48:0 Պատերազմ Իսմայելացւոց Պարսիկս: Մահ Յազկերտի: Բարձումն Սասանեան տէրութեանն: Հայք մտանեն ի ծառայութիւն Իսմայելացւոց առաջնորդութեամբ Թէոդորոսի Ռշտունւոյ: Գալ Կոստանդնի կայսեր ի Հայս. բազումք յիշխանացն Հայոց գան առ նա եւ ցուցանեն զմիաբանութիւն իւրեանց:	48:0 War of the Ismaelites against the Persians. Death of Yazkert. Extinction of Sasanian rule. The Armenians submit to the Ismaelites under the command of T’ēodoros Ṙshtuni. The emperor Constans comes to Armenia; many of the Armenian princes come to him and demonstrate their loyalty:
48:1 Եւ եղեւ ի քսաներորդի ամի Յազկերտի արքայի Պարսից, ի մետասան ամի Կոստասի կայսեր, որ կոչեցաւ յանուն հաւր իւրոյ Կոստանդին, եւ յամին [ԺԹ-երորդի] Իսմայելացւոց տէրութեանն, զաւրն Իսմայելացւոց, որ էին յերկրին Պարսից եւ Խուժաստանի՝ գնացին ընդ արեւելս ի կողմանս Պահլաւն կոչեցեալ երկրի, որ է երկիր Պարթեւաց, ի վերայ Յազկերտի արքային Պարսից:	48:1 In the twentieth year of Yazkert, king of Persia, in the eleventh year of the emperor Constans who was called after the name of his father Constantine, in the [19th] year of the dominion of the Ismaelites, the army of the Ismaelites which was in the land of Persia and of Khuzhastan marched eastwards to the region of the land called Pahlaw, which is the land of the Parthians, against Yazkert king of Persia:
48:2 Եւ փախեաւ Յազկերտ յերեսաց նոցա, եւ ոչ կարաց ճողոպրել. քանզի հասին զհետ նորա մերձ ի սահմանս Քուշանաց, եւ կոտորեցին զամենայն զաւրս նորա: Եւ փախուցեալ անկաւ ի զաւրս Թէտալաց, որ էին ի կողմանցն եկեալ նմա յաւգնականութիւն: Եւ իշխանն Մարաց, զորմէ վերագոյն ասացի, եթէ գնաց յարեւելս առ արքայն իւրեանց եւ ապստամբեալ ի տեղի մի ամրացաւ, եւ խնդրեաց երդումն յԻսմայելացւոցն, եւ գնաց յանապատն ի ծառայութիւն Իսմայելացւոցն:	48:2 Yazkert fled before them, but was unable to escape. For they caught up with him near the boundaries of the K’ushans and slew all his troops. He fled and sought refuge among the troops of the T’etalk’, who had come to his support from those regions. The prince of the Medes - of whom I said above that he had gone to the east to their king and, having rebelled, had fortified himself in some place - sought an oath from the Ismaelites and went into the desert in submission to the Ismaelites:
48:3 Իսկ զաւրացն Թէտալաց կալեալ զՅազկերտ սպանին, որ կալաւ զթագաւորութիւնն ամս [Ի]: Եւ բարձաւ տէրութիւնն Պարսից եւ ազգին Սասանայ, որ կալան զթագաւորութիւնն [ՇԽԲ] ամս:	48:3 Then the army of the T’etalk’ seized Yazkert and slew him; he had governed the kingdom for [20] years. So was extinguished the rule of the Persians and of the race of Sasan, which had held sway for [542] years:
48:4 Արդ՝ իբրեւ ետես արքայն Իսմայելի զյաջողումն յաղթութեանս, եւ զի բարձաւ թագաւորութիւնն Պարսից, իբրեւ լցան ամք [Գ] պայմանի խաղաղութեանն՝ ոչ կամեցաւ այլ աւելի առնել խաղաղութիւն ընդ թագաւորն Յունաց, այլ հրաման ետ զաւրաց իւրոց ունել գործ պատերազմի ընդ ծով եւ ընդ ցամաք, զի բարձցէ եւ զայն եւս թագաւորութիւն յերկրէ, յերկոտասաներորդ ամի թագաւորութեանն Կոստանդի:	48:4 Now when the king of Ismael saw the success of this victory and that the Persian kingdom had been destroyed, after three years of the peace treaty had fully passed he no longer wished to make peace with the king of the Greeks. But he commanded his troops to conduct war by sea and land in order to efface from the earth that kingdom as well, in the [12th] year of the reign of Constans:
48:5 Եւ ի նմին ամի ապստամբեցին Հայք եւ ի բաց կացին ի թագաւորութենէն Յունաց եւ հնազանդեցան ի ծառայութիւն արքային Իսմայելի, եդին ուխտ ընդ մահու, եւ ընդ դժոխոց դաշինս կռեցին Թէոդորոս Ռշտունեաց տէր ամենայն իշխանաւքն Հայոց, ի բաց ընկեցեալ զաստուածային դաշնաւորութիւնն:	48:5 In that same year the Armenians rebelled and removed themselves from (allegiance to) the Greek kingdom and submitted to the king of Ismael. T’ēodoros, lord of Ṙshtunik’, with all the Armenian princes made a pact with death and contracted an alliance with hell, abandoning the divine covenant:
48:6 Արդ՝ խաւսէր ընդ նոսա իշխանն Իսմայելի եւ ասէր. «Այս լիցի ուխտ հաշտութեան իմոյ ընդ իս եւ ընդ ձեզ՝ որչափ ամաց եւ դուք կամիջիք. եւ ոչ առնում ի ձէնջ սակ զերեամ մի. ապա յայնժամ տաջիք երդմամբ, որչափ եւ դուք կամիջիք: Եւ հեծեալ կալէք յաշխարհիդ [ԺԵ] հազար, եւ հաց յաշխարհէն տուք, եւ ես ի սակն արքունի անարգեմ. եւ զհեծեալսն յԱսորիս ոչ խնդրեմ. բայց այլ ուր եւ հրամայեմ՝ պատրաստ լիցին ի գործ. եւ ոչ արձակեմ ի բերդորայն ամիրայս, եւ ոչ տաճիկ սպայ՝ ի բազմաց մինչեւ ցմի հեծեալ:	48:6 Now the prince of Ismael spoke with them and note: ’Let this be the pact of my treaty between me and you for as many years as you may wish. I shall not take tribute from you for a three-year period. Then you will pay (tribute) with an oath, as much as you may wish. You will keep in your country [15,000] cavalry, and provide sustenance from your country; and I shall reckon it in the royal tax. I shall not request the cavalry for Syria; but wherever else I command they shall be ready for duty. I shall not send amirs to (your) fortresses, nor an Arab army - neither many, nor even down to a single cavalryman:
48:7 Թշնամի մի մտցէ ի Հայս. եւ եթէ գայ Հոռոմ ի վերայ ձեր՝ արձակեմ ձեզ զաւրս յաւգնականութիւն՝ որչափ եւ դուք կամիջիք: Եւ երդնում ի մեծն Աստուած՝ եթէ ոչ ստեմ:» Եւ այնպէս քակեալ պատառեաց զնոսա ի Հոռոմոց նեռին արբանեակն, զի թէպէտ եւ բազում աղաչանս եւ պաղատանս գրեաց առ նոսա կայսրն եւ կոչեաց զնոսա առ ինքն, եւ ոչ կամեցան լսել նմա:	48:7 An enemy shall not enter Armenia; and if the Romans attack you I shall send you troops in support, as many as you may wish. I swear by the great God that I shall not be false. ’ In this manner the servant of Anti-Christ split them away from the Romans. For although the emperor wrote many intercessions and supplications to them and summoned them to himself, they did not wish to heed him:
48:8 Ապա ասէ. «Ես գամ ի Կարնոյ քաղաք, եւ եկայք դուք առ իս»: Եւ կամ՝ «Ես գամ առ ձեզ, եւ տամ ձեզ աւգնութիւն [ՀՌ] ոգի, եւ խորհիմք ի միասին, եթէ զինչ արժան իցէ առնել». սակայն եւ այնպէս ոչ կամեցան լսել նմա:	48:8 Then he note: ’I am coming to the city of Karin. Do you come to me. ’ Or: ’I am coming to you, and I shall give you a subsidy as assistance; and we shall decide together what is best to do. ’ Yet even so they did not wish to heed him:
48:9 Եւ ամբաստանութիւն ամենայն զաւրացն Հոռոմին եւ տրտունջ զՌշտունեաց տեառնէն լինէին եւ զՀայոց՝ առաջի թագաւորին իւրեանց վասն հարուածոց՝ որ եղեն ի Մարդոցէսն: Զի ասացին, թէ «Միաբանեցան ընդ Իսմայելացիսն. զմեզ վստահացուցին եւ զզաւրսն ճապաղել ետուն յասպատակ յԱտրպատական, եւ զնոսա ածին ի վերայ մեր յանկարծակի, եւ հարկանել ետուն զմեզ. եւ մեր ամենայն ինչ անդ անկաւ. բայց թող երթամք ի Հայս եւ մեր իրացն խնդիր առնեմք:	48:9 The complaint and murmuring of all the Roman troops concerning the lord of Ṙshtunik’ and the Armenians reached the king with regard to the defeats which had occurred in Mardots’ek’. They note: ’They have united with the Ismaelites. They reassured us, but had their troops dispersed in an invasion into Atrpatakan. Then they brought them upon us unexpectedly and caused them to defeat us. Everything we had was there lost. But let us go to Armenia and investigate our affairs. ’:
48:10 Յայնժամ արքայ Կոստանդին հաւանեցաւ առնել զկամս զաւրացն: Եւ առ զզաւրս իւր եւ գնաց ի Հայս [Ճ] հազարաւ: Եւ իբրեւ եհաս ի Դերջան ընդ առաջ եղեն նմա արք իսմայելացիք եւ մատուցին նմա թուղթ յիշխանէն իւրեանց, որ էր գրեալ այսպէս, թէ «Հայք իմ են, անդ մի երթար. ապա թէ երթաս՝ ես գամ ի վերայ քոյ, եւ առնեմ զքեզ որ անդրէն փախչել ոչ կարես:	48:10 Then king Constans agreed to carry out the army’s wishes. He took his army and went to Armenia with [100,000] (troops). When he reached Derjan, some Ismaelite men met him and presented to him a letter from their prince, which was written in the following terms: ’Armenia is mine; do not go there. But if you do go, I shall attack you, and I shall ensure that you will be unable to flee from there. ’:
48:11 Իսկ արքայ Կոստանդին ասէ. «Աշխարհն իմ է՝ ես երթամ. դու եթէ գաս ի վերայ իմ՝ Աստուած արդարութեան դատաւոր է»: Եւ անտի գնացեալ եկն ի Կարնոյ քաղաք. յամի [ԺԲ-երորդի] թագաւորութեան իւրում, ի քսան ամի Իսմայելացւոց տէրութեանն:	48:11 King Constans responded: ’That land is mine, and I am going there. If you attack me, God is a righteous judge. ’ He left there and came to the city of Karin in the [12th] year of his reign and the [20th] year of the rule of the Ismaelites:
48:12 Եւ նստաւ արքայ Կոստանդին ի Կարնոյ քաղաքի աւուրս ինչ. անդ ընդ առաջ եղեն նմա իշխանք եւ զաւրք Չորրորդն կոչեցեալ Հայոց, եւ այլ ամենայն զաւրք եւ իշխանք, որ յայնմ կողմանէ գնացեալ էին յՌշտունականէն: Ընդ առաջ ելին նմա Սպերացիքն, իշխանքն Բագրատունեաց, եւ Մանաղայքն, եւ Դարանաղայքն, եւ ոյք յԵկեղեաց գաւառէ, եւ ամենայն զաւրք տեղեացն այնոցիկ, եւ Կարնացիք, եւ Տայեցիք, եւ Բասենացիք:	48:12 King Constans remained in the city of Karin for a few days. The princes and troops of the so-called Fourth Armenia presented themselves, and also all the other troops and princes who had left the Ṙshtuni territory. There met him the men of Sper, the princes of the Bagratunik’, the men of Mananali, of Daranali, those from the province of Ekełeats’, and all the troops of those places, and the men of Karin, and Tayk’, and Basean:
48:13 Եւ անդ ընդ առաջ եղեն նմա իշխանք Վանանդայ հանդերձ զաւրուն իւրեանց, եւ Շիրակացիք, եւ Խորխոռունին, եւ արք տանն Դիմաքսենից: Անդ ընդ առաջ եղեւ նմա Մուշեղ Մամիկոնեան համազգեաւքն իւրովք հանդերձ եւ այլովք ոմամբք իշխանաւք, եւ զաւր ըստ Այրարատայ կողմանէ. Առաւեղեանք, եւ Առանեանք եւ Վարաժնունիքն, եւ Գնթունիք, եւ Սպանդունիք, եւ այլք ընդ նոսին:	48:13 There also came to meet him the princes of Vanand with their army, the men of Shirak, the Khorkhoṙunik’, and the men of the house of the Dimak’seank’. Also presenting themselves were Musheł Mamikonean with his clansmen and certain other princes, and the army from the region of Ayrarat; the Aṙaweleank’ the Aṙaneank’, the Varazhnunik’, the Gnt’unik’, the Spandunik’, and others with them:
48:14 Ընդ առաջ եղեւ նմա կաթուղիկոսն Ներսէս, եկեալ ի Տայոց: Եւ պատմեցին ամենայն իշխանքն թագաւորին եւ զմիտս եւ զկամս ապստամբութեան Ռշտունեաց տեառն, եւ փութանակի երթեւեկս առ նա դեսպանացն Իսմայելի: Յայնժամ նզովեաց թագաւորն եւ ամենայն զաւրք իւր զՌշտունեաց տէրն, եւ լուծին զնա ի պատուոյ իշխանութեանն, եւ արձակեցին այլ այր փոխանակ նորա, եւ [Խ] այր ընդ նմա:	48:14 The Catholicos Nersēs, who had come from Tayk’, also met him. All the princes explained to the king the intention and plan for rebellion of the lord of Ṙshtunik’, and the frequent coming and going to him of the messengers of Ismael. Then the king and all his army cursed the lord of Ṙshtunik’, deprived him of the title of his authority, and sent another person to replace him, accompanied by [40] men:
48:15 Որ իբրեւ չոգան հասին առ նա՝ կալան զնոսա եւ կապեցին, եւ ետուն տանել ի բերդն Բաղիշոյ, եւ զոմանս ի կղզիս Բզնունեաց. եւ ինքն չոգաւ եմուտ յԱղթամար կղզի. եւ զաւրացն կողմանցն այնոցիկ ետ հրաման երթալ ամրանալ յիւրաքանչիւր գաւառի:	48:15 But when they reached him, he arrested and bound them, and had (some) taken to the fortress of Bałēsh and others to the islands of Bznunik’. He himself went to the island of Ałt’amar: and he commanded the troops of those regions to fortify themselves in each one’s province:
48:16 Եւ էին ընդ նմա միաբան Վրացին եւ Աղուանն եւ Սիւնին, որք ըստ հրամանի նորա գնացին յիւրաքանչիւր աշխարհս եւ ամրացան ի նմին: Իսկ Թէոդորոս Վահեւունեաց տէրն կալաւ զբերդն Արփայս. եւ Գրիգոր որդի նորա որ էր փեսայ Ռշտունեաց տեառնն. եւ Վարազ Ներսէհն Դաշտկարին ամրացան ի բացւոջն, եւ բռնացան ի վերայ գանձուցն. զի անդ էին ամենայն գանձքն աշխարհին, եկեղեցւոյ եւ իշխանաց եւ վաճառականաց:	48:16 There were with him as allies the Iberians, Ałuank’, and Siwnik’, who in accordance with his order went to their respective countries and fortified themselves there. But T’ēodoros, lord of Vahewunik’, took control of the fortress of Arp’ayk’. His son Grigor, who was son-in-law of the lord of the Ṙshtunik’, and Varaz Nersēh of Dashtkar, took up positions outside. And they seized the treasures, for all the treasures of the land were there - of the church, of the princes, and of the merchants:
48:17 Իսկ արքայ Կոստանդին իբրեւ զայն լուաւ՝ կամեցաւ առնուլ աւար զզաւրացն բազմութեան, եւ երթալ ձմերել ի Հայս, զի բարձցէ զերկիրն ի միջոյ: Եւ անդէն անկան ի վերայ երեսաց իւրեանց կաթուղիկոսն եւ Մուշեղ ամենայն իշխանաւքն Հայոց, եւ մեծաւ աղաչանաւք եւ արտասուալից պաղատանաւք խնդրեցին ողորմութիւն, զի մի ըստ նոցա յանցանացն իսպառ բարկասցի եւ զերկիրն կորուսցէ:	48:17 King Constans, when he heard this, desired the multitude of his army to engage in plunder and go to winter in Armenia, so that he might destroy the country. Then the Catholicos and Musheł with all the Armenian princes fell on their faces, and with great supplications and tearful entreaties requested mercy, lest on account of their trespasses he be totally angered and ruin the country:
48:18 Լուաւ արքայ պաղատանաց նոցա եւ արձակեաց անդրէն զզաւրացն բազմութիւնն. եւ ինքն գնաց յԱյրարատ [Ի] հազարաւ: Եւ երթեալ ի Դուին՝ նստաւ ի տան կաթուղիկոսին: Եւ արար արքայ զՄուշեղ Մամիկոնէից տէր՝ իշխան Հայոց հեծելոցն, եւ արձակեաց զնա ի կողմն Սեպհական գնդին [Գ] հազարաւք. նոյնպէս արձակեաց ի զաւրաց իւրոց ի Վիրս եւ յԱղուանս եւ ի Սիւնիս՝ քակտել զնոսա ի միաբանութենէ:	48:18 The king heeded their entreaties and sent away the larger part of his army. He himself went to Ayrarat with [20,000] men. Coming to Dvin, he stayed in the residence of the Catholicos. The king appointed Musheł, lord of the Mamikoneank’, prince of the Armenian cavalry, and sent him to the region of Sephakan Gund with [3,000] men. He likewise sent some of his troops to Iberia, Ałuank’, and Siwnik’ to separate them from union with T’ēodoros:
48:19 Այլ զաւրքն նստէին շուրջ զԱրփայիւ ի լեռնակողմանն եւ ի դաշտակողմանն: Վիրք թէպէտ առ ժամանակ մի ոչ կամեցան հնազանդել, սակայն յետոյ նուաճեալ ի ծառայութիւն: Բայց Աղուանն եւ Սիւնին եւ գունդն Սեպհական ոչ հնազանդեցան, զորոց զերկիրն աւար առեալ տարան զինչ եւ գտին, եւ դարձան անդրէն առ արքայ:	48:19 Another army besieged Arp’ayk’ from both the mountain side and the plain. Although the Iberians for a while did not wish to submit, yet later they capitulated; but Ałuank’ and Siwnik’ and Sephakan Gund did not submit. They pillaged their lands, took away whatever they found, and returned to the king:
