8:0 Յաղագս մայրեացն տնկելոց, եւ պատերազմացն ընդ Պարսս, եւ ազգահատութեան տան նախարարացն տոհմին Բզնունեաց:	8:0 The planting of forests, the wars with the Persians, and the extermination of the lordly [naxarar] House of the Bznunik’:
8:1 Եւ իբրեւ առ ժամանակ մի խաղաղացաւ երկիրս Հայոց, ապա ետ հրաման թագաւորն Հայոց Խոսրով, տալ պարգեւս արանցն քաջացն` որ վաստակեցին նմա, եւ փոխանակեցին զանձինս իւրեանց փոխանակ աշխարհին Հայոց մեծաց յամենայն ի մարտ ճակատուցն պատերազմաց:	8:1 When the country of Armenia had been calmed for a while, Xosrov, king of Armenia ordered that gifts be given to the brave men who had labored for him and had been willing to exchange their lives for the land of Greater Armenia in all battles of the war:
8:2 Եւ ետ Վաչէի զօրավարի զականս Ջանջանակին, եւ զՋրաբաշխիս, եւ զՑլու գլուխ, ամենայն գաւառակօքն հանդերձ. նոյնպէս եւ այլոց նախարարացն մեծամեծ պարգեւս:	8:2 To general Vach’e he gave the sources of the Janjanak, and Jrabashxik, and [Tslu glux] mountain with all of its small districts. Similarly, he gave very great gifts to the other naxarars:
8:3 Եւ ետ հրաման թագաւորն զօրավարին իւրոյ` հանել խաշար յաշխարհէն բազում, եւ բերել զվայրենի կաղին մայրեաց, եւ տնկել զայն յԱյրարատեան գաւառին. եւ առեալ յամուր բերդէն արքունի, որում կոչեն Գառնի, մինչեւ ի դաշտն Մեծամօրի ի բլուրն` որ անուանեալ կոչի Դուին, որ կայ ի հիւսիսոյ կողմանէ քաղաքին մեծի Արտաշատու, զգետն խոնարհ մինչեւ յապարանսն Տիկնունի` տնկեցին զկաղինն:	8:3 He ordered his general to dig up many young trees, to bring wild oak trees of the forests and plant them in the district of Ayrarat, beginning from the secure royal fortress called Garhni and extending to the plain of Mecamor to the hill called Duin which is on the north side of the great city of Artashat. Thus, they planted oak trees south of the river as far as the Tiknuni palace:
8:4 Եւ կոչեաց զանուն նորա Տաճար մայրի:	8:4 He called this the [Tachar] Temple forest:
8:5 Եւ միւս ի մայրեացն յեղէգնաբերանին ի նմանէ ի հարաւակոյս լցին զդաշտն կաղնատուն տնկով եւ կոչեցին զանուն նորա Խոսրովակերտ:	8:5 South of this in a reedy area they filled up the plain with another oak forest, which they named Xosrovakert:
8:6 Եւ անդ շինեցին զապարանսն արքունական, եւ զերկոսեան տեղիսն պարսպեալ փակեցին. եւ ոչ կցեցին ի միմեանս վասն պողոտայի ճանապարհին:	8:6 There they built royal palaces, walling and shutting in both sites, nor were the two areas joined by a road, the forests grew tall:
8:7 Եւ աճեաց բարձրացաւ. եւ ապա զամենայն էրէս եւ զգազանս հրամայեաց ժողովել թագաւորն եւ լնուլ զքաղաքորմսն, զի լիցին նոցա տեղիք որսոց զբօսանաց ուրախութեան թագաւորութեան նորա:	8:7 Then the king ordered that all kinds of game and wild beasts be gathered and placed behind the walls so that the forests be places for diversionary hunting and pleasure in his kingdom:
8:8 Եւ զօրավարն Վաչէ կատարէր վաղվաղակի զասացեալսն արքայի:	8:8 General Vach’e immediately implemented what the king said:
8:9 Եւ մինչդեռ նա յայնմ գործ զմայրեօքն տնկելովք էր, յանկարծակի գուժկան հասանէր առ Խոսրով ի Հէր եւ ի Զարաւանդ գաւառ, թէ պատրաստեալ են զօրքն Պարսից գալ հասանել ի գործ պատերազմի ի վերայ քո:	8:5 While Xosrov was involved with planting the forests, unexpectedly bad news reached him from Her and Zarawand district saying that the Iranian troops were preparing to come to make war against him:
8:10 Ապա հրաման ետ արքայ Խոսրով Դատաբայ նահապետի Բզնունեաց` գուգազ հանել յաշխարհէ աւելի քան զչափն. եւ զհամար զօրսն մատենիկ գնդաւն ընդ առաջ նոցա խաղալ հասանել ի դիմի հարկանել, արգելուլ զթշնամիսն:	8:10 Then king Xosrov commanded Databe, nahapet of the Bznunik’, to call up a larger than usual number of irregular troops from the land and with the muster of troops of the Matenik brigade, to go in advance of them and to strike at and block the enemy:
8:11 Ապա Դատաբէն երթայր ընդ առաջ զօրացն Պարսից բազմութեամբ զօրօքն Հայոց:	8:11 Databe went before the Iranian troops with the multitude of Armenian troops:
8:12 Իբրեւ հասանէր Դատաբէն, խորհուրդ միաբանութեան դնէր ընդ իշխանսն զօրացն Պարսից. կամեցաւ մատնել ի ձեռս նոցա զարքայն Հայոց զտէրն իւր. դարան հրամայեաց գործել թշնամեացն ի վերայ իւրոց զօրացն, եւ անդրէն սուր ետ դնել ի վերայ իւրոց զօրացն:	8:12 But when Databe arrived, he made a plan of unity with the princes of the Iranian troops and wanted to betray his lord, the king of Armenia, into their hands. He ordered the enemy to ambush his own troops, to have his own men put to the sword:
8:13 Յանկարծ յեղակարծումն տարակարծի` քառասուն հազար զզօրսն Հայոց միանգամայն կոտորէին, եւ այլ զօրքն փախստական լինէին. եւ Դատաբէն չարագործ առնոյր զզօրսն Պարսից, եւ կամէր անկանել ի վերայ թագաւորին Հայոց:	8:13 Suddenly, in an unexpected fashion [40,000] Armenian troops were destroyed, while the other surviving troops fled. The criminal Databe took the Iranian troops and wanted to fall on the king of Armenia:
8:14 Ապա փախստականք զօրացն վաղ հասանէին ի բանակ արքային Հայոց, գոյժ առնել զանհնարին կործանումն իրացն եղելոց, զչարագործութիւն մատնութեան անօրէն Դատաբենայ:	8:14 But the fleeing troops quickly reached the army of the king of Armenia bearing the bad news of the unbelievable destruction which had occurred, and the crime of betrayal of the impious Databe:
8:15 Ապա անգանէր թաւալէր խնդրէր յԱստուծոյ բազում պաղատանօք եւ ուժգին արտասուօք թագաւորն Հայոց Խոսրով, հանդերձ Վրթանաւ քահանայապետիւն:	8:15 Then Xosrov, king of Armenia, and Vrtanes, the chief-priest, fell and rolled on the ground beseeching God with many entreaties and unrestrained tears to help them:
8:16 Եւ յետ այսորիկ աճապարէր կուտէր զզօրսն առ ինքն իբրեւ երեսուն հազար, հանդերձ զօրավարաւն Վաչէիւ. գայր հասանէր ընդ առաջ նոցա` ամենայն աւագախումբ մեծամեծ նախարարօք իւրովք:	8:16 Then Xosrov hurried to assemble troops, some [30,000] and came before them, together with general Vach’e and with all his senior grandee naxarars:
8:17 Եւ դիպեցան միմեանց առ ափն ծովուն Բզնունեաց, յԱռեստն աւանի, ի ձկնատեսանսն արքունի ի վերայ գետակին:	8:17 The two sides encountered each other by the shore of the Sea of Bznunik (Lake Van) in Arhest awan at the royal fish-reservoir located on a small river:
8:18 Եւ տեսին զզօրսն Պարսից, զի ոչ գոյր թիւ բազմութեանն. զի էին իբրեւ զաստեղս երկնից, եւ իբրեւ զաւազ առ ափն ծովու. զի եկեալ էին անթիւ փղօք եւ անչափ զօրօք:	8:18 They observed the incalculable multitude of Iranian troops which were as numerous as the stars in the sky or the sand by the seashore, and they had come with countless elephants and troops:
8:19 Եւ սոքա հասին անկան ի վերայ բանակին, յուսացեալք առ Աստուած. հարին, սատակեցին, կոտորեցին, եւ ոչ թողին ի նոցանէ եւ ոչ մի:	8:19 But the Armenians went and attacked their army, placing their hopes in God. They struck, killed, and destroyed and did not leave a single one of them living:
8:20 Եւ թափէին աւար բազում, եւ զփիղսն եւ զամենայն ոյժ զօրութեան նոցա:	8:20 They seized much loot, many elephants and the entire strength of their force:
8:21 Ձերբակալ արարեալ զԴատաբէնն Վաչէ սպարապետն եւ քաջ Վահան ամատունի, ածէին զնա առաջի մեծի թագաւորին Խոսրովու, եւ քարկոծ առնէին զնա քարամբք իբրեւ զայր, որ աշխարհի եւ գնդի եւ զօրաց տեառն իւրոյ դաւաճան լեալ իցէ:	8:21 The sparapet Vach’e and brave Vahan Amatuni arrested Databe, brought him before the great king Xosrov, and killed him by lapidation as a man who would betray his land, brigade, and the troops of his lord:
8:22 Եւ զազգ նորա եւ զկին եւ զորդիս գտանէր յամրոցի անդ իշխանին Ըռշտունեաց յանուանեալն յԱղթամար կղզւոջ. ի նաւ ելեալ Վաչէ սպարապետն, անցեալ ի կղզին` առ հասարակ ոչ զէգ թողոյր եւ ոչ զարու:	8:22 Databe’s azg, wife and children were located there in the stronghold of the prince of Erhshtunik’, which was called the island of Aght’amar. Sparapet Vach’e got into a boat, crossed over to the island, and left neither male nor female alive:
8:23 Եւ այսպէս բարձաւ ազգատոհմ նախարարութեանն այնորիկ, եւ զտուն նոցա յարքունիս կալան:	8:23 Thus, was the azgatohm of that naxarardom eliminated, and their tun was seized for the crown:
8:24 Բայց յետ այսորիկ ոչ դադարէին Պարսք ի տալ պատերազմ ընդ Խոսրովու արքային. եւ նա դնէր օրէնս` զի մեծամեծ աւագանին, նախարարքն աշխարհակալքն աշխարհատեարքն` որ էին բիւրաւորքն եւ հազարաւորքն, կայցեն առ արքային, եւ ընդ նմա շրջեսցին, եւ մի՛ ոք երթիցէ ի նոցանէ ընդ զօրս արքունի:	8:24 However after this the Iranians did not stop warring with king Xosrov. He made a law that the grandee nobility, the naxarars, holders of lands and lords of lands, who were ten-thousanders and thousanders would have to stay near the king and circulate around with him, and that none of them should go with the royal troops:
8:25 Զի երկնչէր նա յերկմտութենէ նոցա, զի գուցէ զնոյն գործ Դատաբենայն գործիցեն, եւ ապստամբ լինիցին ի նմանէ:	8:25 For he feared their irresolution thinking that they might work the same act as Databe and revolt from him:
8:26 Բայց վստահ լինէր ի ծերունին Վաչէ, ի բուն սպարապետն ի զօրավարն Հայոց մեծաց, եւ ի քաջ Վահան յամատունի:	8:26 But he had confidence in the aged Vach’e, the natural sparapet and general of Greater Armenia and in brave Vahan Amatuni:
8:27 Գումարէր զզօրսն ամենայն տանցն աւագանւոյն ընդ զօրսն արքունի, եւ տայր զգումարտակն ամենայն ի ձեռս նոցա. եւ հանապազ կային ի քաջութեան ի մարտ պատերազմի ի սահմանս Պարսից. եւ ոչ տային անխտիր արշաւել աւերել զերկիրն Հայոց, եւ ոչ նայել:	8:27 Xosrov assembled the troops of all the tuns of the nobility together with the royal troops and entrusted the entire corps to them. And they constantly warred bravely on the borders of Iran not permitting the Iranians to boldly invade and ruin the country of Armenia, or even to glimpse it:
8:28 Եւ կայր արքայ ի հանգստի, եւ աշխարհ ի շինութեան եւ ի խաղաղութեան զամենայն աւուրս կենաց նոցա:	8:28 And the king remained in peace and the land was in cultivation and peace for all the days of their lives:
