28:0 Յաղագս մեծամեծ նշանացն եւ սքանչելեացն, որ երեւեցաւ յԱստուծոյ ի Մամբրէ յետ գնալոյն Եպիփանու:

 28:0 About the greatest signs and wonders revealed by God in Mambre after the departure of Epiphanes:

28:1 Ապա իբրեւ գնայր սուրբն Եպիփան ի գաւառէն Ծոփաց յիւրմէ միանձնանոցէն` որ անուանեալ կոչի Մամբրէ, եթող անդ բազում եղբարս միաբանս միահաւանս հաւատացեալս կրօնաւորս քրիստոնէիցն, լեառնականս ճգնաւորս միանձունս. եւ ի վերայ նոցա երէց մի գլխաւոր:

 28:1 Saint Epiphan, having retired from Gavar Tsopk, from the place of his hermitage, which was called Mambre, left there numerous brother monks, equally believing Christian monks living in the mountains of hermits, appointing one priest over them:

28:2 Բայց էին ի նոցանէ ոմանք, որ բնաւ ամենեւին այլ ինչ կերակուր չէր ճաշակեալ նոցա ի մանկութենէ իւրեանց, բայց լոկ բանջար եւ ջուր. եւ զհամ գինւոյ գիտէին ոչ զիարդ լինի:

 28:2 There were some among them who, since childhood, knew no other food except vegetables, and drank water, and did not even know the taste of wine:

28:3 Եւ էր անդ եղբայր մի խստակրօն, որ մթին վարս վարէր. եւ ոչ ճաշակէր ամենեւին ի բաժակէն կենարար փրկութեանն յուսոյն յարութեանն, այս ինքն յարենէն տեառն մերոյ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի:

 28:3 There was one ascetic brother among them who adhered to reprehensible behavior and absolutely refused to drink from the life-giving cup that gives hope for the resurrection, that is, the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ:

28:4 Զի ոչ կարէր հաւատալ` թէ ճշմարտիւ արիւն իցէ Որդւոյն Աստուծոյ, յորժամ ելանիցէ ի սեղանն Աստուծոյ. այլ նմա գինի լոկ թուէր թէ իցէ, վասն այսորիկ վիճէր հանապազ ընդ բազումս:

 28:4 For he could not believe that the wine on the altar of God was really transformed into the blood of the son of God, but thought that it remained the same wine, so he often argued with many:

28:5 Իսկ եղեւ օր մի յաւուրց, իբրեւ կատարէին անդ զխորհուրդս գոհութեան պատարագին ի վկայանոցի անդ յայնմիկ` զոր էր շինեալ սրբոյն Եպիփանու, յորժամ հանին զհացն սրբութեան եւ զգինին` արիւնանալ պատարագին ի վերայ սեղանոյն, եւ կայր եղբայրն, անհաւատ ի վկայանոցին:

 28:5 Once, when they performed the rite of the thanksgiving liturgy in the church built by Saint Epiphanes, and brought the holy bread and wine and put it on the altar where the liturgy was served so that it would turn into blood, this unbelieving brother was there in the church:

28:6 Եւ երէցն ելեալ կայր ի վերայ առաջի սրբոյ սեղանոյն. յորժամ յառաջ քան զմատուցանել զպատարագն համբառնայր զձեռս երէցն ի վերայ սեղանոյն, եւ ասէր. Տէր Աստուած զօրութեանց, որ արարեր զամենայն յոչընչէ, եւ ստեղծեր զմարդ ի հողոյ կենդանի եւ անապականացու, եւ անցին զքոյով պատուիրանօքդ, ի անկան եւ մահ` իւրեանց պատուիրանազանցութեամբն:

 28:6 The priest got up, stood in front of the holy see and, before serving the liturgy, raised his hands above the throne and note: “O Lord God Almighty, who created everything out of nothing, who created man from the earth alive and incorruptible; people transgressed your commandment and as a result of this fall were condemned to death:

28:7 Եւ արդար դատաստանօք քովք մերժեցեր զնոսա ի դրախտէն փափկութեան յայս աշխարհ` ուստի ստեղծեր, եւ գրաւեցան լինել ընդ մահապարտութեամբ. սակայն ոչ թողեր ի ձեռանէ, բարերարդ Աստուած, այլ տեսչութեամբ եւ շնորհօք միածնիդ քո վերստին ծննդեամբ նորոգեցեր զստեղծուածս քո, եւ բազում կերպարանօք այցելու եղեր արարածոց քոց:

 28:7 and by your just judgment you expelled them from the sweet paradise into this world from which you created them, and they were doomed to death. But you, most gracious God, did not forsake them, but by the care and grace of your only begotten (son) you renewed your creations with a second birth and visited your creations in many images:

28:8 Առաքեցեր զմարգարէս, արարեր զօրութիւնս ազգի ազգի նշանս ի ձեռն սրբոց քոց` որք յազգս ազգս իւրեանց հաճոյ եղեն առաջի քո. ետուր զօրէնս յօգնականութիւն, առաքեցեր հրեշտակս վերակացուս:

 28:8 You have sent prophets, you have revealed various miraculous powers and signs by the hands of your saints, who have become your saints among different peoples; you have given laws to help, you have sent angels to supervise:

28:9 Իսկ իբրեւ եկն կատարած ժամանակաց, խօսեցար ընդ մեզ միածին Որդւովդ քո` որով զաշխարհս արարել, որ է պատկեր փառաց քոց եւ կերպարանք էութեան քո, եւ կրէ զամենայն բանիւ զօրութեամբ. որ ոչ ինչ յափշտակեաց զէական Հօրն զբնութեանն հաւասար պատիւ անձինն, այլ Աստուածն յաւիտենական ի յերկրի երեւեցաւ, ընդ մարդկան շրջեցաւ, ի սրբոյ կուսէն մարմնացաւ, զկերպարանս ծառայի էառ, եւ եղեւ ի նմանութիւն տկարութեանս մերոյ, զի արասցէ զմեզ նմանակիցս փառաց իւրոց:

 28:9 And when the end of time came, he spoke to us through the medium of his only begotten son, with whom you created the world, which is a reflection of your glory, an image of your being, which endures everything with a powerful word, who, being by nature and by honor equal to the father, appeared on earth as an eternal god, walked among people, received the flesh of the holy virgin, took the form of a servant and became like us infirm, in order to make us worthy of his glory:

28:10 Զի յամենայն գայթակղութեանց եւ յամենայն մոլորութենէ փրկեցեր զմեզ. եւ բարձեր յամենայն երկրէ զանյուսութիւն թերահաւատութեան, եւ ետուր զյուսոյ զհաւատս յարութեան ամենայն քոց արարածոց, որոց եւ զնմանութիւն պատկերի կերպարանաց քոց շնորհեցեր:

 28:10 You saved us from every temptation and delusion, abolished all hopeless lack of faith on earth, and you gave hope and faith to all your creatures in the resurrection and likeness to your image and face, and gave life to everyone in general by the faith that you strengthened in people:

28:11 Եւ հաւատովքն, զոր ետուր զօրանալ ի մարդիկ, զամենեսեան առ հասարակ միանգամայն կեցուցեր շնորհելով. զի ոչ եթէ վասն արդարութեանց ինչ մերոց, զի ոչ ինչ արարաք զբարիս ի վերայ երկրի, այլ վասն ողորմութեան եւ գթութեան քո` զոր սփռեցեր ի մեզ` համարձակիմք խնդրել ի սրտագէտէդ, որ քննես զսիրտս եւ զերիկամունս որդւոց մարդկան:

 28:11 All this was done not for the sake of our righteousness, for we have not done any good in the world, but for the sake of your mercy and compassion, which you have spread out on us, we dare to ask you, a heart specialist who understands the hearts and kidneys of people:

28:12 Դու, տէր, սրտագէտ յամենայնի, դու գիտես զճշմարտութեան զվաստակոց զառնս զայսորիկ, զի խստամբերութեամբ վարի ի վարս վաստակոց իւրոց, եւ չիք հաւատք ի սմա. արդ յաւել ի սա հաւատս քան զհատ մանանխոյ, զի մի՛ կորիցէ անձն սորա:

 28:12 You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, know the true asceticism of this man who leads a strict ascetic life, but he lacks faith; so give him faith in the size of one mustard seed, so that he does not disappear:

28:13 Հովիւ քաջ, որ ելերդ ի խնդիր ոչխարին կորուսելոյ, եւ եդիր զանձն քո ի վերայ խաշանց քոց, արդ եւ զսա փրկեա ի թերահաւատութենէս` յոր ըմբռնեալս է, զի մի՛ յափշտակեսցէ թշնամին զանձն սորա, եւ քո ստեղծուածս եւ նմանութիւն կերպարանացս յապականութիւն յաւիտենական կորստեան մատնեսցի:

 28:13 O good shepherd, who went out to look for a lost sheep, who laid down his life for his sheep, save him too from the lack of faith with which he is possessed, so that the enemy does not kidnap him and so that he created in your image and likeness is not subjected to eternal destruction:

28:14 Եւ զայս աղօթս մատուցանէր երէցն յառաջ քան զմատուցանելն պատարագին, եւ յետ այսորիկ մատոյց կատարեաց զպատարագամատոյցն զամենայն:

 28:14 He performed this prayer before the liturgy, then began the liturgy and completed the entire rite:

28:15 Իբրեւ ասաց` Հայր մեր որ յերկինս, եդ ծունր եւ կայր յաղօթս յերկար:

 28:15 Having said, “Our Father, who art in heaven,” he knelt down and prayed for a long time:

28:16 Եւ մինչ դեռ եդեալ էր նորա ծունր եւ կայր յաղօթս, եւ կայր եղբայրն թերահաւատ ի յոտն, ի խոնարհ ի բեմէն նայէր ի սեղանն, սկսաւ տեսանել մեծամեծ սքանչելիս աչօք բացօք իւրովք:

 28:16 And while he was kneeling and praying, the little-believing brother, standing on his feet, looked down from the pulpit at the altar and with open eyes saw the greatest miracle:

28:17 Քանզի տեսանէր զՔրիստոս, զի իջեալ կայր ի վերայ սեղանոյն. եւ բացեալ էր իւր զվէրսն ի կողմանէ, զոր ի կողսն գեղարդեամբն խոցեցին. եւ ի վիրէ կողիցն արիւնն ցնցղկացեալ հոսէր ի բաժակ անդր պատարագին, որ եդեալ էր ի վերայ սեղանոյն:

 28:17 He saw Christ come down on the altar, opened a wound on his side, formed from a spear wound, and from the wound on his side, blood oozed drop by drop into the liturgical cup that stood on the altar:

28:18 Իսկ իբրեւ ետես զայս եղբայրն թերահաւատ կրօնաւորն, զարհուրեալ դողացեալ խռովեալ տագնապեալ յերկիր կործանեալ կայր, ի բերանս հարեալ, պարտեալ թալացեալ ոգին սպառեալ յինքենէ:

 28:18 The little-believing brother monk, seeing this, was horrified and trembled, agitated and confused, fell to the ground, with numb lips, exhausted and breathless, fainted:

28:19 Ապա երէցն յարուցեալ կատարեաց զգործ սրբութեան պատարագին. իջուցեալ զսրբութիւն օրինացն ի բեմբէն, ետես զեղբայրն, զի յերկիր կործանեալ թալացեալ կայր:

 28:19 And the priest, having risen (from prayer), finished the sacrament of the holy liturgy and when he lowered the holy communion from the pulpit, he saw that brother who was lying senseless on the ground:

28:20 Իբր ետ ում տալ էր զօրէնսն, եւ եհան զմնացորդսն ի սեղանն, ապա ինքն մատուցեալ բուռն հարկանէր զեղբօրէն. եւ տեսանէր, զի նա թալացեալ պակուցեալ կայր ի գետնին:

 28:20 After giving communion to whom he should, he took the remains again and put them on the altar and, going down, touched his brother and saw that he was fainting on the ground:

28:21 Ապա ջուր արկանէր ընդ բերանաւն. իսկ նա ուրեմն եբեր զոգի. եւ զգաստացեալ, մատեաւ եկաց պատմեաց զմեծամեծ սքանչելիսն` զոր ինչ ետեսն:

 28:21 He brought water, sprinkled it on his lips; when he finally sighed and woke up, he got up and told the great miracle he had seen:

28:22 Ապա կամեցաւ տալ նմա երէցն ի սրբութենէն անտի օրինացն. իսկ եղբայրն չհաւանեալ չառնոյր յանձն, վասն զի անարժան համարէր զանձն իւր:

 28:22 Then the priest wanted to give him communion, but that brother did not agree and did not take communion, because he considered himself unworthy:

28:23 Այլ հոր հատեալ անձինն, ի ներքս իջեալ, զեւթն ամ ապաշխարեալ զթերահաւատութիւն մեղաց իւրոց, եւ յետ եւթն ամին ապա զանձն արժանի ապաշխարութեան համարէր, ելանել առնուլ ընդ օրէնսն հաւասարել:

 28:23 But he dug himself a pit and in it for seven years he repented of the sin of lack of faith, and after seven years he considered that his repentance was completed, came out from the pit to take communion with others:

28:24 Սակայն ի նոյն հոր իջուցեալ զանձն իւր զամենայն աւուրս կենաց իւրոց, մինչեւ ի նմին հոր վաղճանեցաւ եղբայրն:

 28:24 And again he sank into the same pit all the days of his life, and in the same pit this brother died:

28:25 Ապա եւ նոյն երէցն հանգեաւ, եւ ի միասին երկոքին եղան ի ներքս ի վկայանոցին, ուր սքանչելիք երեւեցան յեղբայրանոցին Եպիփանու:

 28:25 Then that priest also died, and both of them were buried inside the chapel, in the monastery of Epiphanes, where this miracle appeared:
