9:0 Ի Քրիստոս հաւատալ եւ մկրտիլ Անուշըռուան Խոսրովայ: Մարզպանք եւ զաւրավարք Պարսից որ եկին ի Հայս յետ Վարդանայ մինչեւ ցբարձումն Սասանեան տէրութեանն:

 9:0 The belief in Christ and baptism of Anushěṙuan Khosrov. The Persian marzpans and generals who came to Armenia after Vardan down to the end of Sasanian rule:

9:1 Այս Խոսրով, որ կոչեցաւ Անուշըռուան՝ ի ժամանակս իւրոյ թագաւորութեանն, յառաջ քան զապստամբութիւնս զայս, հաստատեաց զերկիր, քանզի էր խաղաղասէր եւ աշխարհաշէն: Եւ ի լինել ապստամբութեանն այնորիկ, յայնմ հետէ ընդոստուցեալ զարթեաւ ի բարկութիւն, զանձն անվնաս համարեալ իբր թէ՝ Հայր էի ամենայն երկրի, եւ ոչ տէր, եւ սնուցեալ զամենեսեան իբրեւ որդի եւ սիրելի:

 9:1 This Khosrov, who was called Anush Ĕṙuan, during the period of his reign before this rebellion restored the land, because he was a lover of peace and promoter of prosperity. When that rebellion occurred, thenceforth he was prompted and aroused to anger, reckoning himself blameless on the grounds that: ’I was a father to the whole country and not a master, and I cared for them all like sons and friends:

9:2 Եւ արդ՝ ասէ, ի նոցանէ խնդրեսցէ Աստուած զարիւնս զայս: Այս Խոսրով ի ժամանակս իւրոյ թագաւորութեանն կապեաց զՊահակն Ճորայ եւ Աղուանից. կալաւ ձերբակալ զարքայն Եգերացւոց, եւ առ մարտիւ զԱնտիոք Պիսիդացւոց, եւ գերեալ նստոյց առ թագաւորական կայանին:

 9:2 So now’, he said, ’God will seek (vengeance for) this blood from them. ’ This Khosrov, during the time of his reign, closed the Passes of the Chor and of the Ałuank’; he captured the king of the Egerians, and seized by arms Antioch in Pisidia. The captives he settled at the royal residence:

9:3 Շինեալ քաղաք եւ անուանեալ զնա Վեհ Անջատոք Խոսրով, զոր անուանեալ Շահաստան-ի Նոկնոյ կոչեն: Եւ առ սա զԴարա եւ զԿաղնիկոս, գերեաց ասպատակաւ եւ զկողմանս Կիւղիկէացւոց:

 9:3 He built a city and named it Veh Anjatok’ Khosrov, which they call Shahastan-i Nok-noy. He also captured Dara and Kalinikos, and seized in a raid the region of Cilicia:

9:4 Կալաւ սա զթագաւորութիւնն ամս [ԽԸ]: Եւ ի ժամ վախճանին ծագեալ փայլակնացեալ զնովաւ լոյս աստուածային Բանին. քանզի հաւատաց ի Քրիստոս, ասելով այսպէս. «Հաւատամ ի միայն Աստուած, յայն՝ որ արար զերկինս եւ զերկիր, զոր քրիստոնեայքդ պաշտել խոստովանին, Հայր եւ Որդի եւ Հոգի Սուրբ. զի նա միայն է Աստուած, եւ այլ ոչ գոյ բաց ի նմանէ, զոր քրիստոնեայքն պաշտեն:

 9:4 He held the throne for [48] years. At the time of his death the light of the divine Word shone splendidly around him; for he believed in Christ, saying as follows: ’I believe in one God, who created heaven and earth, whom the Christians profess to worship: Father and Son and holy Spirit. For he only is God, and there is none save him whom the Christians worship. ’:

9:5 Եւ հրաման տուեալ սպասաւորացն՝ զմոգպետն արձակել արքունի ի հեռագոյն տեղիս ի գործ, եւ զայլսն մերժեալ յարքունական կայենիցն, եւ կոչեալ զեպիսկոպոսապետն, որ Երան կաթուղիկոս անուանի, մկրտեցաւ ի նմանէ, եւ հրամայեաց ժամ առնել ի սենեկին, եւ ընթեռնուլ զտէրունական Աւետարանին զպատգամս, եւ հաղորդեցաւ կենդանարար մարմնոյ եւ արեանն Տեառն, եւ հրաժարեալ ի կաթողիկոսէն եւ ի տէրունեան Աւետարանէն՝ եւ արձակեն զնա յիւր տեղին:

 9:5 He commanded his servants to send the royal mogpet to distant places on duty, and to remove the others from the royal residence. He summoned the archbishop, who was called Eran Catholicos, and was baptized by him. He ordered the liturgy to be celebrated in his room and the precepts of the Lord’s Gospel to be read, and he communicated in the life-giving body and blood of the Lord. Then he took leave of the Catholicos and of the Lord’s Gospel, and sent him to his own place:

9:6 Եւ ապա զկնի սակաւ ինչ աւուրց ննջեաց ի բարւոք ծերութեան իւրում. եւ բարձեալ զմարմին նորա քրիստոնէիցն՝ տարեալ եդին ի շիրիմս թագաւորացն: Եւ թագաւորէ Որմիզդ որդի նորա յետ նորա:

 9:6 Then after a few days he fell asleep in his good old age. The Christians took his body and placed it in the sepulcher of the kings. His son Ormizd reigned after him:

9:7 Եւ արդ՝ այս են զաւրավարք արքային Պարսից, որ եկին մի ըստ միոջէ յերկիրս Հայոց՝ յապստամբութենէ Վարդանայ Մամիկոնէից տեառն որդւոյն Վասակայ, մինչեւ ցայսաւր ժամանակի: Ոմանք մեռան ի պատերազմի, եւ ոմանք պատերազմեցան, եւ ոմանք յաղթութիւն գործեցին եւ գնացին:

 9:7 Now these are the generals of the Persian king who came one after the other to this land of Armenia: from the rebellion of Vardan lord of the Mamikoneans, son of Vasak, down to the present time. Some were killed in battles, some fought battles, others gained a victory and departed:

9:8 Յորժամ սպանին զՍուրէն մարզպան՝ ի նմին ամի եկն Վարդան Վշնասպ ոմն, եւ գործ ինչ ոչ կարաց գործել. եկաց ամ մի եւ գնաց:

 9:8 When they killed the marzpan Surēn, in that same year came a certain Vardan Vshnasp; but he was unable to accomplish any undertaking. He stayed for one year and departed:

9:9 Ապա եկն եւ Գողոնն Միհրանն [Ի] հազարաւ զաւրաց սպառազինաց եւ փղաւք բազմաւք, եւ ունէր նա ընդ ինքեան սատարս բազումս ի ճամբարէ անթիւ ազգացն, որ բնակեալն են ընդ լեռնակողմամբն Կովկասու ազգք Հոնաց, եւ հրաման յարքայէն՝ զի անճետս արասցեն զարս ի յաշխարհէն Հայոց, խլել, բրել, յատակել եւ անխնայ յերկիր կործանել:

 9:9 Then came Golon Mihran with [20,000] fully armed troops and many elephants. He had with him many auxiliaries from the forces of the innumerable races who dwell along the mountainous Caucasus - the races of the Huns - and also a command from the king to extirpate the men from the country of Armenia: to root out, dig out, exterminate and mercilessly destroy the land:

9:10 Եւ եկեալ նա, բայց եթէ ուրեք յանմատոյց ամրոցաց ուրեմն մնացեալ ապրեցան մարդիկ եւ կամ թէ՝ ուրեք ի հեռագոյն աշխարհս փախստական գնացին: Բայց սակայն ոչ կարացին բազումք ճողոպրել. քանզի զորս գտանէին՝ սուր ի վերայ եդեալ սատակէին: Սա արար կռիւ մի ի Վիրս, եւ պարտեցաւ: Եկն ի Հայս, եւ առ զԱնկղ սուտ երդմամբ:

 9:10 He arrived, but the populace survived by staying somewhere in some inaccessible fortresses or by fleeing to remote lands. However, many were unable to escape because they (the Persians) put to the sword and slew those whom they found. He waged war in Iberia and was defeated. He came to Armenia and seized Angł by a false oath:

9:11 Փիլիպպոս, Սիւնեաց տէր. արար կռիւ մի ընդ քաղաք եւ ընդ Խաղամախիս. եւ վերստին կռիւ մի ի Վանանդ, ի յՈւթմսու գեղ, եւ յերկոսեանն պարտեցաւ. եկաց նա ամս [Է] եւ գնաց:

 9:11 P’ilippos, lord of Siwnike, waged a battle at the city and at Khalamakhik’, and another battle in Vanand at the village of Ut’mus. In both he was defeated. He stayed for seven years and departed:

9:12 Ապա եկն ինքն արքայն Անուշըռուան Խոսրով, որպէս ասացի, եւ արար պատերազմ մի մեծ ի Մեղիտինէ, յորում պարտեցաւ եւ գնաց:

 9:12 Then king Anush Ĕṙuan Khosrov came himself, as I said, and fought a great battle at Melitene in which he was defeated; then he left:

9:13 Ապա եկն Տամ Խոսրով, եւ արար երկու կռիւս, մի՝ ի Բասեան ի Բոլորապահակի, ուր Մուրց եւ Երասխ խառնին, եւ մի՝ ի Բագրեւանդ, ի Կըթնի: Եւ յերկոսինն յաղթութիւն գործեաց մեծամեծ. եկաց երկուս ամս եւ գնաց:

 9:13 Then came Tam Khosrov. He made two campaigns: one in Basean at Bolorapahak where the Murtse and Araxes join; and one in Bagrewand at Kt’ni. In both he won a splendid victory. He stayed for two years and departed:

9:14 Ապա եկն Վարազ Վզուրն եւ արար կռիւ մի ի Վանանդ ի յՈւթմսու գեղ, որ եւ նախ վանեցաւ, եւ ապա յաղթեաց. եկաց ամ մի եւ գնաց:

 9:14 Then came Varaz Vzur; he waged a battle in Vanand at the village of Ut’mus, where at first, he was defeated, and then was victorious. He stayed for one year and departed:

9:15 Ապա եկն ասպետն մեծ պարթեւն եւ պահլաւն, եւ արար կռիւ մի ի Շիրակաւանին եւ յաղթեաց. եկաց եւթն ամ եւ գնաց:

 9:15 Then came the great Parthian and Pahlaw aspet. He made a campaign in Shirakawan and was victorious. He stayed for seven years and departed:

9:16 Ապա Հրահատն մարզպան, որ գնաց ի Մրծունին իւրայնոցն սատար ի պատերազմ. եւ անդ նոքա պարտեցան եւ ապա յաղթութիւն ստացան: Եւ անտի դարձեալ՝ արար կռիւ մի ի Բզնունիս ի Ծաղկաջուրն եւ յաղթեաց. եկաց չորս ամիս՝ եւ գնաց:

 9:16 Then the marzpan Hrahat, who went to Nisibis as ally of his own people in battle. There they were defeated, and then gained a victory’. Returning from there he waged another campaign in Bznunik’ at Tsałkajur and was victorious. He stayed for four years and departed:

9:17 Ապա եկն Հրատրին Դատան մարզպան: Ապա այնուհետեւ ոչ կարացին Պարսիկք պատերազմաւ զդէմ ունել զաւրացն Յունաց: Առ սովաւ սպանաւ Որմիզդ, եւ թագաւորեաց որդի նորա Խոսրով: Եկաց ամս երկու եւ գնաց:

 9:17 Then came the marzpan Hratrin Datan. Thereafter the Persians were unable to resist in battle the Greek army. In his time Ormizd was killed, and his son Khosrov reigned. He stayed for two years and departed:

9:18 Ապա եկին սահմանակալք պարսիկք մինչեւ ցսպառումն խաղաղութեանն՝ որ ի մէջ Պարսից եւ Յունաց եւ ի մէջ թագաւորացն երկոցունց՝ Մաւրկայ եւ Խոսրովայ:

 9:18 Then Persian governors came, until the end of the peace between Persians and Greeks and between the two kings Maurice and Khosrov:

9:19 Եւ ապա Վընդատականն: Ապա Խորականն: Զսա սպանին զաւրք Պարսից ի Գառնի, եւ ինքեանք ապստամբեալք գնացին ի Գեղումս: Ապա Մերակբուտն: Ապա Յազդէնն: Ապա Բուտմահ: Ապա Հոյիմանն:

 9:19 Then (came) Vndatakan Khorakan. The Persian troops killed him at Gaṙni, and having rebelled went themselves to Gełumk’ Then Merakbut; then Yazdēn; then Butmah; then Hoyiman:

9:23 Եւ արդ՝ ես ճառեցից զեղելոցն յերկրի զանցից կործանմանն առասպելս վիպասանելով, զի վերուստ զարթուցեալ սրտմտութիւն, եւ զառ ի ներքոյ բորբոքեալ զբարկութիւն. զհրոյն եւ զարեան հեղեղս եւ զհինիցն արշաւանս. եւ զմահաբերն ասպատակ, զգոչիւն դիւաց եւ զաղաղակ վիշապաց, զազանց քաւդեաց եւ զարանց հսկայազանց, քաջաց սպառազինաց հեծելոց, յարեւելից յարեւմուտս, ի հիւսիսոյ ի հարաւ:

 9:23 Now I shall recount in narrative fashion the tale of the destructive events which befell the world: the wrath evoked from on high and the anger flaming up below; the torrents of fire and blood, and the raids of brigands; the death-bringing attacks, the cry of demons and the roar of dragons, the races of Chaldaeans and of men descended from giants, of brave armed cavalry, from east to west, from north to south:

9:24 Եւ զՀարաւայինն զարթուցեալ մեծաւ բորբոքմամբ՝ յարձակեալ ի վերայ միմեանց, եւ կատարել զհրամանն բարկութեան Տեառն ի վերայ ամենայն երկրի. որք իբրեւ զմրրիկ աւդոյ թռուցեալ փոթորկեալ ընթացեալ՝ ապականել զառ ի ներքոյս ամենայն, աւարել զլերինս եւ զբլուրս, պատառել զդաշտս վայրաց, եւ խորտակել զվէմս եւ զքարինս ի ներքոյ գարշապարաց երիվարաց եւ յառաթուր սմբակաց:

 9:24 I shall describe those of the south, aroused with great passion, attacking each other, and the fulfilment of the command of the Lord’s anger against the whole world. Like the whirlwind they arose and burst out to destroy everything within, to raze mountains and hills, to rend the plains, to crush in pieces the stones and rocks beneath the heels of their horses and trampling hooves:

 9:25 So, I shall expound the story of the destructive and ruinous Khosrov, cursed by God:
