անդուլութեամբ զպաշտաւն պղծութեան իւրոյ. պսակաւք եւ պատուովք մեծարեաց զբազումս ի մոգաց եւ զբազմագոյնս ի մոգպետաց:

 2:45 And when he saw that the Romans remained firm in their pact which they had with him, and that the Khaylndurk had ceased to cross the Pass of the Chor, and that in every region his empire lived in peace, and that he had put the king of the Huns into even greater straits since he had ruined most of his provinces and had prevailed over his rule, then he sent messengers throughout all the fire-temples of his land, he increased the sacrifices of fire with white bulls and hairy goats, and he assiduously multiplied his impure cult. He honored many of the magi and the greatest of the chief-magi with crowns and distinctions:

2:46 Ետ եւս հրաման յափշտակել զամենայն ինչս քրիստոնէից եւ զստացուածս, որք էին ի մէջ Պարսկաց աշխարհին:

 2:46 He gave a further command that all the goods and possessions of the Christians in Persia should be seized:

2:47 Եւ այսպէս հպարտացաւ բարձրացաւ ի միտս իւր, ի վեր քան զմարդկային բնութիւն ընդվզեալ ապարթանէր ոչ միայն յիրս մարմնական պատերազմացն, այլ մեծ ոմն զինքն կարծէր քան զբնութիւն հայրենի կարգին. վասն այնորիկ կեղծաւորութեամբ թագուցանէր զինքն ըստ կարծեացն, եւ որպէս երեւէր իմաստնոցն, յանմահից իմն կարգի դնէր զինքն:

 2:47 Thus, he waxed haughty and overweening; in his arrogance he exceeded the nature of man, not merely in the matter of physical warfare, but he began to think of himself as one superior to the nature of his ancestral rank. Therefore, he deceit fully hid his intention; but, as it appeared to the wise, he placed himself in the rank of the immortals:

2:48 Եւ յոյժ էր ցասուցեալ ընդ անունն Քրիստոսի, յորժամ լսէր՝ թէ տանջեցաւ, խաչեցաւ, մեռաւ եւ թաղեցաւ:

 2:48 He grew furious at the name of Christ, when he heard that he had been tortured and crucified, had died and been buried:

2:49 Եւ իբրեւ այսպէս աւր ըստ աւրէ ի սոյն միտս ցնորեալ դանդաչէր, մի ոմն մանկագոյն ի նախարարացն Հայոց ընդդէմ բանս եդ եւ ասէ. «Արքայ քաջ, դու ուստի՞ գիտես զայդպիսի բանս խաւսել զՏեառնէ:

 2:49 As in this fashion he madly raved from day to day in the same designs, one of the youngest of the Armenian princes debated with him and note: “Valiant king, whence did you learn to speak such things about the Lord:

2:50 Ետ պատասխանի թագաւորն եւ ասէ. «Իմ իսկ առաջի ընթերցան զգիրս մոլորութեան ձերոյ:

 2:50 The king answered: “They have read your erring Scriptures before me:
