4:1 Արդ՝ եկա՛յք պատմեսցուք ձեզ, եղբա՛րք, զցուցական սիրոյն արարչութեան առ ձեզ, որ ինձ երեւեցաւ ահաւորութիւն տեսլեանն. Աստուածութեանն խոնարհեալ առ սուրբ վկայս իւր, եւ զսոսա յանհամեմատն բարձրութիւն, յանպատումսն վերացուցեալ, յանզուգականութիւն արքայութեան երկնից:

 4:1 So, come, we shall tell you, brethren, of the Creator’s love shown towards you, which was revealed to me as an awesome vision. The Godhead condescended to his holy martyrs and raised them up to the incomparable, ineffable and inaccessible height of the kingdom of heaven:

4:2 Արդ՝ զլինելոցն ընդ ձեզ զկեցուցաբեր տուչութիւնն զոր շնորհելոց է՝ յայտնեաց ինձ, եւ երեւեալ ինձ տեսիլ աստուածակերպ սքանչելի անպատում, զորոյ փոքր ի շատէ առի զհանգամանսն:

 4:2 Now he revealed to me the vivifying providence that he intends to bestow on you, and there appeared to me a divine, wonderful, and ineffable vision, the details of which I grasped in brief:

4:3 Արդ՝ ի հասարակել գիշերիս այսմիկ, զի խոնջեալ դուք ի քուն լեալ էիք ի ծանրութենէ աշխատութեան ի տքնութենէ այտի, եւ ես դեռ ի զարթման հարեալ էի եւ մտախորհ կայի վասն յանկարծահաս դիպելոյ անքնին սքանչելեացս ողորմութեան Աստուածութեանն այց առնելոյ ձեզ, արկանելոյ զձեզ ի բովս խրատու հանճարագիտութեան աստուածագէտ վարդապետութեանն:

 4:3 Now, in the middle of that night when you were tired and sleeping from the severity of the labor and vigil, I was still awake and was contemplating the unexpected and inscrutable miracles of God’s mercy in visiting you and casting you into the furnace of instruction of the wise, divine teaching:

4:4 Զմտաւ ածէի եւ զսէր վկայիցն առ իւրեանց սիրեցեալ արարչութիւնն, եւ զփոխարէն դարձուածսն անպատումսն պատրաստեալս նոցա, թէ ո՛րպիսիք իցեն:

 4:4 I also considered the martyrs’ love for their beloved creator, and what would be the ineffable rewards prepared for them:

4:5 Յանկարծակի եղեւ ձայն սաստկութեան, բոմբիւն որոտման, ահաւոր թնդիւն, իբրեւ զձայն եռանդան կուտակելոյ ծովու ալեաց խռովութեան:

 4:5 Suddenly there was a great sound, the thunder of lightning, a fearful noise like the sound of the roaring tumult of the waves of the piling sea:

4:6 Եւ բացաւ խորանաշէն յարկն հաստատութեան երկնից. եւ իջեալ այր մի ի կերպարանս լուսոյ. կոչեաց զանուն իմ եւ ասէ. Գրիգորիէ. եւ իմ նայեցեալ տեսի զկերպարանս նորա, եւ զարհուրեալ դողացեալ յերկիր կործանեցայ:

 4:6 And the cube-shaped vault of the firmament of heaven was opened, and a man descended in the form of light. He called my name and note: ’Gregory. ’ And I looked up and saw his form, and terror struck I fell to the ground:

4:7 Եւ ասէ ցիս. Նայեա՛ց դու ի վեր, եւ տե՛ս զսքանչելիս զոր ցուցանեմ քեզ:

 4:7 Then he said to me: ’Look up and see the wonders that I shall show you. ’:

4:8 Եւ իմ նայեցեալ՝ տեսի բացեալ զհաստատութիւն երկնից, եւ զջուրսն որ ի վերայ նորա՝ ըստ հաստատութեանն պատառելոյ, զի ըստ նմանութեան ձորոց իբրեւ զկատարս լերանց՝ յայս կոյս յայն կոյս բաժանեալ դիզեալ կային անբաւութիւնք անկշռելութեան ական տեսանելոյ:

 4:8 And I looked up and saw the firmament of heaven opened, and the waters above it divided like the firmament, for like valleys and mountain-tops they were divided and their infinite expanses were piled up on either side beyond sight:

4:9 Եւ լոյսն հոսեալ վերուստ ի վայր մինչեւ յերկիր հասանէր. եւ ընդ լուսոյն՝ զաւրք անչափք լուսեղէնք երկթեւեանք ի տեսիլ մարդկան, եւ թեւքն իբրեւ զհուր:

 4:9 And the light flowed from above down to the earth, and with the light numberless hosts of shining two-winged creatures in human appearance and with wings like fire:

4:10 Եւ ըստ նմանութեան մանրամաղ փոշւոյ հիւղէի, որ ի ժամանակս արեգակնակէզ գարնանւոյն ըստ պատուհանացն կամ լոյսանցոյց երդոցն ի շողսն խաղասցէ բազմութիւն մանրամաղ փոշւոյն, նոյնպէս եւ զաւրքն ընդ լուսոյն լցին զառ ի ստորեւս ամենայն, եւ առաջն ցռկեալ յառիջանելն լուսոյն, եւ զաւրքն ընդ նմին:

 4:10 And in the likeness of minute specks of dust which in the sunny springtime play in their myriads in the rays passing through windows or sky-lights, so too these hosts filled everything below with their light, and as the light streamed forward so did the hosts with it:

4:11 Եւ մի ահաւոր տեսիլ մարդոյ բարձր եւ ահեղ, որ զառաջն ունէր եւ զէջսն ի վերուստ մինչեւ ի խոնարհ առաջապահ յառաջեալ, եւ ի ձեռինն իւրում ուռն մի մեծ ոսկի. եւ այն ամենայն զհետ խաղացեալ գայր:

 4:11 And there was an awesome vision of a man, tall and fearful, who governed the front and the rear guards and, descending from above, advanced as leader. And in his hand was a great hammer of gold, and they all followed him:

4:12 Եւ ինքն սլացեալ խոյացեալ գայր՝ ըստ նմանութեան արագաթեւ արծուոյ. եւ եկն էջ եհաս մինչեւ մաւտ ի յատակս երկրիս, ի շինամէջ քաղաքին, եւ բաղխեաց զթանձրութիւն լայնատարած գետնոյն, եւ մեծ եւ անչափ դրնդիւնքն հնչեցին ի սանդարամետս անդնդոց. եւ ամենայն երկիր յերեւելիս, յական տեսանելեաց բաւելոյ, հարթ հաւասար դաշտաձեւ յատակեցաւ:

 4:12 He himself flew swiftly in the likeness of a fleet-winged eagle. And he descended and came down near to the ground of the earth in the middle of the city. And he struck the wide expanse of the solid ground, and great and immeasurable rumblings sounded in the depths of hell. And the whole earth as far as the eye could see was struck as level as a plain:

4:13 Եւ տեսանէի ի մէջ քաղաքիս, մաւտ յապարանսն արքունի, խարսխաձեւ ճախարակաձեւ խարիսխ ոսկի, մեծութեամբ իբրեւ զմեծ մի բլուր, եւ ի վերայ նորա սիւն մի հրեղէն բարձր մինչեւ յոյժ, եւ ի վերայ նորա թակաղաղ մի ամպեայ, եւ խաչն լուսոյ ի վերայ նորա:

 4:13 And I saw in the middle of the city, near the royal palace, a circular base of gold, as great as a hill, and on it an exceedingly tall column of fire, and on top of that a capital of cloud, and on top of that again a cross of light:

4:14 Եւ նայեցայ, եւ տեսանեմ այլ խարիսխս երիս. մի՝ ի տեղւոջն ուր վկայեաց սուրբն Գայիանէ երկուք ընկերաւքն. եւ մի՝ ի տեղւոջն ուր վկայեաց սուրբն Հռիփսիմէ երեսուն եւ երկու ընկերաւքն, եւ մի՝ ի տեղւոջ հնձանին:

 4:14 And I looked up and saw three other bases: one in the place where saint Gayane was martyred with her two companions, and one in the place where saint Rhipsime was martyred with her thirty-two companions, and one in the place of the wine-press:

4:15 Եւ այն խարիսխք՝ կարմիրք էին ի գոյն արեան, եւ սիւնք ամպեղէնք, եւ խոյակք հրեղէնք. եւ ի վերայ սեանցն երից խաչք լուսեղէնք ըստ նմանութեան տեառնանման խաչին. եւ այս սեանց խաչքն հաւասարք էին այնր լուսեղէն սեանն թակաղաղի, զի նա բարձր էր քան զնոսա:

 4:15 And these bases were red, the color of blood, and the columns were of cloud and the capitals of fire. And on top of the three columns were crosses of light in the likeness of the Lord’s cross. And the crosses of these columns were level with the capital of the column of light, for that one was higher than they:

4:16 Եւ ի չորեցունց սեանցն ի վերայ խաչիցն կամարք զարմանատեսք ի միմեանս կապեցան. եւ ի վերայ այնորիկ տեսի գմբեթաձեւ խորանարդ ամպեղէն շինուած աստուածակերտ զարմանալի:

 4:16 And from the four columns, above the crosses, marvelous vaults fitted into each other. And above this I saw a canopy of cloud, wonderfully and divinely constructed in the form of a dome:

4:17 Եւ ի ներքոյ խորանին ի վերայ կամարացն տեսի զսուրբ վկայսս զայսոսիկ զերեսուն եւ զեաւթն, իբրեւ ի լուսաւոր կերպարանս սպիտակութեան հանդերձանաւք, զոր ոչ բաւեմ պատմել:

 4:17 Under the canopy but above the vaults I saw these thirty-seven holy martyrs in shining light, with white garments, which I am not capable of describing:

4:18 Եւ ի կատար շինուածոյն տեսանէի աթոռ զարմանալի աստուածակերտ սքանչելի հրեղէն, եւ զխաչն տէրունական ի վերայ նորա. զորով փարեալ լոյսն համատարած՝ խառնեցաւ ընդ ճառագայթս խաչին, եւ մածեալ ի նոյն միացաւ. եւ սիւն գործեաց լոյսն շողացեալ, եւ ծագեաց ի մէջ ներքին սեանցն խարսխաց:

 4:18 At the summit of this edifice I saw a wonderful and divine throne of fire with the Lord’s cross above it. Around it spread light in every direction, mingled with the rays of the cross and joined to the same. And the column made of light shone out among the bases of the lower columns:

4:19 Եւ բղխեաց աղբիւր յորդաբուղխ, եւ հոսեցաւ ծաւալեցաւ ընդ դաշտս ամենայն, եւ ելից առ հասարակ՝ որչափ ակն բաւեաց:

 4:19 And there gushed forth an abundant spring, flowing over all the plains and filling them completely as far as the eye could see:

4:20 Եւ եղեւ ծով լի եւ կապուտակագոյն, եւ երկնագոյն երեւեցան դաշտք առ հասարակ:

 4:20 There was made a vast bluish sea, and the plains appeared altogether the color of heaven:

4:21 Եւ տեսի բազմութիւն հրեղէն սեղանոց անչափ բազմութեամբ. եւ սիւն մի մի առ սեղան, եւ խաչ մի մի ի վերայ նորա. եւ իբրեւ զաստեղս բազմութեամբ՝ այնպիսի երեւեալք եւ անչափ փայլեալք:

 4:21 And I saw a numberless multitude of fiery altars, and a column on each altar, and a cross on each column. And they shone out in infinite number like the stars:

4:22 Եւ տեսի հաւտս անթիւս այծեաց ի գոյն սեւութեան, որք անցեալք ընդ ջուրն՝ յաւդիս դարձան. եւ զգոյնս իւրեանց ի կերպարանս սպիտակութեան շրջեցին, եւ լուսակիզն ասրն փայլէր առ հասարակ, մինչեւ ճառագայթք հատանէին ի նոցանէն:

 4:22 And I saw numberless herds of goats, black in color, who having passed through the water turned into sheep, and their color became white and their fleeces sparkled like shining wool as rays flashed out from them:

4:23 Եւ մինչեւ դեռ նայէի եւս՝ յանկարծակի ծնան հաւտքն եւ բազմացան, եւ ծնունդքն լցին զվայրսն. եւ ծնեալ գառինքն ամենայն լուսակիզն էին:

 4:23 While I was still looking, suddenly the flocks gave birth and multiplied and their offspring filled the land. And the lambs that were born were covered in shining wool:

4:24 Իսկ յանկարծ այլ ծնունդք յաճախեցին բազմացան, եւ կէսքն անկեալ ելին յայնկոյս ջրոյն:

 4:24 Then suddenly still more offspring multiplied, and half of them crossed to the other side of the water:

4:25 Եւ գառինքն գայլք եղեն թուխք, եւ յարձակեցան ելին ի մէջ հաւտիցն, եւ սկսան կոտորել, եւ եղեն արեան ճապաղիք:

 4:25 And these lambs became brown wolves and attacked the flocks and began to slaughter them, and there was shedding of blood:

4:26 Եւ մինչեւ դեռ նայէի՝ եւ տեսի, եւ բուսան թեւք հաւտիցն, եւ եղեն թեւաւորք, եւ վերացան խառնեցան ի զաւրս լուսեղէնս:

 4:26 While I was looking, I saw that the flocks grew wings and flew up and joined the shining hosts:

4:27 Եւ յարեաւ հեղեղ հրեղէն, եւ արկեալ տարաւ զգայլսն:

 4:27 And there arose a torrent of fire which bore away the wolves:

4:28 Եւ ես նայեցեալ զարմացեալ կայի:

 4:28 Beholding this I was amazed:

4:29 Եւ այրն, որ յառաջնումն կարդաց զանուն իմ եւ ցուցանէր ինձ՝ ասէ ցիս, թէ «Այր դու, զի՞ կաս զարմացեալ, եւ ո՞չ ի միտ առնուս զմեծամեծս Աստուծոյ:

 4:29 And the man, who had earlier called my name and showed me this, said to me: ’O man, why do you stand in amazement without pondering the miracles of God? ’:

4:30 Եւ ես ասեմ. «Ո՞րպէս, Տէր:

 4:30 And I note: ’How, Lord? ’:

4:31 եւ ասէ ցիս. «Տեսիլ ցուցաւ քեզ այս՝ զի ի միտ առցես:

 4:31 And he said to me: ’This vision has been revealed to you, that you might pay heed to it:

4:32 Զի բացեալ են աւադիկ երկինք՝ գիտեա՛ զի բացեալ են դրունք մարդասիրութեանն Քրիստոսի առ իւր արարածս:

 4:32 For behold the heavens have been opened [cf. Ez. 1.1]: know that the gates of Christ’s love [cf. Ps. 77.23; Tit. 3.4] for his creatures have been opened:

4:33 Եւ ձայն բարբառոյ որոտմանն, գիտեա՛ զի իջանէ անձրեւ ողորմութեանն եւ գթութեանն Աստուծոյ:

 4:33 As for the sound of the voice of thunder, know that the rain of God’s mercy and pity [cf. Lk. 1.78] is descending:

4:34 Բացեալ են աւանիկ դրունք երկնից, բացան եւ ջուրքն որ ի վերայ նորա, զի մի՛ արգել լիցի այսմ աշխարհի մարդկան՝ ելանել ի վեր:

 4:34 Behold the gates of heaven have been opened and the waters above have been opened, that there be no impediment for men of this world to rise up:

4:35 Զի սուրբ վկայքս այս որ աստ վկայեցին՝ հիւսիսական կողմանցս ճանապարհ գործեցին. զի ինքեանք ելին եւ այլոց շաւիղս ուղղեցին:

 4:35 For the holy martyrs who were martyred here have made a road for these Northern regions, since they have gone up and made paths for others:

4:36 Աւասիկ լոյսս զի ելից զվայրս՝ այս քարոզութիւն Աւետարանին է, որ եւ զկողմն հիւսիսոյ լնու:

 4:36 Behold this light which filled the land is the preaching of the gospel [cf. Jn. 1.4], which also fills the Northern region:

4:37 Եւ զաւրք լուսեղէնք ցանկացեալ փափագեցին իջանել ի հոտ անոյշ ծաղկաձեւ վարդագոյն արեան վկայիցն, նա՛ այսուհետեւ խառնելոց են ընդ մարդկան ի բնակութիւն բազմութիւնք հրեշտակաց:

 4:37 And the hosts of light greatly desired to descend to the sweet odor [cf. II Cor. 2.15], like that of a rose-colored flower, of the martyrs’ blood; from henceforth multitudes of angels will mingle and live with mankind:

4:38 Իսկ այրս ահաւոր եւ շքեղաւոր, որ զառաջսն ունի զլուսոյն եւ զուռնն ոսկի ի ձեռին իւրում, բաղխեաց զսանդարամետսն՝ այս տեսչութիւնն Աստուծոյ է, որ հայի յերկիր, եւ տայ դողալ. մերձի ի լերինս, եւ ծխին:

 4:38 And the fearsome and splendid man, who in the vanguard held the golden hammer in his hand and struck the depths of hell, he is the providence of God, ’who looks on the earth and makes it shake; he approaches the hills, and they smoke’:

4:39 Այն ահ Աստուածութեանն հարթեաց կործանեաց ընկէց զմոլորութիւնս յերկրէ:

 4:39 This fear of the Godhead has flattened and destroyed and over-thrown error from the earth:

4:40 Այն զի հնչեաց երկիր՝ զձայն ծառայութեանն հնազանդութեան բարբառեցաւ:

 4:40 And the echoing earth was the voice of servitude and obedience:

4:41 Որոյ սեանն խարիսխն ոսկի է, եւ նորուն սիւնն հրեղէն, եւ թակաղաղն ամպեայ, եւ խաչն լուսեղէն ի վերայ նորա. ոսկի խարիսխն՝ վէմն հաստատութեան անշարժութեան է. եւ սիւնն հրեղէն՝ կաթողիկէ եկեղեցի է, որ ժողովէ զամենայն ժողովուրդս ի մի միաբանութիւն հաւատոց ի ներքոյ թեւոց իւրոց:

 4:41 As for the golden base of the pillar, and its fiery column and capital of cloud and the shining cross above it - the base of gold is the immovable rock of establishment [cf. Matt. 7.25]; the fiery column is the Catholic church which gathers all peoples to one unity of faith under her wings:

4:42 Եւ թակաղաղն ամպեայ՝ որ ընդունելոց է զարդարսն, յորժամ թռիցեն ի տեառնագալստեանն ընդ առաջ նմա վերանալ:

 4:42 and the capital of cloud is to receive the just when they will fly up before the Lord at his coming:

4:43 Իսկ խաչն լուսաւոր ի նմա՝ է ինքն մեծ քահանայապետութիւնն ի մէջ ժողովրդոցն, աւրինակ Քրիստոսի պատկերին մարմնացելոյ քահանայապետութեանն աւծութեան Աստուածորդւոյն:

 4:43 Now the shining cross on it is the great high- priest [cf. Heb. 3.14] himself among the peoples, the type of Christ’s image, the incarnate high priesthood of the anointed Son of God:

4:44 Եւ տեղին այն լիցի տաճար Աստուծոյ, եւ տուն աղաւթից խնդրուածոց ամենայն հաւատացելոց, եւ աթոռ քահանայապետութեանն:

 4:44 And that place will be a temple of God and a house of prayer [cf. Matt. 21.13] for the requests of all the faithful, and a throne of the high priesthood:

4:45 Եւ խարիսխքն երեք, որ կարմիրքն էին ի գոյն արեան՝ վասն չարչարանացն եկելոց նեղութեանց մահու համբերութեանն. զի զմահն իւրեանց արարին խարիսխ ճշմարտութեան հաւատոց, հեղմամբ արեան իւրեանց:

 4:45 And the three bases which were red, the color of blood, represent the torments and afflictions which came upon the martyrs and their endurance unto death. For they made their death the basis [cf. Heb. 6.19] of the true faith by the shedding of their blood:

4:46 Եւ սիւնքն՝ ամպեղէնք յայն սակս երեւեցան, վասն զի ամպն ունի զթեթեւութիւն արագութեան ի յարութեանն յերկինս վերանալոյ:

 4:46 And the columns appeared of cloud for this reason, because the cloud has lightness to rise swiftly up to heaven at the resurrection:

4:47 Եւ թակաղաղն՝ հրեղէն, զի բնակութիւն նոցա լինելոց է ի հուր Աստուածութեանն լուսոյն:

 4:47 And the capital was fiery because their habitation will be in the fire of the divine light:

4:48 Եւ խաչքն ունին զչարչարանս վկայիցն, որ նմանեցին Տեառն չարչարանացն, եւ մեռան փոխանակ նորա. զի Աստուծով կեցին եւ ընդ Քրիստոսի խաչեցան, եւ կենդանի է Քրիստոս յոսկերս նոցա՝ ցուցանել ամենեցուն զկենդանութիւն նոցա. յայտնի առնել զհոտ անուշութեան գիտութեան իւրոյ ի նոցանէ եւ հռչակել զառաքինութիւնս նոցա ընդ տիեզերս:

 4:48 And the crosses represent the sufferings of the martyrs, who imitated the sufferings of the Lord and died for him. For they lived in God and were crucified with Christ, and Christ lives in their bones in order to show everyone their life, to reveal by them the sweet odor of his knowledge, and to spread abroad their virtue throughout the world:

4:49 Զի սպանին նոքա զմարմինս երկրաւորս, եւ կախեցին զտէրունական խաչէն. եղեն Տեառն իւրեանց չարչարակից, նոյնպէս եւ փառացն եւ զաւրութեանն լինելոց են հաղորդք:

 4:49 For they killed their earthly bodies and hung from the Lord’s cross; they became fellow-sufferers with their Lord, and likewise will share in his glory and power:

4:50 Այլ առաջին խաչն որ ցուցաւ քեզ՝ ունի զպարծանս քահանայութեան պատուին, պանծացեալ ի խաչն Քրիստոսի:

 4:50 Now the first cross that was revealed to you represents the boast of the honor of priesthood, which glories in the cross of Christ:

4:51 Իսկ երեք եւս, որ ունէին զտեղի վկայարանացն հանգստի սրբոցն՝ զի ի տեղւոջ հեղման արեանն իւրեանց շինեսցին վկայարանք հանգստի ոսկերաց իւրեանց:

 4:51 But the other three represented the places for the chapels of repose of the saints, because in the place where their blood was shed will be built chapels of repose for their bones:

4:52 Իսկ զի բարձր է սիւնն առաջին՝ զի մեծ եւ բարձր է պատիւ կաթողիկէ եկեղեցւոյ քան զամենայն բարձրութիւնս սրբոցն:

 4:52 Now the first column was high, because the honor of the Catholic church is greater and higher than all the heights of the saints:

4:53 Իսկ կամարքն որ ի սեանց անտի ի միմեանս կապէին՝ այս ինքն է հաւասարութիւն միաբանութեան կաթողիկէ եկեղեցւոյ:

 4:53 And the arches that were linked to each other from the columns are the equality and unity of the Catholic church:

4:54 Իսկ խորանն ի վերայ՝ ունի զաւրինակ վերնոյ քաղաքին, զժողովարանն միաբանութեան արքայութեանն երկնից:

 4:54 And the canopy above represents the type of the celestial city [cf. Gal. 4.26], the united gathering-place of the kingdom of heaven:

4:55 Եւ զի երեւէին քեզ վկայքն՝ գիտեա՛ զի մահս ժամանակեան է, ասէ, եւ կենդանութիւն նոցա յաւիտենական, փառաւորեալ ի փառս Աստուածորդւոյն. վասն այսորիկ եւ զաւրինակ խաչի նորա տպաւորեալ յանձինս նոցա:

 4:55 And because the martyrs appeared to you, know, ’ he said, ’that their death is temporary and their life eternal and glorious in the glory of the Son of God. Therefore, they figured in themselves the pattern of his cross:

4:56 Եւ ի վերայ կատարոյ շինուածոյն զոր տեսանես, նոյն ինքն աթոռ ամենազաւր բնութեան Աստուածութեանն, բարձրութեան ինքնութեանն. զի նա ինքն գլուխ է եկեղեցւոյ սրբոյ եւ կատարիչ ամենայն բարութեանց, եւ ի նա ամենայն շինուածն պատշաճի, եւ աճէ զաճումն Աստուծոյ, յոր ամենայն մարմին յաւդիւք եւ խաղալեաւք եւ անդամաւք հաստատեալ եւ կազմեալ:

 4:56 And what you see above the top of the building is the throne of the almighty nature of the Godhead, of his essential height. For he is the head of the holy church [cf. Col. 1.18] and the worker of all blessings. And in him is held together the whole edifice, and it increases the glory of God [cf. Col. 2.19], in whom is firmly established the whole body with limbs and joints:

4:57 Եւ լոյսն զի փարի զխաչիւն՝ այս ինքն Հոգի Աստուածութեանն որ զՈրդին փառաւոր առնէ:

 4:57 And the light which surrounded the cross is the Spirit of God who glorifies the Son:

4:58 Եւ զի խառնեցաւ ընդ ճառագայթս նորա՝ այս ինքն զի յՈրդւոյն առնու եւ պատմէ սիրելեաց իւրոց:

 4:58 And it mingled with its rays, because it receives from the Son and tells of him to his beloved:

4:59 Եւ զի միացաւն ի նոյն՝ զի մի է բնութիւն Աստուածութեանն:

 4:59 And it was united to the same, because the nature of the Godhead is one:

4:60 Եւ զի ծագեաց լոյսն ի մէջ սեանցն չորեցունց, եւ բղխեցոյց զաղբիւրն յորդաբուղխ՝ զի կաթողիկէ եկեղեցւոյն շնորհք Հոգւոյն ի մէջ վկայելոցն եւ ի մէջ քահանայութեանն բղխելոց է աղբիւր մկրտութեան, լուանալ զաղտ ոգւոյն մարմնովքն հանդերձ:

 4:60 And the light shone from the midst of the four columns and caused an abundant torrent to flow forth, because the grace of the Spirit will flow from the Catholic church amid the martyrs and the priesthood as the fountain of baptism, to wash away the stain of the soul with the body:

4:61 Եւ այն զի յորդեաց ելից զբազում վայրս՝ զի լինելոց է փրկութիւն մկրտութեամբ բազում ժողովրդոց:

 4:61 And it spread out and filled many places because it will become salvation for many peoples through baptism:

4:62 Եւ զի երկնագոյն երեւեցան դաշտք ամենայն՝ այս ինքն է՝ զի երկիրս իբրեւ զերկինս լինելոց է, խառնուրդք հրեշտակաց եւ մարդկան:

 4:62 And the fact that all the plains appeared the color of heaven means that this earth will become like heaven - the common abode of angels and men:

4:63 Եւ հրեղէն սեղանոցն բազմութիւնք որ քեզդ երեւին՝ ճշմարտիւ իսկ լինելոց են սեղանք Աստուծոյ, որ զքաւութիւն բաշխեն ամենեցուն:

 4:63 And the multitudes of fiery altars which appeared to you, will truly be the altars of God which will distribute expiation to all:

4:64 Եւ հրեղէն յայն սակս երեւեցաւ, զի պաշտաւն Հոգւոյն եղիցի փառաւք:

 4:64 And they appeared fiery for this reason, because the worship of the Spirit will take place gloriously:

4:65 Եւ սիւնք մի մի առ սեղան՝ պաշտաւն աղաւթից քահանայութեան:

 4:65 And the columns by each altar represent the worship of the prayers of the priesthood:

4:66 Եւ խաչք ի վերայ նոցա, այս ինքն զի սուրբ անունն Քրիստոսի փառաւոր լիցի ընդ ամենայն տեղիս:

 4:66 And the crosses above them signify that the holy name of Christ will be glorified in every place:

4:67 Եւ զի բազում էին իբրեւ զաստեղս՝ զի պաշտամունք սրբութեանն իբրեւ զաստեղս բազմասցին:

 4:67 And they were as many as the stars because the services of holiness will multiply like the stars:

4:68 Եւ հաւտք բազմութեան այծեացն սեւութեան, որք յիջանել ի ջուրսն յաւդիս դարձեալ սպիտակութեան՝ աւադիկ աջն Աստուածութեան շնորհացն ի ձեռն քահանայապետութեան հասանելոց է. յորոյ ձեռն բղխեսցէ աղբիւր մկրտութեան, ի թողութիւն քաւութեան բազում մեղաւորաց:

 4:68 And the herds of many black goats who in going down to the waters turned into sheep, behold this means that the right hand of God’s grace will come through the high priesthood, through which the fountain of baptism will flow for the forgiveness and expiation of many sinners:

4:69 Եւ որ լուսակիզն ասր նոցա փայլեալ պայծառացեալ էր՝ այս ինքն՝ մկրտեալքն լոյս զգենլոց են, եւ արքայութեանն խոստացելոց արժանաւոր լինելոց:

 4:69 And their white wool which shone and sparkled signifies that the baptized will be clothed in light and become worthy of the promised kingdom:

4:70 Եւ զի ծնան հաւտքն եւ բազմացան եւ լցին զվայրսն՝ այս ինքն է՝ զբազում ժամանակս աճեցուցանէ զքարոզութիւնն, եւ ծնանին նոր ծնունդք նորոգութեան, եւ բազմացուցանէ զմկրտութիւնն:

 4:70 And the fact that the flocks gave birth and multiplied and filled the land signifies that the preaching will be increased for a long time, and new, renewed offspring will be born and baptism will be increased:

4:71 Եւ զի կէսքն անկեալ ելեալ էին հաւտքն ընդ ջուրսն, ի նոյն կողմն ուստի անցեալն էին՝ այս ինքն է՝ ի յետին ժամանակս անաւրինելոց են, անկեալք ի ճշմարտութենէն. ընկենլոց են յետս զդրոշմ ուխտին սրբութեան Աստուածութեանն, եւ բազումք թողուն զուխտն սրբութեան:

 4:71 And the fact that half of the flocks went through the waters and turned back to the same side from which they had passed means that in times to come there will be impious ones who depart from the truth; they will fall behind the standard of the holy covenant of the Godhead, and many will abandon the holy covenant:

4:72 Եւ ի գառանցն լինելոց են գայլք, որ կոտորելոց են զսուրբ գառինս. այս ինքն որ գնան ի ճշմարտութենէ անտի եւ յուխտէ քահանայիցն՝ լինելոց են գայլք, եւ հանեն ճապաղիս արեան գառանցն, այս ինքն ուխտին եւ քահանայութեանն, եւ խռովութիւն ժողովրդոցն:

 4:72 And from lambs they will become wolves who will slaughter the holy lambs - that is, those who depart from the truth and the priestly covenant will become wolves and will cause the shedding of the blood of the lambs, that is of the covenant and of the priesthood, and will cause confusion for the people:

4:73 Իսկ որ համբերենն միամտութեամբ ի գառանցն, ի ժողովրդոցն կամ ի քահանայիցն՝ թեւս առնուցուն եւ յարքայութիւնն Քրիստոսի վերանան:

 4:73 But those lambs which endure faithfully, either from among the people or the priests, will receive wings and rise to the kingdom of Christ:

4:74 Իսկ որ զմիտս գայլոցն կամ զգործս յափշտակութեան նոցա ունիցին՝ ի հուրն անշէջ մատնեսցին:

 4:74 But those who will have the intentions of wolves or commit their rapacious deeds will be handed over to unquenchable fire:

4:75 Եւ դու, ասէ ցիս այրն, պի՛նտ կաց, քա՛ջ լեր, զգո՛յշ լեր. զի գործ ի ձեռն եկեալ հասեալ է քեզ. զի քեզ բարութիւն դիւրաւ լինելոց է, զի եւ դու ընդ ճշմարիտ մշակս վարձս առցես յանպատում պարգեւացն Քրիստոսի:

 4:75 And you,” said the man to me, “stand firm, be strong, be attentive. For a task has been put upon you; you will easily receive blessing, for with the true laborers you will receive reward from the ineffable gifts of Christ:

4:76 Արդ՝ զգո՛յշ լեր աւանդիդ, որ քեզդ հաւատացաւ ի տեառնէ Յիսուսէ Քրիստոսէ. շինեսջի՛ր զտաճար անուանն Աստուծոյ ի տեղւոջն որ ցուցաւ քեզ, որ սիւնն հրեղէն ունէր զոսկի խարիսխն, եւ զվկայարանս սրբոցն ի տեղիսն՝ ուր զենան ինքեանք ի կենդանութիւն Աստուածութեան յուսոյն:

 4:76 Now, be attentive to the tradition entrusted you by the Lord Jesus Christ. Construct the temple of God’s name in the place which has been shown you, where the fiery column had its base of gold, and build the holy martyrs’ chapels in the places where they were sacrificed to life in divine hope:

4:77 Զի բժշկեսցին հարուածեալքդ, եւ քարոզութեանն յաջողուած յառաջադէմ լիցի հանապազորդութեամբ աւր ըստ աւրէ, հասանել ամենեցուն ի չափ կատարման հասակի հաւատոցն Քրիստոսի:

 4:77 that the tormented may be healed and the gospel be preached ever more successfully day after day, to bring everyone to the measure of the perfect stature of Christ’s faith:

4:78 Եւ զայս ասացեալ՝ շարժումն եղեալ, եւ ընդ առաւաւտանալն ծածկեցաւ տեսիլն:

 4:78 When he had said this there was an earthquake, and as day dawned the vision was obscured:
